Expedia Norway Campaign: the Battles of Narvik Markets: Norway CASE STUDY Client: Expedia Norway Campaign: The Battles Of Narvik Markets: Norway Services: SEO, Creative Campaign development and Strategic Outreach The objectives: The overall objectives were to: • Generate high authority links • Increasing organic search engine rankings, thus increasing traffic. Our primary target was to get coverage on NRK (Norwegian equivalent to the BBC), as well as local newspapers around Northern Norway. Beyond that we wanted our campaign to feature in other relevant travel and history sites. What we did: This campaign was created in conjunction with Visit Narvik to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the sea battles that took place there in WWII. It also drew attention to Narvik’s present status as a scuba diving hotspot. The campaign - linked to from Visit Narvik’s homepage - contains exclusive photos from the Narvik Centre and video interviews featuring a war veteran and a local historian, and is available in both Norwegian and English. The results: • Unique collaborative creative campaign with quality in focus • 89 linking root domains from some of the biggest authority sites in Norway including; - NRK (Norway’s largest TV station, equivalent to BBC) - The Norwegian Royal Family - The Norwegian Armed Forces - The German Embassy in Oslo. • The campaign is also on Bjerkvik Schools list for additional information about WW2. Verve Search Ltd, 81-83 Victoria Road, Surbiton, Surrey, KT6 4NS Tel: +44(0)208 390 5944 www.vervesearch.com • 22,211 campaign views (given the size of the Norwegian population this would equate to 242,266 views in a country like the UK) • 7,100 shares on social media through the coverage it gained; as well as through the campaign page itself (Twitter data counted until they implemented tracking changes). • Shares from Social Media accounts of: The Imperial War Museum, The Churchill War Rooms and Aftenposten (Norway’s largest newspaper). News site History and Diving Organisation Impact for the client: • Organic visibility increased by 9.6% in the month after campaign launch • Overall search visibility grew by 16%: • Whilst this campaign helped general rankings, it also specifically targeted rankings for Narvik based terms. In just over a month since its launch, rankings increased by an average of six positions, on to page 1: • According to Searchmetrics the website broke in to the top 150 most visible websites in the whole of Norway. • THE NICKEL MINERALIZATIONOF THE RANA MAFIC INTRUSION, NORDLAND, NORWAY. Rognvald Boyd and Carl 0. Mathiesen Norges geologiskeundersøkelse,Postboks 3006, 7001 Trondheim, Norway. NORGES GEOLOGISKE UNDERSØKELSE ABSTRACT The Råna synorogenicCaledonide intrusion in north Norway contains pentlandite+pyrrhotite+chalcopyrite+pyritedisseminationsgrading up tO 0.8% sulfide nickel in peridotite in the northwesternpart of the body. Peridotite and pyroxenite occur as bands and lenses within a peripheral zone mainly of norite, around a core mainly of quartz-norite.Crystal settling appears to have been an important process at Råna but over much of the intrusion primary structureshave been severely disturbed by the later Caledonian fold phases which also involved local overthrusting: these movements resulted in iniolding and thrustingof units of semipel- itic and calesilicate gneiss and black schist into the intrusion. The body has the form of an inverted, possibly truncated cone with its axiS plunging northwestwardsat a moderate angle. The peridotites show no obvioUs systematicvariation of sulfide or silicate mineralogy across strike. Locally, ass&iated with certain deformation zones, disseminationpasses into ma3sive mobilized sulfide ti with up to 5% nickel. The proximity of sulfide-bearingblack schists to mineralized rocks, the occurrence of graphite djsseminated in peridotite and other factors, suggest assimilationof sulfur from the Country rocks. Sulfur isotope studies do not, however, offer confirmationof the hypo- thesis that an external source ot sulfur nas had more than very local significanceat Råna. 1 NORGES GEOLOGISKE UNDERSØKELSE • INTRODUCTION The Råna mafic intrusion lies at approximately68°30'N, in steep mountainous terrain 20 km soutnwest of the iron-ore port of Narvik in north Norway (Fig.1).The present paper will give a brief description of the general geology of the complex, with a more detailed consider- ation of the sulfide-bearingareas - especially the main one at Bruvann (Fig.2) - and of the cenetic implicationsinvolved.

We have also deduced a new model based on the ‘seismic pumping’ mechanism to explain the observed correlation between land uplift and groundwater yield in Norway. Rock avalanches and landslides represent the most hazardous effects of earthquakes in Norway with its mountainous terrain, deep fjords and relatively large areas with unstable quick-clay. New seismic mini-arrays in the Ranafjord area and the northern North Sea have sharply defined zones of increased seismicity. A total of 350 earthquakes have been detected in the outer Ranafjord area during the project period (2½ years), with magnitudes up to 2.8.

NARVIK – Norwegian Eldorado for wreck-divers Wrecks of Narvik Text by Erling Skjold (history and diving) and Frank Bang (diving) Underwater photography by Frank Bang Ship photography by Erling Skjolds, NSA collection Translation by Michael Symes Dieter von Roeder The port of Narvik in north Norway was established around the export of iron-ore from Sweden. This was due to the very good harbour and its ice-free con- ditions. At the outbreak of World War II, Narvik was a strategically important harbour, and during the first few days of the war a very intense battle was fought out here between German, Norwegian and British naval forces. During this fighting several ships were sunk, both warships and civil merchant ships. Narvik harbour was transformed into a great ship ceme- tery, with wrecks sticking up out of the water every- where. Several of the ships were later salvaged, but many wrecks still remained. With its high density of wrecks, Narvik is an eldorado for wreck divers. • K Yanite-Grade Metamorphism in the Evenes and Bogen Groups, Ofoten
Kyanite-grade metamorphism in the Evenes and Bogen Groups, Ofoten, North Norway MARK G. STELTENPOHL & JOHN M. BARTLEY Steltenpohl, M. G. & Bartley, J. M. : Kyanite-grade metamorphism in the Evenes and Bogen Groups, Ofoten, North Norway. Norsk Geologisk Tidsskrift, Vol. 64, pp. 21-26. Oslo 1984. ISSN 0029-196X. Directly north of Ofotfjorden in northern Norway, pelitic schists within the Evenes and Bogen Groups contain the mineral assemblage garnet + biotite ± kyanite ± staurolite + white mica + quartz ± plagio clase. This assemblage implies metamorphic P-T minima of- 540"C and - 4. 8 kb. The rocks are thus at a higher grade than suggested by previous reports, which placed them in the greenschist facies. This indicates that several metamorphic allochthons in Ofoten, including rocks of the Narvik, Evenes, Bogen, and Niingen Groups, are all at kyanite grade, supporting recent interpretations which on structural grounds concluded that the metamorphic peak outlasted stacking of these allochthons. A proposed correlation of the Evenes Group with the Middle Ordovician-Lower Silurian Balsfjord Supergroup implies that this stacking and associated kyanite-grade metamorphism are post-early Silurian and are related to the Scandian phase of the Caledonian orogeny. • Hovedrapport Ny Jernbane Fauske – Tromsø (Nord-Norgebanen) Oppdatert Kunnskapsgrunnlag
