y Theo' . The Princeton Seminary Bulletin Published Quarterly by the Trustees of the Theological Seminary of the Presbyterian Church Entered as second class matter. May 1, 1907 at the post office at Princeton, N. J ., under the Act of Congress of July 16, 1894. Vol. XVn PRINCETON, N. J., November 1923 No. 3 The Seminary opened happily for its One Hundred and Twelfth Session with the registration of students on September 25th. On the following day the stu- dents, Faculty and friends assembled in Miller Chapel for the opening exercises of the Seminary. The Faculty were all present, except Professor Robert Dick Wilson, D.D., who was delayed for several days because he was on the steamer just leaving dock at Yokohoma at the moment of the earthquake, and Professor Caspar Wistar Hodge, Ph.D., who has been given a leave of absence for a year because not yet fully recovered from his illness. The student body filled the chapel, its total number being two hundred and sixteen against two hundred and fifteen the year before. The Junior Class numbers seventy-two. This is the largest enrollment and the largest Junior Class the Seminary has had since 1898. The opening address was given by the Rev. James M. Black, M.A., Minister of St. George’s United Free Church, Edinburgh, Scotland. His subject was “The Present-Day Task of Preaching.” Some changes have been made in the Seminary course. On account of the ill- ness of Dr. Hodge, in addition to their other work, Professor John D. Davis, D.D., is instructing the Seniors, and Professor Frederick W.

Seventh-day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine: The U-turn in Doctrine and Practice Colin D. Standish The words of Paul to the Galatian believers could well apply to the Seventh-day Adventist believers of the latter part of the twentieth century: I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:6–8) Time alone can determine the magnitude of an historical event. Fifty years have provided sufficient time to permit historians and Bible scholars to evaluate the enormity of the impact of the publication of Seventh-day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine ( QOD )1 upon the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The availability of QOD in Australia in 1957 was met by me with enthusiastic anticipation. 2 Yet I was dismayed and confused as I took precious time from my full-time teaching load and full-time university studies, to read this book. 3 My perplexity began with the early pages of the book. I believed the authors were guilty of understating the God-given role of Ellen White. 4 Yet subsequently I found few who expressed concerns in regard to the QOD authors’ treatment of the role of Ellen White’s ministry. Further reading was encouraging until I read the section addressing the atonement.

  • The Forefather and Patriarch You Thought You Knew
The Forefather and Patriarch You Thought You Knew. LOS ANGELES, CA (EPP) - Brian Godawa, the award-winning screenwriter of To End All Wars, began a new saga of Biblical fantasy novels with his release of Noah Primeval to phenomenally positive reviews across the internet and on Amazon. The fourth book in the saga Chronicles of the Nephilim is now available in paperback and on Kindle: Abraham Allegiant. After the Great Flood, the giant king Nimrod builds the Tower of Babel and unites the world in rebellion against the Creator. He seeks to achieve godhood as world potentate and bring in the pantheon of gods to rule with him. But Yahweh has other plans. He causes the confusion of languages and disperses Nimrod's kingdom to the four corners of the earth, allotting the nations under the authority of pagan deities. He then chooses a simple nomad Abram as next in the line of the seed of Promise. But Nimrod is not dead. He sets out on a course of revenge to find Abram and kill him in order to thwart Yahweh's plan of creating a people for his own inheritance. As his quest drives him deeper into madness, the stakes rise; for the land which Abram discovers he is being given is Canaan, where the goddess Ashtart is carrying out her own plans of breeding the seed of the Serpent. The War of the Seed is rising. Chronicles of the Nephilim is written in the mythic genre of The Lord of the Rings and Narnia, blending fantasy and mythopoeia with history to retell the Biblical narrative with a fresh perspective, while staying true to the original spirit of the story.

  • Calvinism & the Bible
Calvinism & the Bible By Brian Godawa Okay, so we all hate categories and boxes. Those of us who believe in the Bible often fancy ourselves above “all those systematic theologies and creeds.” We just believe in the Bible and that's that. Unfortunately, the belief that we do not have a creed is itself a creed about creeds, because “creed” simply means, set of beliefs. You can't escape it. Everyone has a creed, some are just smarter and humbler in recognizing it. We are fooling ourselves if we think we have no “system” of beliefs when it comes to the Bible. The fact is, many smarter men and women have gone before us who believed what we believe, only they were smarter in carrying out those beliefs to a fuller and systematic conclusion. So when a system is called something, whether Pentecostalism, Dispensationalism, Covenantalism or any other “ism” this is simply a designation for that consistently worked out system. Whether we like it or not, our beliefs will always be able to be categorized into some kind of system. So there are no so-called, Simple Bible Believers. There are however, simple- minded Bible believers who do not recognize their own box or system that they fall into. Let us lay aside our arrogance and recognize that EVERYONE claims their belief system is THE Biblical system, including us, and if we are humble enough to research we will find that others have gone before us who had our same beliefs but worked them out better than us. And thus we arrive at Calvinism.
