2018 PRIMARY ELECTION ENDORSEMENTS CALIFORNIA The rapid changes to the utility industry have unleashed new forces that threaten our members’ jobs like never before. As a result, IBEW 1245 is focused on finding political leaders who support out priorities, and are committed to protecting our work, jobs and wages. We understand that there are many other issues that matter to Local 1245 members, but the union’s endorsement criteria focuses exclusively on where each candidate stands on the issues that impact your livelihood. ___________________________ Governor IBEW 1245 is proud to endorse Gavin Newsom (D), based on his extensive track record of supporting IBEW 1245 and its members. In 2001, as a San Francisco County Supervisor, Newsom was the only elected leader to stand with 1245 workers and oppose the takeover of PG&E’s electric system by the City of San Francisco, playing a pivotal role in the defeat of that initiative. In 2016, as Lt. Governor and one of the three members of the State Lands Commission, Newsom helped stave off a precipitous shutdown of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, and used his leverage to ensure that the hundreds Local 1245 members employed at the plant are taken care of.
