First we should start with how they found it, and the crazy events that occurred when they tried to remove it. Underneath the Masjid al-Haram mosque, the holiest place in Islam, they found what looked like the legendary weapon, that is known as the Ark of Gabriel. When they tried to remove it, in September ofthere was a huge lightning, or plasma emission, that reportedly injured Mystery in Antarctica. There Mystery in Antarctica a second attempt to remove the Ark 13 days later, which resulted in a much larger plasma emission, this time killing between to people, depending on the news source. -

Es handelt sich hierbei um ein Kollisionsorogen, das nach heutigen Erkenntnissen der panafrikanischen Orogenese zugeordnet wird. Hinweise darauf finden sich im nördlichen Bereich (z.B. Haskard Highlands) der Shackleton Range. Hier treten granatführende, ultramafische Gesteine als Linsen, eingeschlossen in hochgradig metamorphen Gneisen auf. Die Linsen setzen sich hauptsächlich aus granat- und/oder spinell-führenden Pyroxeniten und untergeordnet auch Peridotiten zusammen. Die nähere Umgebung der Linsen wird vor allem durch Amphibolite dominiert. Die Pyroxenite enthalten teilweise eine Verwachsung von Granat und Olivin und sind damit ein eindeutiger Indikator für eine eklogitfazielle Metamorphose in diesem Bereich. Weiterhin zeugen sie als ultramafische Gesteine von einer möglichen Suturzone. In dieser Forschungsarbeit konnte mittels Mikrosondenanalytik an Granat, Ortho- und Klinopyroxen, Spinell, Olivin und Amphibol für die ultramafischen Gesteine ein Teil des im Uhrzeigersinn verlaufenden P-T-Pfads rekonstruiert werden. Thermobarometrische Berechnungen ergaben maximale Metamorphosetemperaturen von 800 bis 850 °C. Die maximal erreichten Drücke dürften zwischen 20 bis 23 kbar gelegen haben. -

Keighren 12 September 2003 Declaration of originality I hereby declare that this dissertation has been composed by me and is based on my own work. 12 September 2003 ii Abstract 2002–2004 marks the centenary of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition. Led by the Scots naturalist and oceanographer William Speirs Bruce (1867–1921), the Expedition, a two-year exploration of the Weddell Sea, was an exercise in scientific accumulation, rather than territorial acquisition. Distinct in its focus from that of other expeditions undertaken during the ‘Heroic Age’ of polar exploration, the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition, and Bruce in particular, were subject to a distinct press interpretation. From an examination of contemporary newspaper reports, this thesis traces the popular reception of Bruce—revealing how geographies of reporting and of reading engendered locally particular understandings of him. Inspired, too, by recent work in the history of science outlining the constitutive significance of place, this study considers the influence of certain important spaces—venues of collection, analysis, and display—on the conception, communication, and reception of Bruce’s polar knowledge.
