We are a small and friendly Preschool who blend the Montessori principles with the outdoor learning ethos. We were awarded Outstanding by Ofsted in 2018 in every area. This is a real achievement and we are really proud of the staff who work tirelessly to provide a stimulating and caring environment for the children of Badgers Bridge. The inspector was particularly impressed with our Forest School. “Children enjoy limitless opportunities to explore, investigate and work together in the natural woodland environment. Staff skilfully inspire children to develop a significant understanding of the world in which they live”. “...... exemplary relationships between staff provide excellent role models for children and promote high standards of behaviour. Our summer production of Summer Holiday is coming along well. We are very pleased to be starting the 2019 Lyminge Festival off with our production. It is being performed on Friday 14th June and Saturday 15th June at 7.30pm at the Lyminge Village Hall. Tickets are £8 and are for unreserved seats; they will be available from Laing Bennett, in Lyminge, from the middle of May. The seating will be at tables on the Friday night and theatre style on the Saturday. There will be a bar, teas and a raffle on both nights. Come along for a sun, sand, fun filled evening celebrating summer holidays past and present. For some time I’ve wanted to write about scams and the work being done to combat them. Scams can happen to anyone; I personally know three residents in Lyminge parish who have been taken in by scammers. All three were intelligent people and in two cases money was lost. Scammers are professional crooks with plausible stories. They can be people who knock on your door, send letters, email or phone you. People who are on their own can be particularly vulnerable as these criminals are adept at making friends. People are often ashamed to admit they have been taken in and some refuse to believe the scammers are not their friends. What can be done? First of all, use your common sense. Does it sound too good to be true? Have you really won a contest you haven’t entered? Would someone you know contact you for urgent assistance because they’ve been mugged on holiday abroad? (The British Consulate will always arrange repatriation of UK nationals in trouble overseas). Be wary if people want things from you urgently. Ask a trusted family member or friend for their view. KCC Community Warden Gary Harrison is very experienced in this area and is always happy to help. He can be contacted on 07977 982185 or by email at [email protected] I too am happy to help. There’s plenty of information about scams and how to deal with them on www.kent.gov.uk (search for scams). You can take a free 20 minute online learning course and become a Friend Against Scams. You can also become a Scam Marshal forwarding scam mail you receive to the National Trading Standard (NTS) Scams Team so it can be investigated. Anyone concerned that someone they know may be falling victim to scammers can report their concerns online via KCC Trading Standards or ring Citizens Advice consumer helpline: 03454 04 05 06 Let’s remember that most people are honest, helpful and kind and that’s particularly true in our area. Please look out for your neighbours and don’t let people become vulnerable through loneliness. Do not lose your inner peace for Barn Dance anything whatsoever, even if your whole world Lyminge Village Hall seems upset.” ― Saint Francis de Sales Saturday 22nd June £15 pp including ploughman’s supper or £40 per family of four Doors open 6.30pm, food from 7pm

Rhodes Minnis Circle Our speaker in March was Matt Crittenden who told us about the work of the RNLI. Matt is station manager at the lifeboat station at Littlestone, the next stations along the coast being Dover and . On call 24 hours a day the crew are all volunteers. There is no government funding and we were shown the waterproof equipment worn by the crews which is very expensive to buy. Matt's talk was light-hearted and very amusing at times, but we were reminded of the seriousness of the rescues in the cold channel waters and the tragedies that can happen. The competition was won by Margaret Chambers, with Pat Kent 2nd, Connie Burren 3rd and Jacqui Storey 4th. Our AGM is on the 22nd May followed by afternoon tea We meet at Rhodes Minnis Village Hall at 2.30pm and visitors are very welcome (1st visit free!) For further details please contact 862913.

They will be performing a revival of their inspiring ‘Ikarus Inc’, a play about hopes and dreams. You won’t want to miss it! Set in the little town of Dreamville, Indiana, in the ‘50’s, a travelling salesman, Daedalus H. Gildersleeves, and his son Ikarus, sell dreams from a suitcase. Secret hopes are laid bare as they begin to fly the townsfolk up into the clear blue skies to their dreams. Hilarious, romantic, tender, searching – and laced with rock’n’roll! Meanwhile the ladies of the local Buffalos Club – the Buffalesses – enter a competition to make the biggest pumpkin pie ever to raise money for ‘the sufferin’ poor’. For Ol’ Mercy Coffin it is just the devil tempting them. But will they fly and achieve their dreams or come crashing down to the cold hard earth? Will the pumpkin pie get baked? Will they win the competition? Tickets are £17 + concessions - available from: Mike Chisnall 01303 862743, online www.therudemechanicaltheatre.co.uk or Laing Bennett. We are delighted to be able to confirm that the National Lottery Heritage Fund has awarded our project the maximum grant available under the Our Heritage programme of £100,000. This is a huge vote of confidence in the project and the community benefits that we are aiming to deliver. The grant won’t be released until we have secured a given level of match funding, so we still have a little way to go in order to get approval to start the project. We are still actively approaching grant-giving bodies, and will be grateful for any donations to the project. If you would like to give, please visit the home page on our blog. Don’t forget that if you are a UK taxpayer, you can enhance the value of your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you. If you don’t have a PayPal account, our Crowd Funding page provides other options for giving. In order to prepare for starting the project once we get the go-ahead, we are holding a public meeting in the Parish Church at 3pm on Sunday 12 May. Everyone is welcome. This is your chance to hear what we have done so far, and to share ideas. We want to hear what you think, and to start putting together plans for a programme of activities over the next year and a half. The re-enactor group Øst Centingas will be returning to Lyminge over the weekend of 29-30 June. Everyone is invited to visit the encampment, to meet the re-enactors, and to get a sense of what it was like to live in Anglo-Saxon Lyminge. Spread the word and put the dates in your diary. More details will follow later. We are hoping to be able to confirm soon that the dig in the churchyard will be starting on Monday 8 July. We will be announcing more details in later Lyminge Newsletters, and there will be an update at the Annual Parish Meeting, on 21 May at 7.30pm in the Tayne Centre. If you want to keep up to date with the project in real time, then follow us on our blog at https://geopaethas.com. If you have any questions about the project, please contact Liz Coleman, Administrator at [email protected] or 863197 or Rob Baldwin Project Manager at [email protected].

POETRY PLEASES !

On 22nd March, the “Lyminge Laureates“, who are a group of local people (most of them included in the photo above) and who enjoy poetry, launched their second anthology of new writings titled "The Second Anthology". The group meets on the last Tuesday in the month at 10.15am in the library and has been meeting regularly once a month for the last two years - one of the many pleasant things that happen in Lyminge Library. Members not only write their own poems, but also share those of established published authors. The Second Anthology is for sale priced at £3 and can be obtained along with any other details needed about the group from Jane Buss ([email protected]).
