At Barber Motorsports Park, Nico Jamin and Aaron Telitz each picked up a victory in USF2000, Spencer Pigot took the checkered in both IndyLights races and Josef Newgarden won the Verizon IndyCar Series race. At Long Beach, Ricky and Jordan Taylor were victorious in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. In most cases, 'permanent' is synonymous with 'purpose-built'. However, some circuits were not purpose-built but actually started out as tempo- rary courses. Florida's Sebring International Raceway, for example, was originally a temporary airfield course, laid out over the runways of Hendricks Field. Likewise, Portland International Raceway in Oregon evolved from a street course. Both circuits are nowadays permanent facilities. The starting point for this list was the 2003 edition of Allan Brown's book "A History of America's Speedways: Past & Present". This is an indispensable reference work for which Allan cannot be praised enough. However, in the book the road courses are a bit buried between the vast number of ovals. Listing them separately gives a better overview. Also, I found the information in the book is not always accurate. It is an excellent basis for further research but the data should be treated with great care. I have done my best to present the most correct and accurate info in this file, although there may well be errors here and there. In general, there are three main types of American road courses. The most interesting are the 'pure' road courses which were built specifically for road racing.

    HONDA INDY GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA TO TAKE PLACE APRIL 5-7, 2019 INDYCAR ANNOUNCES 17-RACE SCHEDULE (Sept. 4, 2018) – INDYCAR released its 2019 schedule today featuring 17 events, a newly announced race and a new event finale. A focal point for INDYCAR has been maintaining date equity with racetracks. The 2019 IndyCar Series schedule accomplishes that with a pair of minor exceptions for good reason: • Barber Motorsports Park’s event shifts two weeks forward to Sunday, April 7. That early April date was the slot that the scenic permanent road course in Birmingham, Alabama, held on the schedule for the first four years of its nine-year run to date; • Iowa Speedway returns to a night race at the overwhelming request of fans on Saturday, July 20. It moves back on the calendar by two weeks. Next year’s IndyCar Series race will be the 13th on the bullring oval in Newton, Iowa.
