This "Great Mansion" was built three centuries ago, by Robert vVynne, son of John Wynne, ap Meredith, of Gwydir near , of whom the well-known historian, Sir ] ohn \,Vynne, Bart., was ne phew. The approach in H igh Street is through a portico ornamented wi th the arms of E ngland. Over the doorway and within the portico is the Greek inscription '' anexou, apexou," wit h the Lalin "sus­ tine, abstine," (bear, fo rbear). On the house will also be found the initials I. H . S. X. P. S., with the date, r 585. Ascending from t he courtyard is a flight of steps to <'. terrace which leads through a doorway to a spacious Banqueting- Hall, wainscoted a nd with fixed seats. From the Tower staircase out of this room is a passage le~1ding to the Kitchen with a fine old arched fireplace.
