LA Phil LIVE with Gustavo Dudamel from Walt Disney Concert Hall complements Fathom’s existing arts and cultural programming, offering many communities the opportunity to experience the finest in orchestral performances from the Los Angeles Philharmonic for the first time. LA Phil LIVE is an immersive sight and sound experience, featuring full concert performances with the LA Phil led by its dynamic Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, broadcast live from the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall. Movie theater audiences in over 400 theaters across the U.S. will experience up-close and dramatic views of Dudamel and the orchestra in action, captured with multiple high definition cameras and in breathtaking 5.1 digital surround sound. Each broadcast transports audiences behind the music for an insider’s look at the LA Phil via the Backstage Pass feature, which includes: . Live behind-the-scenes interviews with Gustavo Dudamel, soloists and LA Phil musicians . Exclusive behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage as Dudamel and the orchestra prepare for the concert . Live post-concert Q & A with Gustavo Dudamel The series of three live Sunday performances has repertoire including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, an all-Tchaikovsky program interspersed with performances by actors reading from related Shakespeare texts and an all-Brahms program. Tickets for LA Phil LIVE in-theater events are available now at participating theater box offices and online at www.fathomevents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and ticket prices, please visit the website (theaters and participants are subject to change). “These new partnerships are especially significant for us, not only because they allow us to reach an expanded audience of music lovers throughout the U.S., but also because they illustrate two words that the Los Angeles Philharmonic embodies – innovation and excellence,” said LA Phil President and CEO Deborah Borda. “We pride ourselves on being an organization that stays ahead of the curve – that is our tradition and we are so pleased to be able to continue to do so with colleagues of this caliber.” Acclaimed worldwide as one of the most exciting and compelling conductors today, Dudamel began his tenure as Music Director of the LA Phil in fall 2009. His infectious energy and exceptional artistry have made him one of the most sought-after conductors by orchestras and opera companies around the world. “LA Phil LIVE will give an amazing opportunity to many people who do not normally have the chance to see us live. There will be an incredible energy between the musicians on the stage, the people in Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the audiences in the theaters, sharing the same experience of enjoying the music,” said LA Phil Music Director Gustavo Dudamel. The 2011 LA Phil LIVE series schedule* is as follows: Sunday, January 9, 2011 – 2 p.m. Pacific / 5 p.m. Eastern LA Phil LIVE: Dudamel conducts Beethoven Dudamel leads a program of passionate, vigorous music by three different composers, each of whom expresses that passion in a highly individual style. The highlight is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 – his ebullient, life-affirming symphony that achieved instant popular acclaim lasting to this day. Also featured is the Stravinsky-inspired Slonimsky’s Earbox, written by acclaimed American composer John Adams (Nixon in China), and Leonard Bernstein’s powerful First Symphony, “Jeremiah,” a profoundly personal account of the Book of Lamentations. Kelley O’Connor (mezzo-soprano) is the soloist. Interspersed between these powerful symphonic poems will be readings from the Bard’s immortal works by a cast of leading actors. All-Tchaikovsky program including: - Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture - Hamlet Fantasy Overture - The Tempest Fantasy Overture Sunday, June 5, 2011 – 2 p.m. Pacific / 5 p.m. Eastern LA Phil LIVE: Dudamel conducts Brahms Brahms’ powerful Fourth Symphony – from the tragic first movement to the forceful final movement – proves to be one of the composer’s most dramatic works. The program also includes Brahms’ towering Double Concerto, his final orchestral work, for which Dudamel is joined by dynamic and youthful brothers Renaud and Gautier Capuçon. BRAHMS: Concerto For Violin, Cello And Orchestra In A Minor, Op. 102 BRAHMS: Symphony No. 4 *Programs and casting subject to change. “LA Phil LIVE will provide a unique opportunity for audiences to learn more about great orchestral works as well as the music-making process, while gaining exhilarating insights into Dudamel’s background, his relationship with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and his enduring dedication to youth music education,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of NCM Fathom. “LA Phil LIVE is certainly a series music lovers of all ages must see.” LA Phil Live will be shown in more than 400 select movie theaters including AMC Entertainment Inc., Celebration!
