THE CITY OF

WORLD HERITAGE SITE Welcome to Bath World Heritage Day 2017 The waters of Bath, both hot and cold, are the very essence of the City. The cultural use of the thermal springs (the only to be classified as ‘hot’ in the UK) has ensured that Bath has been a place of resort, pilgrimage and wonderment across two millennia. The River Avon, carving a dramatic valley through the limestone hills, provides the backdrop for one of the world’s truly beautiful cities. For World Heritage Day this year we use these waters as our theme and inspiration. 2017 marks the 30th anniversary of Bath’s inscription on the World Heritage list and the ever-popular World Heritage Day provides an opportunity to celebrate this, and to enhance appreciation and understanding of our outstanding heritage. This event brings together a range of partners responsible for conserving the City and connects them with the most
