Dear Families and Friends of Guardian Angels Parish, Vocations—Called to Serve

In this week's First Reading, we begin with an unusual image of a shoot sprouting from a stump. You can almost close your eyes and see it. Faith Formation

Children’s Faith Formation Religious Ed - A Different Perspective

One of the blessings I have had as being the new deacon in the parish has been the opportunity to be available to observe and help with the Religious Education program at Guardian Angels. Prior to my ordination I had helped do a lot of Religious Education classes including 2nd grade preparation for Reconciliation and Eucharist, Confirmation RCIT preparation, RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation for Children), Sunday’s 5:00pm to 6:00pm and several other ministries. One of the 3 main ministries of a deacon is called 'munus docendi'. That basically means December 8th I have the responsibility to proclaim the Gospel and to instruct and exhort (encourage) the people. Working with The Saints with Deacon Tim the parish Religious Education program gives me an December 15th opportunity to do this in a unique way. The Incarnation and Mary with Deacon Tim. Since I'm not an official teacher for a specific class, I have nd th had the opportunity to stop by and visit most of the December 22 and 29 classes. Sometimes I come in only to see what the teachers NO CLASS are reviewing with the class. Other times I have the opportunity to come in and ask a few questions of the Begin reading 7 Secrets of the Eucharist students to see how they are doing. And still other times, I visit the class and give them the opportunity to ask me questions. This can either be on the topic of the class or on a topic that is of interest to them. It's a beautiful thing to be able to see how the different classes are taking their steps in faith. The younger students are so eager to learn about Jesus and his great love for us and the older students who have learned these fundamental things are stretching to see how their faith is relevant to their lives and the world that is unfolding around them. They always have good Sunday’s 6:00pm to 7:30pm answers and I really love the questions that I get Youth Director: Regina Hubbard [email protected] asked. The both show a desire to figure things out and to th try and put the whole image of God together. December 8

The hope is that they can use what they have learned about the Mass so No Youth Group! that they can use it to enter more deeply into the Mass. I've been very blessed to be able to work with the teachers and the children. There is a lot of time still left in this year, Our next Youth Mass is January 5th and my plan is to continue to visit the classes to help The youth would like to invite everyone to contribute a little something extra to what they are Pray the Rosary beginning at 6pm, followed learning. The teachers are doing very well with their classes by Youth Mass. and I appreciate their patience when I stop in for a few minutes. As I'm moving between classes, I've been fortunate to see several teen volunteers who help out. They are really wonderful young people, and it's good to see them volunteering to help take care of the little ones. I've also had an opportunity to meet many of the and grandparents who are there just before class starts and around the time that class ends. While there is always much to do, I've greatly enjoyed the opportunity to serve the parish on these evenings in a unique way. It definitely allows me the chance to see the beauty of God's plan for the Church in action. Deacon Tim
