The contributions of Renaissance Italy to learning and to philosophy are perhaps less widely understood, if I am not mistaken. To be sure, the group of natural philosophers of the later sixteenth century, which culminated in Giordano Bruno, has attracted some attention, mainly for their influence on the rise of early science.
