Los Angeles and Centennial, Colo. – November 9, 2010 – The LA Phil and NCM Fathom, the entertainment division of National CineMedia announced today an agreement to present a series of three outstanding programs exclusively in select movie theaters across the U.S., beginning in January and continuing into June of 2011. LA Phil LIVE with Gustavo Dudamel from Walt Disney Concert Hall complements Fathom’s existing arts and cultural programming, offering many communities the opportunity to experience the finest in orchestral performances from the Los Angeles Philharmonic for the first time.

LA Phil LIVE is an immersive sight and sound experience, featuring full concert performances with the LA Phil led by its dynamic Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, broadcast live from the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall. audiences in over 400 theaters across the U.S. will experience up-close and dramatic views of Dudamel and the orchestra in action, captured with multiple high definition cameras and in breathtaking 5.1 digital surround sound. The series of three live Sunday performances has repertoire including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, an all-Tchaikovsky program interspersed with performances by actors reading from related Shakespeare texts and an all-Brahms program.

Sunday, January 9, 2011 – 2 p.m. Pacific / 5 p.m. Eastern LA Phil LIVE: Dudamel conducts Beethoven Dudamel leads a program of passionate, vigorous music by three different composers, each of whom expresses that passion in a highly individual style. The highlight is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 – his ebullient, life-affirming symphony that achieved instant popular acclaim lasting to this day. Also featured is the Stravinsky-inspired Slonimsky’s Earbox, written by acclaimed American composer John Adams (Nixon in China), and Leonard Bernstein’s powerful First Symphony, “Jeremiah,” a profoundly personal account of the Book of Lamentations. Kelley O’Connor (mezzo-soprano) is the soloist.

Sunday, June 5, 2011 – 2 p.m. Pacific / 5 p.m. Eastern LA Phil LIVE: Dudamel conducts Brahms Brahms’ powerful Fourth Symphony – from the tragic first movement to the forceful final movement – proves to be one of the composer’s most dramatic works. The program also includes Brahms’ towering Double Concerto, his final orchestral work, for which Dudamel is joined by dynamic and youthful brothers Renaud and Gautier Capuçon.
