FOLLETO LEXOLOGY Mayo 2017.Pdf ¡Mi encuentro con Hippo! Seguramente el día de hoy inicias una nueva aventura en tu vida al encontrarte con Club Familiar Hippo. Yo la inicié hace ya hace algunos años, creo que más de 25. Cuando tuve la oportunidad de participar en una sesión del Club Familiar Hippo en Japón, no sabía hacia donde podría llevarme su dinámica de vida. Mis primeros pensamientos me llevaron a juzgar lo que decían sobre la adquisición de los idiomas y del cómo se podrían hablar más de 7 idiomas al mismo tiempo. Por mi mente pasaban un sin fin de preguntas: ¿funcionará?... ¿es verdad?... y muchas más. Justo en ese momento decidí no dar importancia a mis primeras impresiones y me di la oportunidad de disfrutar. En ese momento tuve la sensación de que se abría para mí una gran puerta al conocimiento. Así fue como la propuesta de Hippo comenzó a darme nuevas posibilidades de encontrar dentro de mí nuevos caminos de autodescubrimiento. Poco a poco me fui sintiendo más cómodo y descubrí algo que desde hacía muchos años había olvidado: el ser simple. Vi que en la vida el camino natural es dejar que tu yo interno despierte y resurja en ti la capacidad de asombro y diversión. Estos son los primeros pasos al proceso natural del ser humano para aprender y vivir. Club Familiar Hippo es un espacio que a simple vista pareciera un lugar escondido donde su paz y reencuentro con nosotros mismos nos da la oportunidad de despertar al niño que llevamos dentro. Nuestra vida actual nos lleva en una carrera constante en la que la mayoría de las veces no sabemos dónde está la meta. Perdemos de vista lo que realmente deseamos por seguir la carrera de la mayoría. Pero en Hippo el caos desaparece y volvemos a disfrutar del ser nosotros mismos y de ahí inicia la posibilidad de visualizar lo que somos, lo que queremos y lo que nos mueve. Cuando podemos decir nuestras primeras palabras en otros idiomas, es la emoción la que nos transporta y nos lleva a disfrutar como cuando se es niño. Disfrutábamos de jugar con lodo, mojarnos en la lluvia, caminar descalzos, andar en bicicleta o la emoción al descubrir a mi amigo escondido. Reír sin que nos preocupen las formas y disfrutar junto a nuestros amigos nos da la satisfacción y alegría para continuar y seguir el proceso natural del aprendizaje. ¡Sé tú mismo, Sé natural y tu potencial será infinito! Nunca olvidaré estas palabras que nuestro fundador Yo Sakakibara repetía a cada instante. Hoy te invito a dejarte llevar en esta aventura llamada HIPPO y darte la oportunidad de ir descubriendo poco a poco este mundo del lenguaje y amigos, pero date permiso de ser tú mismo, abrir tus oídos y tus ojos pero sobre todo tu corazón para entender, sentir y disfrutar lo que es Hippo y el cómo hoy puedes estar aquí, junto a nuevos amigos que te ayudarán y guiarán en este proceso. Siente y recuerda esas emociones que tuviste de niño junto a tus amigos y hermanos y así será más fácil y divertido. En Hippo siempre estaremos contentos de que más y más personas puedan vivir la experiencia de ser una persona multilingüe, que sin límites y sin fronteras pueda contribuir a fomentar un mundo mejor. ¡BIENVENIDOS! En esta recopilación tomada del Periódico Multilingüe de Hippo Japón en la columna Kabajin no Tsubuyaki que escribió nuestro Presidente, Sr. Kenshi Suzuki, creemos que puedes encontrar grandes oportunidades para llevar este estilo de vida extraordinario para ti y tu familia. Kenshi Suzuki Presidente de LEX Institute/ Hippo Family Club Japan. Nace en Japón en 1944. Graduado de la Universidad de Waseda en la carrera de Ciencias Políticas y Economía. En 1981 colaboró junto al fundador de LEX Hippo, el señor Yo Sakakibara, en la implementación de las actividades multilingües y los programas transnacionales de intercambio. En el año 1987 fue nombrado Director General de LEX Institute. En 1998 se mudó junto con su familia a los Estados Unidos para presentar el programa en Nueva York, Boston y México. En este mismo año comenzaron las actividades multilingües en Estados Unidos y en México, regresando a Japón en el 2002. A partir de esto iniciaron los campamentos internacionales de jóvenes multilingües en Shanghái, Tailandia, Malasia y en la prefectura de Nagano en Japón, LEX Multilingual Presentation (un foro en el que los jóvenes presentan un discurso con un mensaje para el mundo en mínimo tres idiomas), los programas de internship alrededor del mundo y muchos proyectos más que seguirán surgiendo. En los últimos años a través de actividades de investigación, Kenshi Suzuki profundizó su amistad con el profesor Kuniyoshi Sakai (Neurolingüista de la Universidad de Tokio) y la profesora Suzanne Flynn (Lingüista del MIT) y desde el 2016, Hippo, la Universidad de Tokio y el MIT trabajan juntos en un proyecto de investigación. El señor Kenshi Suzuki también es escritor y productor de diversos materiales multilingües utilizados en las actividades de Club Familiar Hippo. En el último año fue nombrado también Presidente de LEX América. 3 Un medio ambiente multilingüe ¿Qué sucede cuando un nuevo bebé llega a la familia? Todos empiezan a hablarle y escuchan con mucha atención lo que balbucea y dice. Con el amor y motivación que reciben de su familia, todos los bebés adquieren el idioma naturalmente. Como es en las actividades multilingües de Hippo, todos escuchamos con mucha atención lo que algún socio de Hippo balbucea y dice, sin importar las veces que lo haga. ¿Qué pasaría si no existiera quien nos escuchara? ¿Querrías hablar solo? Creo que sería muy raro y dejarías de hablar. En las actividades del lenguaje, los “receptores” son parte primordial de este proceso. La creación de un medio ambiente multilingüe en casa también es de suma importancia. Pensemos en la situación de una familia donde el papá no participa en Hippo, solamente apoya desde el exterior. En el hogar, su familia comienza a experimentar el C3P1 y su casa se llena aún más de sonidos multilingües. Para él, tal vez los sonidos le suenan solamente como ruido. Involuntariamente apagaría el reproductor pensando “¡qué ruidoso!”. Si no lo apaga,

    NOTE on LEXInstitute- Hippo Family Club and its Activities INTRODUCTION to LEX Institute- HIPPO Family Club The Hippo Family Club(ヒッポファミリークラブ?) is a brainchild of an organization known as the Institute for Language Experience, Experiment & Exchange,also known as LEX. It was created in 1981 by YoSakakibara, who has been researching language acquisition for over 30 years, working with researchers at Harvard and MIT, and then moving his research institute to Tokyo. The Hippo Family Club is a transnational network of community-based language clubs in which both children and adults engage in various activities with the end of acquiring multiple languages simultaneously. The LEX Institute organizes “HIPPO Family Club” where families and individuals of all ages enjoy immersion-style multilingual language learning activities. HIPPO Family Club members create an environment where they enjoy the sounds of many languages through HIPPO original multilingual CDs. An essential element of this multilingual environment is incorporating members of all ages as well as members from around the world. Multilingualism is Possible Because it is Natural. For over 30 years, LEX / Hippo Family Club members have enjoyed sharing languages from all around the world.     Human Rights Education at the Digital/Global Age Akihiko Morita ased on the international definition of human rights, how can human rights education be universal in character? How can such Btype of education be translated into concrete programs? Nature and Scope of Human Rights Education Human rights education should be able to adapt to the different dynamics in society. This adaptation to the societal situation can consist of several components. First, human rights education must embrace intercultural education in a globalizing world. Intercultural education is education based on intercul- turalism, a new political ideology which has been taking over multicultural- ism recently.1 In my interpretation, interculturalism is a political ideology for man- aging cultural and religious diversity by explicitly addressing the de-facto inequality from the perspective of each ethnic master-narrative in the given society and ensuring all parties equal participation in the process of making the new collective identity. Second, human rights education must be culturally sensitive, meaning, it must be attentive and respectful of individual cultures, especially those of the marginalized and oppressed people. In this connection, human rights education must take sentimental education seriously as it arguably facili- tates and expands a sense of equality among human beings as Richard Rorty stressed.2 Third, human rights education must take into account the rapidly chang- ing social/political/economic structure of societies and nurture individual mind-set, reframed by the recent development of science and technologies as the major engines of globalization. This new development is coined as “the information age”, where knowledge-production and information-pro- cessing have become part of the mainstream society.

Basic principles of Human Rights Education(HRE) Human rights are, by definition, universal and its education should be universal. What does it mean that human rights education(HRE) is and should be universal and how could we put it into concrete program? Firstly, human rights view every human as equal in dignity and rights and HRE’s goal is to nurture a sense of equality of human regardless of their origin, sex, age. The major challenge in this enterprise is, as Richard Rorty so convincingly elaborated1,, is that we, human, quite often unconsciously and unintentionally tend to put boundary between human like us and quasi-human unlike us. So, in addition to the solid and rational knowledge about human nature, we need “sentiment education” which could expand a sense of “people like us” as much as possible. Secondly, human rights as universal norm must find appropriate philosophical justifications in order to be integrated into Non-Western societies and such justifications must be attractive and inspiring for ordinary citizens in those societies and be based on their own intellectual resources, including local languages. Hence, HRE must embrace intercultural education in the globalizing world. Youth from Korea, China, Japan, and other Asian countries will gather to participate in this program. Working together, youth will gain a broader perspective of the world, and learn to recognize the similarities in each other, and develop new friendships. << Asian Multilingual Youth Camp Concept >> The “Asian Multilingual Youth Camp” provides youth from all over Asia and the world with the opportunities to work together and create the future. To make fruitful experiences in the Camp, participants are expected to: 1. “Enjoy cultural differences beyond borders!” - Let’s make many friends with participants from different countries! - Regardless of what country anyone is from, let’s all talk with each other a lot! 2. “Enjoy language differences!” - Let’s experience and enjoy many different languages! - No matter what languages they are, let’s try to learn new languages from each other! - Let’s create a multilingual environment by something as simple as greeting each other in the many different languages that we learn from each other!
