Now Power Girl is currently getting pulverized by him in his cyborg form. Power Girl calls Nick and asks for help and poses as Kara. Randall learned how money may change the bal. It was published on August 18, Power Girl engages Randall Mikavic. Randall learned how money may change the balance of power, and eventually became an arms trafficker. But now his mind has been copied by Crash, Power Girl: Bomb Squad android powerful enough to hold his own against Power Girl, who is trying to stop Power Girl: Bomb Squad from destroying New York City. Power Girl decides to try another tactic. As she flies back to the place where Randall first appeared and finds a suspicious capsule which looks like military property, she calls Nicco Cho with the communicator earrings he designed for her, and posing as her alter-ego Karen Starr, she claims Power Girl is in trouble and reached out to her Power Girl: Bomb Squad some intel. When Nicco balks, she threatens to leak his hacker past. Cho reluctantly agrees, and Power Girl delivers the capsule to her office at Power Girl: Bomb Squad Industries. As Power Girl and Crash continue their battle on the waterfront, Cho hacks into a military database and discovers that Crash is an intellingent, human-looking bomb that is only active for a four hour period; all Power Girl has to do is keep him occupied and he will eventually shut down. Power Girl battles Crash until he powers down. She is preparing to deliver him to S. Labs when all of sudden a portal opens up and she is incapacitated by Kryptonite. A man steps through the portal, powers Crash back up and tells they should leave now he gets what he wanted from Power Girl, since Crash's cellular make-up has completed its replication. He reminds Crash he is his boss Max before both Max and Crash step through the portal and disappear. Murdough A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS August 2006 Committee: Angela Nelson, Advisor Marilyn Motz Jeremy Wallach ii ABSTRACT Angela Nelson, Advisor In 1985-86, DC Comics launched an extensive campaign to revamp and revise its most important superhero characters for a new era. In many cases, this involved streamlining, retouching, or completely overhauling the characters’ fictional back-stories, while similarly renovating the shared fictional context in which their adventures take place, “the DC Universe.” To accomplish this act of revisionist history, DC resorted to a text-based performative gesture, Crisis on Infinite Earths. This thesis analyzes the impact of this singular text and the phenomena it inspired on the comic-book industry and the DC Comics fan community. The first chapter explains the nature and importance of the convention of “continuity” (i.e., intertextual diegetic storytelling, unfolding progressively over time) in superhero comics, identifying superhero fans’ attachment to continuity as a source of reading pleasure and cultural expressivity as the key factor informing the creation of the Crisis on Infinite Earths text. The second chapter consists of an eschatological reading of the text itself, in which it is argued that Crisis on Infinite Earths combines self-reflexive metafiction with the ideologically inflected symbolic language of apocalypse myth to provide DC Comics fans with a textual "rite of transition," to win their acceptance for DC’s mid-1980s project of self- rehistoricization and renewal.
