Profile: After basic training in clinical infectious diseases, Kåre Mølbak held research positions in connection with the Bandim health research project in Guinea Bissau and at several departments at Statens Serum Institut. Additional international collaboration include work in Liberia, Vietnam, India, and Ghana. At the present position, he works as the head of the Division of Infectious Diseases Preparedness in Denmark which includes public health reference laboratories as well as surveillance and control activities. Particular areas of interest are control of , as well as the emerging problems of zoonotic infections and antibiotic resistant bacteria transferred from food animals to humans. He has also an interest in epidemiological methods and longitudinal studies of infectious diseases.

Mølbak has published 318 papers in peer-reviewed journals, primarily on the epidemiology of communicable diseases (H-factor 52). Mølbak has been the speaker at a number of international conferences, the organizer of international workshops, the coordinator of large WHO and EU funded research programmes, including DG-RESEARCH funded projects, and is a member of the advisory forum of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, ECDC.

Kåre Mølbak has extensive graduate and post-graduate teaching experience and been main supervisor and evaluator of many Ph.D. students. In 2017 he was called as Professor in Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the University of Copenhagen, along with this main task as Vice-President at Statens Serum Institut.
