Welcome to another edition of the Bob Cats Newsletter. It's night time in the big city, doctor Thelonious Mann sitting on a beer crate outside the shopfront of the Waltenberg Art Gallery tending a knife cut and sewing it up by the light of the spotlights from inside the gallery. There’s a waft of oil and canvas, blood and sewage. The night nurse leaning up against the wall, one foot on the bricks, smoking a Schimmelpenninck, her hair is in a mess, her Burberry’s open and her tennis shoes dirty. The wounded man on a bar stool, Raymond Drinklater, rolls his eyes towards the sky and sings with a lisp a hymn from bygone days, way back in his youth in a small town by the sea. The seventh son of a shoe- maker and a milkmaid. His blue coat is torn, his black Fedora’s rolled off his bald head to the ground, yet he doesn’t make a sound. A streetcar named Lentigo Bay goes by carrying patients of the closed institution of Camarillo, their keepers and hobos from the train yard. In the lobby of the Saint James Hotel, Ernst Krukenberg, the night manager, is fending off three street walkers from Lombardy in silk and fake furs freezing their asses off. They are insistent, they curse in the Lombardian tongue, Ernst responds with hard love, caring, keeping it safe, a night stick and a kiss. Meanwhile; Tyrone Garrison and Ursula Vanderbilt high on affiance enjoy the quarantine together in the penthouse suite, guilty pleasures and daily yoga sessions. The cracked actor, disguised as the count of Monte Christo slides in through the door of Carne Vera Club, an establishment of sorts, members only, on the west side. ••• “Passion is a young man’s game.
