This group of movies includes independent feature-length films, documentaries, short and experimental films and videos. They closely engage with the unique conditions of Malaysia’s economic development, ethnic relationships, and cultural practices, which together comprise significant understandings of the nationhood of Malaysia. How can this palm be viewed as a “miracle plant” by both the agro-food industry in the North and farmers in the tropical zone, but a serious ecological threat by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) campaigning for the environment or the rights of indigenous peoples? The time has come to move on from this biased and often irrational debate, which is rooted in topical issues of contemporary society in the North, such as junk food, biodiversity, energy policy and ethical consumption. Muhammad Moniruzzaman, Bawadi B Abdullah, Sekhar Bhattacharjee† Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Chemical Engineering Department Bandar Seri Iskandar, 32610, Perak, Malaysia Abstract This study reports that ionic liquid mediated Elaeis. guineensis (oil palm) leaves extract can be used for reduction of gold precursor to obtain stable gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). E. guineensis leaf extract was prepared by using a mixture of distilled water and 2% aq. ionic liquid (1- Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride) as solvents. UV-vis spectra of reaction medium showed surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peak (λmax) at 539-557 nm confirm formation of gold nanoparticles. λmax was blue shifted toward 539 nm with increase in volume extract up to 0.60 ml while further addition of extract in the reaction medium resulted in red shifting of SPR band. Emim chloride functioned as a capping agent and results in synthesis of small size gold nanoparticles. TEM image analysis confirmed that average particles size of gold nanoparticles was 20.09±12.36 nm synthesized with an aqueous solution containing 2% Emim chloride as compared to average particle size of 39.60±13.63 nm when only distilled water was used as solvent for extraction of oil palm leaves. FTIR spectra analysis of the extracts identified presence of phenolic, carboxylic and amide groups that play important roles in reduction of gold precursor. © 2016 The Authors. -

The Halal concept has also grown not only as a multi-billion dollar industry, it has evolved in sophistication and application of lifestyle choice. The fact of Halal as being what's permissible in Islamic law has now grown to become what many would describe as a clean and ethical lifestyle choice, among Muslims and those of other religions. Halal practices have proven worthy of choice and gained consumer attraction the world over. However, it's not merely about building markets and selling products, it's about steering the industry in a sustainable trajectory where reach is far more than what we anticipated a decade ago. -

Received: 6 April 2020; Accepted: 10 May 2020; Published: 14 May 2020 Abstract: The consumers’ opinion concerning conventional palm (Elaeis guineensis) oil is negatively affected by environmental and nutritional issues. However, oils extracted from drupes of interspecific hybrids Elaeis oleifera E. guineensis are getting more and more interest, due to their chemical and × nutritional properties. Unsaturated fatty acids (oleic and linoleic) are the most abundant constituents (60%–80% of total fatty acids) of hybrid palm oil (HPO) and are mainly acylated in position sn-2 of the glycerol backbone. Carotenes and tocotrienols are the most interesting components of the unsaponifiable matter, even if their amount in crude oils varies greatly. The Codex Committee on Fats and Oils recently provided HPO the “dignity” of codified fat substance for human consumption and defined the physical and chemical parameters for genuine crude oils. However, only few researches have been conducted to date on the functional and technological properties of HPO, thus limiting its utilization in food industry. Recent studies on the nutritional effects of HPO softened the initial enthusiasm about the “tropical equivalent of olive oil”, suggesting that the overconsumption of HPO in the most-consumed processed foods should be carefully monitored. -
Carey Island Mega Project Will Take Us Higher
Carey Island mega project will take us higher KUALA LUMPUR: The mega port industrial city project at Carey Island will ease the congestion and bottleneck at Port Klang, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai. He said the port city project, which is still in the planning stages, was a vital part of the Government’s effort to further boost the country’s position as the top hub in the region. “We will have a port city there, not just a port. It will give a boost to Carey Island, and this is our long-term plan,” he told the media at the launch of Pikom’s 9th Leadership Summit 2017, yesterday. The Carey Island Port is a massive port-industrial city project with infrastructure investments of more than RM200bil covering an area of over 100sq km – more than twice the size of Putrajaya. It was announced in January. Liow said the Government must start now or risk being left behind by other ports in the region. “We cannot be satisfied with the current 30 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of container cargo. Carey Island will carry an additional capacity of 30 million TEUs. “At the moment, both Northport and Westport can only handle 30 million TEUs so we need to implement the project as soon as possible,” he said. Liow, who is also the National Logistics Task Force chairman, said the development of Carey Island will cover more than 5,000 acres (2,000ha) off Port Klang, aimed at managing the traffic shipment across Asia. “We are hoping to draw cargo shipments from southern Thailand, and Sumatra in Indonesia to strengthen Port Klang’s position as the biggest hub in the region,” he said. -

PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release Monday, 3 April 2017 MMC partners Adani Ports for Carey Island Port Project, Sime Darby for Maritime City _________________________________________________________ Ahmedabad, India/Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 3 April 2017 - MMC Port Holdings Sdn Bhd (MMC Ports), Sime Darby Property Berhad and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to study the feasibility of developing an integrated maritime city on Carey Island, Selangor, Malaysia. The maritime city is to support the proposed development of a new port on a greenfield site on Carey Island, which is located about 50km southwest of Kuala Lumpur. Simultaneously, MMC Ports and Adani Ports have signed a separate MOU to explore the feasibility of the Carey Island Port Project as an extension of Port Klang, currently the 11th busiest container port in the world. MMC Ports, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC), Malaysia’s leading utilities and infrastructure group, and APSEZ will collaborate with Sime Darby Property, the property arm of Sime Darby Berhad, one of South East Asia's largest conglomerates, to study the feasibility of developing an integrated maritime city which will support the new port. “Malaysia is very strategic to APSEZ global strategy and with straits of Malacca being a global shipping route it helps us to drive our global transhipment strategy further. With Vizhinjam port on one side Carey Island port on the other we will be able to give transhipment solutions to global shipping lines.
