Highlights on 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015)

MUNICIPALITY OF PATNONGON

 The population of the Municipality of Patnongon, Antique as of August 1, 2015 was 37,176 based on the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015).

 The 2015 population is higher by 2,074 compared with the population of 35,102 in 2010, and higher by 3,482 and 5,621 compared with 2007 and 2000, respectively. Refer to Table 1.

 The Municipality of Patnongon population increased by 1.10 percent annually, on average, during the period 2010 to 2015. By comparison, this growth rate is slower than at which the municipality grew during the period 2000 to 2010 and from 2007 to 2010 at a rate of 1.07 percent and 1.50 percent, respectively.  Of the municipality’s 36 barangays, had the biggest population in 2015 with 6,044 persons. The other top four barangays include Aureliana (2,551), La Rioja (2,278), Carit-an (2,018) and Apgahan (1,671). The combined population of these five (5) barangays accounted for almost 39.17 percent of Patnongon’s population in 2015. See Table 3.

 Villa Flores was the smallest in terms of population size with 191 persons. Four other barangays at the bottom five, namely Alvañiz (257), Villa Sal (271), Villa Laua-an (340) and Quezon (346).

 The barangay of Igburi was the fastest growing barangay with an average annual population growth rate (PGR) of 4.54 percent. The second fastest growing barangay with an average annual population growth rate at 4.22 percent from 2010 to 2015 was Igbobon, followed by Magarang at 4.21 percent, Villa Cruz at 3.82 percent and Alvañiz at 3.73 percent.  Patnongon has a population density of 221 persons in every square kilometer. This is higher by 12 persons per square kilometer in 2010 with population density of 209 with a percent change of 5.9 percent from 2010-2015.

 The population of Patnongon in 2015 which was 37,176 is 6.38 percent of the total population of Antique which was 582,012 in the same year.

 The POPCEN was undertaken by the Philippine Statistics Authority in August 2015 pursuant to Republic Act No. 10625, also known as the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013 and executive Order 352- Designation of Statistical Activities That Will Generate Critical Data for Decision-Making of the Government and the Private Sector, which stipulates the conduct of a mid-decade census primarily to update the population in all barangays nationwide.

 Information on the count of the population was collected with 12:01 a.m. of August 1, 2015 as the census reference time and date.

 His Excellency President Benigno S. Aquino III declared as official for all purposes the population counts of the province, city/municipality, and barangay, based on the POPCEN 2015 under Proclamation No. 1269 dated 18 May 2016. The population counts were based on census questionnaires accomplished by about 750 enumerators and supervisors deployed during the nationwide census taking.

 The successful completion of the census-taking was made possible with the support of the local and national officials, government agencies, local government units, media, private agencies, and non-government organizations.

 The Philippine Statistics Authority Antique Provincial Statistical Office would like to extend grateful appreciation and commendation for the full support, cooperation and assistance of the member-agencies of the Provincial Census Coordination Board chaired by the Provincial Governor, Municipal Census Coordination Board with Municipal Mayor as the Chairman, all local and national agencies, the Barangay Officials, media, non-government organizations/agencies, the Supervisors and Enumerators who are the frontliners of this undertaking, all households, institutions and general public who made the census in the province a resounding and meaningful success.
