JOSEPH FIORE: PAINTINGS AND WORKS ON PAPER

April 19 – May 24, 2013

Meredith Ward Fine Art presents Joseph Fiore: Paintings and Works on Paper, the first major solo exhibition since the artist’s death in 2008. It is also the inaugural exhibition marking Meredith Ward Fine Art’s representation of the Joseph Fiore estate. Fiore’s paintings works on paper are extraordinary—innovative, distinctive, penetrating, confident, and full of surprises. Fiore moves freely between representational and symbolic imagery, defying the usual categories. His skill is particularly evident in paintings like the monumental Wetlands, 1979, a gorgeous, lush view of the Maine coast in which we see echoes of his symbolic works in the delineation of rocks, grass, sea, and sky. It is a privilege to exhibit this overview of Fiore’s work, and to re-introduce him to his New York audience. The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue with an essay by Rackstraw Downes.
