The seventh annual SCAD aTVfest features a celebrated lineup of writers, performers, directors, and producers during the university’s 40th anniversary. Television accelerates storytelling innovation, and at SCAD aTVfest, television superfans and SCAD’s future industry leaders convene to experience three enlightening days of panels, screenings, and conversations about the shows we adore. At SCAD, students across entertainment arts and related degree programs conceive and create award-winning programming in the university’s professional-level production sets, editing suites, and soundstages. Student-created television shows include Hot Case, Nailed It! and The Buzz, winner of an Emmy Award for Best Scripted Series at the 2017 College Television Awards. SCAD students have earned prestigious accolades, including 14 first-place honors for SCAD at the Southeast Emmy Student Production Awards in 2018. Advanced by the preeminent university for television and digital media, SCAD alumni contribute to Georgia’s $9.5 billion film and television industry. Parking and transportation

Parking is free for all SCAD aTVfest attendees at SCAD Atlanta. Free shuttles run throughout the day between festival venues.

Ticket policy Tickets to all SCAD aTVfest events are nonrefundable and nonexchangeable. ELLIE KEMPER Thursday, Feb. 7, 7:30 p.m. SCADshow, Mainstage

The star of ’s and Robert Carlock comedy series Unbreakable , Ellie Kemper has earned two Emmy Award and two Award nominations for her breakout performance. Previously, Kemper portrayed on NBC’s hit sitcom . She first gained attention with her one-woman show Feeling Sad/Mad with Ellie Kemper at the Theatre. Kemper’s other credits include a costarring role in Bridesmaids and appearances in 21 Jump Street, , They Came Together and Somewhere. A graduate of , Kemper has also written for GQ, Esquire, McSweeney’s, and The New Yorker.

MIR ZAFAR ALI Friday, Feb. 8, 7:30 p.m. SCADshow, Mainstage

A native of Karachi, Pakistan, Mir Zafar Ali has achieved remarkable success as a visual effects artist on some of the most popular and honored animated films of all time. In the last six years alone, he has contributed to animated feature film Oscar winners Frozen, Big Hero 6 and Zootopia, along with Oscar nominee Moana. Ali started out creating digital effects for the 2004 disaster epic The Day After Tomorrow. This led to superhero work on Spider-Man 3, The Incredible Hulk and X-Men: First Class. His talents became more widely known working on The Golden Compass and Life of Pi, both Academy Award winners for Best Visual Effects. Inspired by Jurassic Park as a child, Ali began working on television commercials in Pakistan before moving to the U.S. to enroll at SCAD. With one quarter left before graduating, he sent his reel to visual effects powerhouse Digital Domain and was in two weeks later. Since then, he has worked at Sony Pictures Animation, Rhythm & Hues Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios. A member of the Visual Effects Society and the Animation Guild, Ali returned to SCAD to complete his degree in 2015. Awarded at signature events throughout this 40th anniversary year, the SCAD40 Prize is presented to graduates who give all of themselves — hand, head and heart — to their creative careers in the highest ranks of culture and business.

Located in the heart of Midtown, SCADshow is the university’s premier theater space in Atlanta. The venue opened in 1986 as the Academy Theater and was later rechristened as the 14th Street Playhouse while under the management of the Woodruff Arts Center’s Tony Award-winning Alliance Theatre. During the last quarter-century, dozens of local and national companies have graced its stages. SCAD acquired the theater in December 2013. After a whirlwind five-week renovation, it was rededicated as SCADshow. In addition to presentations, lectures and symposiums, SCADshow is home to SCAD aTVfest, the university’s annual celebration of design, creativity and innovation in television and digital media.

At SCAD, career preparation is woven into every fiber of the university. One asset is the SCAD Casting Office, the only on-site, professionally run casting office in higher education.

Led by the dean of the SCAD School of Entertainment Arts, Andra Reeve-Rabb, former director of CBS prime-time casting in New York, the office provides professional productions access to experienced SCAD actors. The university is among ’s Top 25 Drama Schools and, in 2016, the office placed 178 students in Georgia-based productions. SCAD operates a summer internship with CBS casting in New York and recently launched an academic minor in casting led by Alpha Tyler, former head of casting for Tyler Perry Studios.

In 2017, two SCAD alumni who got their start with the SCAD Casting Office won roles in Netflix series: Kayli Carter stars in Godless, and DeRon Horton stars in Dear White People. Carter also landed a role in the film Private Life opposite Paul Giamatti, and Horton can be seen in Roman J. Israel, Esq. starring Denzel Washington. Other alumni have been cast in shows Stranger Things and Law & Order: SVU.

Recent and upcoming productions with SCAD actors placed by the SCAD Casting Office include BBC’s Living the Dream, Killerman starring Liam Hemsworth, Ang Lee’s Gemini Man starring Will Smith, An L.A. Minute with Gabriel Byrne, as well as Lizzie with Kristen Stewart, Christine and Rings.

In this Heaven-set workplace comedy based on Simon Rich’s book What in God’s Name, Craig is a low-level angel responsible for handling all of humanity’s prayers.
