Local Teen Proposes Official Town Flag THURSDAY, APRIL 8, 2021 GILFORD, N.H. Local teen proposes official town flag BY ERIN PLUMMER [email protected] A Gilford teen has put forth a design for a flag that voters in a future town meeting could decide will be the town’s official flag. Darren Brown presented his proposed design for an official flag to the selectmen during their March 24 meeting and the board encouraged him to make a petition article to move the concept forward. Brown, an 18-year-old town voter, said the town has yet to adopt an official flag and has been using the flag of the Guilford Courthouse in Guilford, North Carolina. He also said an official flag might gain interest from those living outside the Lakes Re- gion. Brown presented his design for a possible flag that consists of gold, blue, and green triangles with a while chevron in the middle. Blue represents Lak- er Winnipesaukee, green represents the forests, and gold represents the local people’s labor and crafts- manship, with the white chevron representing the mountains. “This has been adjusted a lot, mainly so that it fol- lows all five rules of flag design made by the (North) American Vexillological Association: it has a sym- bol, it has a meaningful, it doesn’t use any complex COURTESY PHOTO Darren Brown presents his design for a possible official town flag to the selectmen. Travers Scott, Committee Chair Dr. Erin Ash Dr. Darren Linvill ABSTRACT For a long time, professional wrestling has existed on the outskirts of society, with the idea that it was just for college-aged men. With the rise of the popularity of the World Wrestling Entertainment promotion, professional wrestling entered the mainstream. Celebrities often appear at wrestling shows, and the WWE often hires mainstream musical artists to perform at their biggest shows, WrestleMania and Summer Slam. Despite this still-growing popularity, there still exists a gap between men’s wrestling and women’s wrestling. Often the women aren’t allowed long match times, and for the longest time sometimes weren’t even on the main shows.

Currently signed to WWE, as an ambassador and trainer, since December 2010. Michaels wrestled consistently for WWE, formerly the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), from 1988 until his first retirement in 1998. He held non- wrestling roles from 1998 to 2000 and resumed wrestling in 2002 until retiring ceremoniously in 2010. In the WWF/E, Michaels headlined major pay-per-view events between 1989 and 2010, closing the company's flagship annual event, WrestleMania, five times. He was the co-founder and original leader of the successful stable, D-Generation X. He also wrestled in the American Wrestling Association (AWA), where he founded The Midnight Rockers with Marty Jannetty in 1985. MENU Policy Analysis / Articles & Op-Eds The U.S.-Saudi Royal Rumble by Simon Henderson Nov 1, 2013 ABOUT THE AUTHORS Simon Henderson Simon Henderson is the Baker fellow and director of the Bernstein Program on Gulf and Energy Policy at The Washington Institute, specializing in energy matters and the conservative Arab states of the Persian Gulf. Articles & Testimony In the wake of recent tensions, the House of Saud could make things very unpleasant for Washington in these seven ways. hat is happening to the U.S. relationship with Saudi Arabia? Even after loud complaints from top Saudi W officials that the longtime alliance was on the rocks, the response of official Washington, outside the punditocracy, was an almost audible yawn. President Barack Obama's administration should not be so quick to dismiss the trouble the Saudis could cause for the United States in the Middle East -- or the Saudi royals' determination to cause a shift in U.S. policy. Two articles this month quoted unidentified "European diplomats" who had been briefed by Saudi intelligence maestro Prince Bandar bin Sultan that Riyadh was so upset with Washington that it was undertaking a "major shift" in relations. Saudi Arabia has a litany of complaints about U.S. policy in the Middle East. It faults Washington for pursuing a rapprochement with Iran, for not pushing Israel harder in peace talks with the Palestinians, and for not more forcefully backing efforts to topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Saudi royals are also angry that the United States did not stand behind Saudi support for Bahrain when it crushed an anti-government uprising in 2011, and that Washington has criticized the new Egyptian government, another Saudi ally, for its crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood protesters.

A COMMUNITY OF SMARKS: PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING AND THE CHANGING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEXTUAL PRODUCERS AND CONSUMERS by SHANE TOEPFER Under the Direction of Ted Friedman ABSTRACT This analysis of the professional wrestling genre attempts to understand the complex reading practices employed by wrestling’s fan community. I argue that wrestling fans consume these texts in the context of both the official narratives of media producers and the meta-narratives that exist independently of the official texts. In addition, I argue that wrestling fans display characteristics normally reserved for traditional media producers, collaborating with those producers over the direction of the official narratives. This process of collaboration is indicative of the blurring of the boundaries between textual producers and consumers and necessitates a theoretical conception of the audience that accounts for these unique fan practices. I have called this audience conception the productive audience model.
