However, the average productivity of crop continues to be very low as compared to world average as well as its climatic potential in India. Occurrence of drought at one or the other stages of crop growth is attributed as one of the major factors responsible for low productivity of soybean in India. Therefore, in order to improve the productivity and sustainability of soybean in India, there is an urgent need to make systematic efforts to develop genotypes which are better adapted to drought conditions. Physiological dissection of complex traits like drought is a first step to understand the genetic control of tolerance. Identification of physiological traits and genetic sources possessing such traits will ultimately enhance the efficiency of conventional as well as molecular breeding strategies for drought tolerance. The current review highlights the efforts needed to characterize the soybean growing environment in India and need to exploit germplasm in developing drought tolerance in soybean using physiological and biochemical traits. Also, the review analyses the present gaps in research and required focus to fill these gaps in order to utilize these traits for developing future soybean plant which is tolerant to drought conditions. Forest Cover (Percentage): Mizoram (85.4%)> Arunachal Pradesh (79.63%)> Meghalaya (76.33%) According to India State of Forest Report the recorded forest area of the state is 94,689 sq. km which is 30.72% of its geographical area. According to Indian state of forest Report (ISFR – 2019) the total forest cover in M.P. increased to 77,482.49 sq km which is 25.14% of the states geographical area. The forest area in MP is increased by 68.49 sq km. The first forest policy of Madhya Pradesh was made in 1952 and the second forest policy was made in 2005. Madhya Pradesh has a total of 925 forest villages of which 98 forest villages are deserted or located in national part and sanctuaries. MP is the first state to nationalise 100% of the forests. Among the districts, Balaghat has the densest forest cover, with 53.44 per cent of its area covered by forests. Ujjain (0.59 per cent) has the least forest cover among the districts In terms of forest canopy density classes: Very dense forest covers an area of 6676 sq km (2.17%) of the geograhical area. RENUKA SINGH SARUTA) (a) & (b): Under the schemes/programmes namely Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India and Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub-Scheme (SCA to TSS), funds are released to State Government to undertake various activities as per proposals submitted by the respective State Government and approval thereof by the Project Appraisal Committee (PAC) constituted in this Ministry for the purpose. Funds under these schemes are not released directly to any ITDP/ITDA. However, funds are released to State for implementation of approved projects either through Integrated Tribal Development Projects (ITDPs)/Integrated Tribal Development Agencies (ITDAs) or through appropriate agency. The study comprises 240 soybean grower of Chhindawara, Khandwa and Narsinghpur districts and 120 mustard growers of Mandla, Morena and Chhatarpur districts of Madhya Pradesh. The study reveals that oilseeds production has increased tremendously due to successful implementation of TMO and ISOPOM programme in the State. The cultivation of soybean and mustard was also found profitable over there competing crops i.e. maize and wheat. There is still tremendous scope for increasing yield of these crops in the State as farmers were found to harvest below the potential yield of the area under study.

The temperature in summer 0 0 0 exceeds 45 C except in hilly region. The temperature during winters varies from 5 C to 25 C except in the plains of Chhattisgarh, where the winter is not so pronounced. The rainfall ranges from 1500 mm in the eastern and southern regions to less than 800 mm in the western zone. On account of its size and varied habitats, its environment supports a unique and wide variety of plant life. Almost every plant family is represented in India's rich flora. Out of these many of the species have medicinal value. Biodiversity of Madhya Pradesh is extremely rich with a wide variety of species.
