Lamentably, the average man on the street, most of the news media and the establish ed scientific community still find them selves victims of this perplexing quan- drum. The media- out of beat with the pulsing psychedelic black-market - stand unable to grasp and label anything sub stantial or sellable about hallucinogens. Studying psychedelics from across the table, modern science sits absorbed but unable to capture and control the spir itual lens that is necessary for unlock ing the potentials and latent deeper mean ings surrounding these elixers. Tn this light, the following is excerpted from Swaniihi Satyananda's Tantra of K u n d a 1 - ini Yoga published by the Bihar School of Yoga, Monghyr, India 1973. 'The fourth method of awake ning according to yoga is through herbs. In Sanskrit the word is AUSHADHI but it should not mean drugs. Through herbs either the partial or the fuller awakening can be brought about. Either the awakening of IDA or PINGALA or awakening of SUSHUMNA which means the entire total awak ening can be brought about. That is known as AUSHADHI but it is also said that the herbs which should be used to awaken this potentiality, or this life in man should be understood or should be got only through the GURU, not without the GURU. Be cause there are certain herbs that awaken IDA and there are others that can awaken PINGALA only; and there are others that can esren suppress both of these functions so that you can go to the mental asylum very quick ly! So the question of AUSHADHI or the herbal awakening is very risky, quick but unreliable method. It should only be got from one who is a very reliable person and who knows the science very wellf. 'Wu' Albus DOUBLE-SPACED QUESTION REMARKS: A BRIEF CHAT WITH ELVIN D. SMITH by Didymos When I 1st ordered a copy of the Psy chozoic Press it was to supplement my growing library on the subjects of altered-states and psychedelics. I really didn't know just what to ex pect.. ... I figured anyone creating a forum for this controversial & oft en illegal subject roust be nuts for calling attention to themself. The times are just too strange and the ordeals for free-thinking just too harsh these days. I'm pretty careful about these tilings, I believe that psychedelics could be come the next pornography unless sin cere, honest & intelligent folks set the truth & the facts about this sub ject for everyone to see. The Psychozoic Press passed this test hands down, In fact, it took my scru tiny and critical faculties & turned them into support & contribution.... I guess I'm not alone. In the past few months, Ken Kesey, Stan Krippner, Tim Leary, Peter Stafford, Terence McKenna and others have also taken the time to compliment the Psycho- zoic Press. Something's going on here and its going in the right direction I decided to talk to the creator & get some kind of perspective on the purpose and reasons that give this unusual communique its1 appeal. Also, rather than it just being °a communication exchange0, I wanted the author Elvin Smith to take part in a communication sharing. Put your ear to the ground* and listen (£: Obviously you have had some spir itual experiences and quickenings with psychedelics.Would you comment on the usefulness & drawbacks you've discovered from this controversial spiritual path? ELVIN: Well, sure! You know, I've tr ied to talk to people about the id eas I've come up with in regards to the psychedelic experience. It usually ends up with them saying: 'Elvin, what the hell are you talking about?! My 1st use of psychedelics were grand . I started using them every week-end, etc. and things seemed to be cruising along beautifully! After a few years I realized that I couldn't maintain that level of use without. being more productive about what was coming down in my mind. This is one drawback to the psychedelic spiritual path. There is sj> much in even a single psychedelic session. After it's finished, a person has to take inventory about just what it is that he got out of the whole thing. Otherwise, it's just sort of a 'ce rebral mastrubation! You should come back with something that people can relate to.... I've learned this over the space of a few years, so I try to pass it on. The advantage of this spiritual path is that it helped me integrate quest ions that I had about my relationship \o society. AFTER,A PERSON HAS TO TAKE INVENTORY. OTHERWISE,IT'S CEREBRAL MASTURBATION! In grade-school I used to have to pra ctise air-raid & atomic bomb drills. These things affect kids' perspectives as they grow. Vague fears and a sense of impermanence enlarge with you. Psychedelics gave me a way to deal with this. The way, of course, is just to forget it! In light of the psychedel ic experience, things like this are just trivial! There are more import ant things. It's like watching your fingernails grow or waiting for an earthquake. .you just can't spend the t ime . Q: Do you have a wife & kids? Do you think that one can support the average middle-American lifestyle & still main tain a developed psychedelic perspecti i v e ? ELVI N: W e l l s u r e , I've got a w ife &2 k i d s .     A Note from the Author… The Psychedelic Resource List (PRL) was born in 1994 as a subscription-based newsletter. In 1996, everything that had previously been published, along with a bounty of new material, was updated and compiled into a book. From 1996 until 2004, several new editions of the book were produced. With each new version, a decrease in font size correlated to an increase in information. The task of revising the book grew continually larger. Two attempts to create an updated fifth edition both fizzled out. I finally accepted that keeping on top of all of the new books, businesses, and organizations, had become a more formidable challenge than I wished to take on. In any case, these days folks can find much of what they are looking for by simply using an Internet search engine. Even though much of the PRL is now extremely dated, it occurred to me that there are two reasons why making it available on the web might be of value. First, despite the fact that a good deal of the book’s content describes things that are no longer extant, certainly some of the content relates to writings that are still available and businesses or organizations that are still in operation. The opinions expressed regarding such literature and groups may remain helpful for those who are attempting to navigate the field for solid resources, or who need some guidance regarding what’s best to avoid. Second, the book acts as a snapshot of underground culture at a particular point in history. As such, it may be found to be an enjoyable glimpse of the psychedelic scene during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

It also includes the inner pictures of the soul. —Edvard Munch The reality of magic exists somewhere between the ontology of structure and the inscription of meaning.1 —Bonnie Glass-Coffin Introduction Psychedelic feminism is a recent idea developed by cultural activist Zoe Helene to describe the ways psychedelic psychospiritual practices can empower women. This article seeks to explicate the ways psychedelic feminism is grounded in ecofeminism, third-wave feminism, and the French feminist idea of écriture féminine (writing the feminine). The historical context of Western psychedelic-assisted therapy reveals the ways psychedelic experiences can facilitate psychospiritual transformation and shed light on contemporary Journal for the Study of Radicalism, Vol. 13, No. 1, 2019, pp. 75–120. issn 1930-1189. © 2019 Michigan State University Board of Trustees. Psychedelic experiences are theorized as innately feminist, which expands the concept of psychedelic feminism and interprets it as a feminist practice that is not based in biological gender. Lee Bumping into a friend at the Harvard Coop who told me he had applied for a position at Santa Cruz but had changed his mind, I said, "Well, maybe I'll apply." He looked at me askance and said: "Do you know anything about the California University sssssystem?" I didn't, but I registered the hiss in the way he pronounced the word system. I thought: snake in the grass? I was teaching at M.I.T. and my term was about to expire and I needed a job. Soon after an article appeared in the New York Times that Kenneth Thimann had been appointed Provost of Crown College, UCSC. I went to the phone. I was a Fellow of a Radcliffe House where Thimann was Provost and I knew him. He was a very distinguished professor of botany at Harvard. We went over for tea and he hired me. Richard Baker, the eventual Zentatsu Myoyu and Zen Roshi, called, looking for Tillich and Erikson to invite to a conference he was organizing at Asilomar. I had been Tillich's Teaching Assistant and Erikson was my thesis advisor. They weren't available so I offered myself and he bought it, including my wife, so we flew out and got a look at Santa Cruz before moving there. Driving down Pacific Ave. in l965 was like driving down the main street in Paducah, in l937, although I had never been there.
