Accredited media will receive a Zoom link that will be valid for the entirety of the event. Players will be brought to the mixed zone upon completion of their games and available for five-minute media scrums. It is the responsibility of the accredited media member to be on the Zoom call upon completion of the game as players will not be available after leaving the mixed zone unless pre-arranged in advance. All media scrums will be uploaded to Curling Canada’s YouTube page as soon as possible after each draw. Media scrums will only be conducted during the three middle draws of the day (11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. MST) with winning teams during the round robin. For teams/players not available during those times, please contact Curling Canada at [email protected] and staff will do its best to arrange a phone interview. Beginning on Wednesday, March 24 media scrums will be conducted after all draws during the playoffs. DRAW STATISTICS Live scores and stats are updated in real-time and can be viewed online at the Curling Canada scoreboard page. If you would like to receive the Draw Stats media report by email, please contact Al Cameron ([email protected] or 403-463-5500) TV NON-RIGHTS HOLDERS TSN is sole TV rights-holder for this event. However, in order to provide other stations and/or networks with an opportunity to get brief game/highlight footage, broadcast media may air two minutes of game footage daily, and must provide credit to TSN. TV non-rights holders may use as much post-game media scrum footage as they wish. No live hits, stand-ups or recording of non-broadcast games will be allowed to occur inside WinSport Arena at Canada Olympic Park. CURLING CANADA • 2021 HOME HARDWARE CANADIAN MIXED DOUBLES CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP, PRESENTED BY NATURE’S BOUNTY VITAMINS • MEDIA GUIDE 4 FACT SHEET OFFICIAL NAME: 2021 Home Hardware Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, presented by Nature’s Bounty Vitamins DATE/SITE: March 18-25, 2021 - WinSport Arena at Canada Olympic Park SEATING CAPACITY: 2,500 (not applicable) FORMAT: Thirty-five teams will compete in five pools of seven. The 35 teams were selected by the following criteria: • 14 Member Associations (provinces and territories) • 14 teams from the Canadian Mixed Doubles Rankings [CMDR] based on results from March 15, 2019 and March 15, 2020 (teams must have played at least two mixed doubles events during the season) • Seven teams unable to compete this season due to COVID-19 but had committed to playing mixed doubles together. (Rankings are based on each player’s best three CTRS points events from the 2019/2020 season combined with their partners. All players must be part of Curling Canada’s National Team program) Teams will play six games in their respective pools. The top 12 teams will advance to the playoff bracket with the top four seeds receiving a bye. The remaining playoff games will be: 8v9, 5v12, 7v10 and 6v11. Winners advance to play the top four seeds in the Round of Eight. Teams that advance through the Round of Eight will officially qualify for the Page playoff, and will play one Page Seeding game where the winners advance to the 1v2 game and the losers play in the 3v4 game. The winner of the 1v2 game advances directly to the final and the loser plays in the semifinal. The winner of the 3v4 game advances to the semifinal and loser is out. The winner of the semifinal game will advance to the final where the 2021 Canadian mixed doubles champion will be crowned. Total purse: $150,000 1st: $50,000 5th-8th: $6,500 2nd: $30,000 9th-12th: $3,500 3rd: $20,000 4th: $10,000 CURLING CANADA • 2021 HOME HARDWARE CANADIAN MIXED DOUBLES CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP, PRESENTED BY NATURE’S BOUNTY VITAMINS • MEDIA GUIDE 5 GAME DURATION: In the round robin, games are scheduled for eight ends with a minimum of six ends played and completed before a team may concede. ROUND ROBIN RED teams (first team on the draw) will begin their six-minute practice 20 minutes prior to PRE-GAME PRACTICES: the scheduled game time. Immediately following the RED pre-game practice, each player will deliver a stone to the button - one clockwise to the away end and one counter-clockwise to the home end. Both will be measured and combined to determine the team’s LSD value. YELLOW teams will begin their practice immediately following the RED teams draw to the button. After their six-minute practice, each player will deliver a stone to the button - one counter-clockwise to the away end and one clockwise to the home end. Both will be measured and combined to determine the team’s LSD value. Full sweeping is allowed. Each player must throw at least three clockwise and three counterclockwise turns during the round robin. Teams opposing each other in the game shall use the Last Stone Draw (LSD) process to determine which team has the decision on the placement of the stones for the first end. The team with the lesser combined LSD distance shall have the decision. For the purpose of event ranking, the two highest individual distances of the twelve draws will be discarded. The remaining total distance from the round robin will be used to rank teams. GAME TIMING: “Thinking Time” will be used. Each team will receive 24 minutes to complete an eight-end game. Extra ends will be 3 minutes each for each team. Your clock will run when: • All stones have come to rest and stones in an out of play position have been moved behind the back line AND • The sweeper(s) and person who has just delivered have moved to the side of the sheet AND • The person in charge of the house has relinquished control of the house AND • The person in charge of the house who is now the “delivering team” has taken control of the house. A team’s game clock stops once the stone has reached the tee line at the delivery end. TIMEOUTS: Each team is allotted 2 - ninety second time-outs when their team clock will be stopped. Please signify to your Game Umpire and Time Clock Operator that you are calling a time-out. The Coach may attend the time-out. The team that did not request the time-out may meet with their coach (positioned behind the scoreboard). Each team will receive 1 - ninety second team time-out for each extra end.
