WATERY THINGS (1) Kinnairds Wetland Walk and Talk Wednesday 5th September, 10.30am to ~1pm, Kinnairds Wetland, Numurkah Look and hear what is happening at this wonderful wetland during a walk and talk with members of the Kinnairds Wetland Advisory Committee. The walk is approximately 3km, and please note there are no toilets at the wetland (the closest toilets are located in Numurkah). Meet at the Kinnairds Wetland southern car park, via Kinnairds Road, Numurkah (follow the road around adjacent to the north side of Broken Creek to car park). Bring suitable footwear and clothing, snacks, a hat, drinking water, and if you wish binoculars and a camera. Steve Wilson, Manager of Biodiversity and Land GBCMA, and Wayne Steward from our local Landcare group, will lead you on a ramble around Reedy Swamp. Their local knowledge of the wetland, flora and fauna and the beautiful surrounds will inspire you to return to this special place. At the end of the walk, join us for a barbeque and billy tea. Families are most welcome. This is a FREE event hosted by the Goulburn Murray Landcare Network and BirdLife Murray Goulburn. These surveys help to increase our knowledge of the Striped Legless Lizard, a nationally threatened reptile, and the information collected will help develop better conservation plans for its Grassy Woodland habitat. Join in to learn more about this very special lizard and its habitat. This activity is presented by the Department of Sustainability and Environment and the Goulburn Broken Striped Legless Lizard Project. Meeting place to be confirmed. There is a lot of research happening and a lot of information out there. The turtle is a totem of the Yorta Yorta people. We will have Lee Joachim explain how this all works, and a display of live turtles from the Fresh Water Turtle Conservancy. We will also have an update on the most current research and discussion on how to protect our turtle population.
