Grand Prix Racing at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto First used in 1987, this is the 34th successive year that a Grand Prix has been held here. Jerez has been the most successful circuit for Spanish riders in the premier class, with a total of 14 wins (ahead of Le Mans, with 13). They are: Alberto Puig in 1995; Alex Criville in 1997, 98, 99; Sete Gibernau in 2004; Dani Pedrosa in 2008, 2013, 2017; Jorge Lorenzo in 2010, 2011, 2015; and Marc Marquez in 2014, 2018, 2019. In the MotoGP™ era since 2002, there have been only three occasions on which the rider who clinched the title at the end of the year didn’t stand on the podium at the opening race: 2008 (Rossi), 2015 (Lorenzo) and 2017 (Marquez). However, they all finished within the top five.

Rookie Brad Binder is the first South African rider to race in MotoGP™ since its introduction back in 2002 and the first in the premier class since Shane Norval at the Catalunya GP back in 2000.

Qatar winner Tetsuta Nagashima will be aiming to become the first Japanese rider to take back- to-back intermediate class win since MotoGP™ Legend in 2001 on his way to clinching the title.

At the Spanish GP, fourth-place Qatar finisher Joe Roberts will be aiming to become the first American rider to take back-to-back pole positions in the intermediate class since in 1990 (Hungary/Australia).

After getting the best result for an American rider in Moto2™ in Qatar, Roberts will also be aiming to become the first American rider to get a podium in the intermediate category since John Kocinski was third in Assen back in 1993.

Over the last three years, it’s been a Honda rider on pole at Jerez. The last non-Honda rider to qualify on pole is Nicolo Bulega (which was also his first).

Brothers in the premier class As Marc and Alex Marquez join Aleix and Pol Espargaro as brothers competing in MotoGP™ in 2020, this is the first time two sets of brothers have raced together in the premier class since the German GP back in 2015 with Eugene and Michael Laverty and Pol and Aleix Espargaro.

Marc and Alex Marquez racing at Repsol Honda will be the first time that two brothers will race together full time in the same premier class factory team in the history of Grand Prix racing. The last time two brothers raced in the same premier class team was in Catalunya in 2007 with Kenny Roberts Jr. and Kurtis Roberts at Team Roberts.

In addition to the Marquez and Espargaro brothers, some other brothers have competed together full-time in the premier class in the same season: Nobuatsu and in 1999, Nobuatsu and Takuma Aoki in 1997, Bernard and Marc Garcia (1994-1995) and Dominique and (1989).

The last time that brothers finished together on the podium in the premier class was at the Imola GP in 1997, when finished second ahead of Takuma. The only other occasion that brothers have finished together on the podium in the premier class was at the Argentina GP back in 1962, when Juan Salatino finished second ahead of Eduardo.

2020 MotoE™ Grid Six riders have previously won Grands Prix, and they have 43 wins between them; four riders on the full-time entry list have already won in MotoE™.

At the 1998 German GP, qualified on pole in the 125cc class for the first time in his GP career. Aged 15 years 346 days old, he is still the youngest rider to do so in GP racing.

At the 1971 Czech GP, won in 50cc on his debut in the class. Later he won in the 500cc class, becoming the only rider to win in both classes.

July 19th In 2009 at the Sachsenring, Valentino Rossi won the MotoGP™ race to equal as the rider with the most podium finishes in GP racing (159 podium finishes). Rossi now has 234 GP podiums.

At the German GP held at the Sachsenring back in 1998, Mick Doohan took the 50th win of his GP career. This was also the 100th win for the Honda 500cc NSR V4.
