Crown Life December 2019 Dear Parents/Carers and Guardians Christmas Cabaret Wow! FABULOUS! As we come to the end of term 1, 2019 I reflect on what has been a hugely successful term. SCWA. We have also had a strong focus on pedagogical practice with CPD training on Retrieval Practice, Direct Instruction, the Effective Sequence of Learning, Questioning, Modelling and Assessment all with a view of improving the learning experience of our pupils. This research based, evidence informed practice also concentrates on a pupil’s ability to remember or retain information. A critical skill when one is trying to remember five hours of academic content each day. This term has also been witness to some fantastic events. With the support of the Stationers’ Company, SCWA hosted a business engagement event where a number of industry experts offered pupils an opportunity to talk about their experiences and routes into their professions. We have hosted mentoring events where Sixth Form students got the chance to link with a business mentor who will support them through the later stages of their educational career and, hopefully, into the next stage of their lives. Successes, this term, also include the SCWA swimming team as we competed in the inaugural LAT swimming gala. SCWA were victorious in the girls event overcoming challenges from all other LAT academies. Our boys performed extremely well, however, a depleted year 11 squad meant that we dropped two places to come third overall. We ended the term with the showstopper that was ‘Christmas Cabaret’. The efforts displayed by staff and students to make the evening such a success was amazing. A, truly, inspiring way to end a very successful term. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and stakeholders for their ongoing and continued support for the work undertaken at SCWA. Have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
