An Invitation to Join the Edward and Mary Lucretia Creighton Society

Creighton was founded in 1878 through a generous estate gift from Mary Lucretia Creighton, who wished to establish a school in her husband Edward’s name. Edward and Mary Lucretia, philanthropic leaders in the Omaha community, were passionate about higher education. With no children of their own, Mary Lucretia knew a college in her husband’s name was the most appropriate way to honor him. Thus, the students of Creighton College, now Creighton University, became the Creightons’ legacy.

The Edward and Mary Lucretia Creighton Society,Creighton University’s premier donor recognition society, honors the foundation built by Edward and Mary Lucretia. Creighton Society leadership donors contribute annual gifts of $1,000 or more, ensuring that Creighton University remains a leader in providing the highest quality Catholic, Jesuit education to her students. Gifts at the Creighton Society level strengthen Creighton’s mission through support for:

Creighton University’s area of greatest need, which allows the University to invest in people, programs and facilities that foster the spiritual, intellectual, social and recreational development of our students in the Jesuit spirit of cura personalis.

Scholarships for our students who would otherwise be unable to afford a Creighton education and who are now on a path for professional distinction, ethical leadership and involved citizenship.

Faculty development programs that enhance teaching and contribute to the expansion of general knowledge and the betterment of the global society.

Creighton’s nine colleges and schools, giving our deans the flexibility to enhance their individual programs and support the important work being done by their faculty, staff and students by funding innovative academic initiatives.

Lannon, S.J., we hope to honor Edward and Mary Lucretia’s legacy with a goal of 1,878 donors at the Creighton Society level, signifying Creighton’s founding year, 1878.
