Who is determining who can get a COVID-19 vaccine and when? a. The Government of Canada is responsible for approval and procurement of COVID- 19 vaccine supply. The Government of Ontario is responsible for the distribution of these vaccines across the province. The Ethical Framework for COVID-19 vaccine distribution guides how the provincial government prioritizes and distributes vaccines across Ontario. The City’s Emergency Operations Centre and Ottawa Public Health are doing everything possible to ensure Ottawa residents who want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine will be able to access it as quickly and efficiently as possible, dependent on vaccine supply and in alignment with the provincial framework. The total amount of vaccines that will be distributed to the City of Ottawa and precise delivery dates are not yet known. These decisions are made by the Province and subject to vaccine procurement from the federal government. (*Updated) a. The following groups are currently eligible to book an appointment to receive a COVID-19 vaccine: ▪ Residents who were born in or before 1941, or who are adult recipients of chronic home care, and who live in the following communities are eligible to book an appointment to receive their vaccine through a pop-up clinic: o Emerald Woods o Hawthorne Meadows o Heatherington o Hunt Club East – Western o Ledbury Community o Heron Gate o Hunt Club Park o Ridgemont o Lowertown o Riverview o Manor Park o Sawmill Creek o Overbrook-McArthur o Bayshore-Belltown o Parkwood Hills o Carson Grove-Carson o Sheffield Glen Meadows o Stewart Farm o Greenboro East o Vanier North o Vanier South ▪ Residents 90 and older (born in or before 1931) living anywhere in Ottawa are able to book an appointment to receive their vaccine at the Nepean Sportsplex community clinic. ▪ First Nation, Inuit and Métis community members who are aged 50 and older. Updated March 12, 2021 Page 3 of 13 COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution FAQs (V6) Emergency Operations Centre Patient-facing health care workers classified as “very high priority” (which includes most community-based doctors, dentists, nurse practitioners, midwives and physiotherapists) are able to visit OttawaPublicHealth.ca to pre-register for a vaccination appointment. A definition of who is an eligible patient-facing “very high priority” health care worker is available through the Province of Ontario. Please help us keep phone lines open for those who are eligible to receive a vaccine - please do not call the booking line to pre-register. To confirm that you are eligible for vaccination, please visit Ottawa Public Health’s COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Screening Tool. Only residents who meet the criteria will be vaccinated. 3. What is the vaccination process for Indigenous individuals? (*Updated) a. First Nation, Inuit and Métis community members who are aged 50 and older are currently eligible for vaccination. Akausivik Inuit Family Health Team is providing vaccinations for Inuit. To book an appointment or for more information, call 613-740- 0999. Ottawa Public Health is partnering with Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health to provide a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for First Nation, Inuit and Métis community members aged 50+ at St-Laurent Complex located at 525 Côté Street. Call Ottawa Public Health at 613-691-5505 to book an appointment. You will be asked to provide proof of Indigenous identity/status.     Tell us about it: Children’s expressive narratives about Head Start by Alan Gregory Hay A Thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Psychology Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario © 2017 Alan Gregory Hay 2 Children’s Narratives about Head Start Abstract The present study aims to examine children’s experiences in childcare programs that serve at-risk populations in the city of Ottawa. To achieve this goal, we engaged children in art-based activities and conversations about their own experiences at childcare. Twelve childcare centres agreed to participate in this study: ten municipally funded Head Start programs and two not-for-profit programs. This study employed art- based methods to involve children in semi-structured discussions about childcare. Interviews were accompanied by artistic activities. Through thematic analysis, we found that children shared stories of important experiences, their daily lives, and activities they enjoy most. Children highlighted play and friends as some of the most important experiences. Additionally, themes of nature, animals, physical activity, reading and writing were commonly discussed. This study demonstrated that children are capable of identifying experiences in their lives that are important to them. 3 Children’s Narratives about Head Start Acknowledgements This project and my work has been supported by so many caring, passionate people throughout the past few years and I wanted to take a moment to give thanks to all those involved. Mooney’s Bay Hill Norberry Residences I am pleased to report that City Council unanimously approved my motion on Feb. 11 directing Parks and On February 19 I met with Norberry’s planner and apartment administrator as well as the construction manager and vice- Recreation staff to assess the safety issues associated president of development at Great Wise Developments with tobogganing at Mooney’s Bay Hill and identify about their plans to construct three low-rise apartment options to assist in mitigating risks in order to allow buildings. The site plan for the project was approved in tobogganing on site. The hill was closed to sledding on December and is now in the process of being formally Jan. 21 due to excessive crowds. The hill poses a number registered. A virtual public information session is tentatively of safety issues in the winter that were identified through scheduled for late April. This will give the community some a safety audit in 2017. It was then removed from the time to digest the construction plans and provide input to me City’s list of sanctioned toboggan hills. I will report back before the work begins. I will work closely with the Norberry once staff complete their review of the hill. Residences to ensure current users of the covered parking garage will be accommodated during the transition period, Mooney’s Bay Park which will include the garage teardown and rebuild.

  • Infrastructure Improvements in Six Ottawa Neighbourhoods
    Infrastructure improvements in six Ottawa neighbourhoods Since 2015, we have been working with residents in six lower-income neighbourhoods to identify improvements needed to make them better places for pedestrians, cyclists and public transit riders. This has involved door-to-door outreach, sharing circles, active transportation audits, the formation of resident-led working groups, dot-mocracy to prioritize the top needed improvements, and pop-up projects intended to demonstrate how the neighbourhood would improve if the needed improvement were implemented. As a follow up to all these activities, we have then worked with the local city councillor to seek their support, and the support of the City, to make the improvements permanent. Bayshore: residents indicated two main priorities: i) the need for a better pathway connection from the community to the nearby Trans Canada Trail; and ii) their desire for a safe pedestrian crossing on Woodridge Crescent north of the Bayshore Transitway Station. We worked with the property owner, Ferguslea, to have them pave and widen the pathway connection to the TransCanada Trail so that it avoids two large dumpsters. And, we worked with the City, including the local City Councillor Mark Taylor, and residents to hold a pedestrian crosswalk pop-up project in September 2018. By attending consultations related to pedestrian and cycling connectivity to Phase 2 of the City’s Light Rail Transit Project, we were able to secure a commitment from the City that it will provide a safe pedestrian crossing at the location by the time Light Rail Transit starts operating at Bayshore. We know the pop-up project demonstrated the need for the safe pedestrian crossing to be implemented more quickly than that.
