"Did we Know" 2 weeks before we discussed about the meaning of the word Qurbana and the Theories of Holy Qurbana Week before last we discussed how Holy Qurbana is structured and focused on the First Part (Ante-) of the Holy Qurbana

Since it is too vast a portion we will cover the entire topic in 4 weeks; this week we will focus on the first 4 parts; As we saw earlier Ante-Communion ends with Prayer of Confession & Absolution; Communion starts with;

Preparation After the Prayer of Confession & Absolution; the Celebrant washes his hands. The washing of hands reminds us that we should be cleansed to stand before God. The Celebrant then bows to the congregation & request their prayers The Celebrant either prostrates or kneels before the & prays Kayyasoori (Malayalam, meaning hand clasp) After the Prayer the Celebrant gets up and shares the Kiss of Peace with other assisting if present as mark of oneness & reconciliation. The Celebrant then steps on the Darga (Altar Step) The Kiss of Peace is passed on to the by the Celebrant who shares it with the assisting if any in order of their seniority and then to the congregation

The Bible reminds us that Judas Iscariot used the Kiss to betray Jesus; and Maundy Thursday leads to Good Friday where we remember the death of our Lord Jesus Christ Anaphora (Greek, meaning 'carrying up'. Ana - means 'up' & phora - means 'to carry') This represents the prayer of Thanksgiving (Luke 22:19) Anaphora is most solemn part of the liturgy where the offering of Bread & Wine are consecrated as the Body & Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ Anaphora begins with liturgical greetings and concludes with the Fourth Blessing It is during the start of Anaphora, immediately after Kayyasoori where Sosappa is removed; the lifting of Sosappa represents the revelation of the mystery for all the members of the worshipping community Rushma (Syriac, meaning to 'Bless') In total there are 4 Rushmas; first 3 Rushma before the Sacred Mysteries are administered to the Congregation and the Final Rushma at the end of the Anaphora before Doxology Immediately after the Kayyasoori is given Anaphora begins with the First Rushma The Celebrant makes the sign of cross on himself, and then he turns 'clock-wise' and makes the sign of cross on the congregation; except for Rushma, all other times when the celebrant faces the congregation he turns 'anti clock-wise'
