She has eschewed genre for originality, celebrity for longevity, and musicals trends for musical truths. She has lived through the boom and bust of the industry and emerged just as she entered - unequivocally herself. Fans have come to expect the unexpected from Meshell, and faithfully followed her on sojourns into soul, spoken word, R&B, jazz, hip-hop, rock, all bound by a lyrical, spiritual search for love, justice, respect, resolution, and happiness. Groove driven, infectiously melodic and lyrically meditative, Meshell’s latest album, Comet, Come To Me, finds her returning to the same well of creativity that launched her career. -
PT 2702 Jakob Bro UMA ELMO
ECM Jakob Bro Uma Elmo Jakob Bro: guitar Arve Henriksen: trumpet, piccolo trumpet Jorge Rossy: drums ECM 2702 CD: 6024 3528227 5 Release date: February 12, 2021 With Uma Elmo, his fifth album as a leader for ECM, Danish guitarist-composer Jakob Bro presents a new trio featuring Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen and Spanish drummer Jorge Rossy. Astonishingly, given the trio’s musical synergy, the first time these three musicians ever performed together was for the album’s sessions at the Swiss Radio studio in Lugano, with Manfred Eicher producing. Among the album’s highlights is the opening “Reconstructing a Dream”, a darkly lyrical reverie which underlines an observation about Bro’s work by London Jazz News: “there is no hurry to this music, but there is great depth.” “To Stanko” is Bro’s hushed tribute to the late, great Polish trumpeter who featured the guitarist in his quintet for the ECM album Dark Eyes. Another track that serves as an homage to a late elder is “Music for Black Pigeons,” which was given its evocative title by saxophone sage Lee Konitz, with whom Bro also worked closely. Listeners will recognize Arve Henriksen’s whispering, intimate sound from his 2008 ECM album Cartography, as well as from his collaborations for the label with Trio Mediaeval and Tigran Hamasyan. Rossy is well known to jazz fans on both sides of the Atlantic, particularly for his decade-plus tenure in Brad Mehldau’s career-making first trio. As for the leader, DownBeat aptly noted in its review of his previous ECM album, Bay of Rainbows, that “Bro’s guitar is luminous… his music both hypnotic and dramatic.” Bro created the title of Uma Elmo using the middle names of his young daughter and infant son, with the guitarist having composed much of the album’s dulcet material between his newborn son’s naps. -

Jazz Meets World 2017 - Jarní Koncerty
Jazz Meets World 2017 - jarní koncerty IDAN RAICHEL - PIANO SONGS (Izrael) Idan Raichel - klavír, klávesy, perkuse, zpěv 08.03.2017 od 19.30 Divadlo u hasičů, Římská 45, Praha 2 Jedna z největších ikon izrealské hudební scény opět v Praze. Na těchto koncertech uslyšíme písně jeho celé kariéry včetně skladeb z posledního alba At The Edge Of The Beginning. Ware • Kadima Collective • Event Calendar NEW YORK Despite the burgeoning reputations of other cities, New York still remains the jazz capital of the world, if only for sheer volume. A night in NYC is a month, if not more, anywhere else - an astonishing amount of music packed in its 305 square miles (Manhattan only 34 of those!). This is normal for the city but this month, there’s even more, seams bursting with amazing concerts. New York@Night Summer is traditionally festival season but never in recent memory have 4 there been so many happening all at once. We welcome back impresario George Interview: Mark Feldman Wein (Megaphone) and his annual celebration after a year’s absence, now (and by Sean Fitzell hopefully for a long time to come) sponsored by CareFusion and featuring the 6 70th Birthday Celebration of Herbie Hancock (On The Cover).
