Had three separate stints at Metalist Kharkiv between 1996 and 2005, and also took CSKA Kyiv to the Ukrainian Cup final, only to fall to FC Shakhtar Donetsk. • Spells at Tavriya Simferopol and Russian side Salyut Belgorod followed, before he was called upon by the national federation to take permanent control of Ukraine after Oleh Blokhin stepped down following UEFA EURO 2012. Kozák also travelled to the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain but did not feature due to injury. • Won the Czechoslovak Cup three times and the 1982 league championship with Dukla before retiring in 1990. Moved into coaching several years later and proved an instant success, steering 1. FC Košice to successive titles (1997, 1998) and into the 1997/98 UEFA Champions League where, as Slovakia's first ever group stage representative, they lost all six games in a section containing Feyenoord, Juventus and Manchester United FC. • Left Košice in 1998 but came back for further stints in 2005 and 2012. He stood down in summer 2013, succeeding Stanislav Griga and Michal Hipp as coach of Slovakia on a two-year contract. • His son Ján Kozák Jr played in the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League group stage for MFK Petržalka, equalising and then creating the winner in a famous 3-2 comeback victory over FC Porto; grandson Filip Lesniak has been at Tottenham Hotspur FC since 2012. 2 Ukraine - Slovakia Monday 8 September 2014 - 20.45CET (21.45 local time) Match press kit NSK Olimpiyskyi, Kyiv Legend :: Previous meetings Goals for/against: Goal totals include the outcome of disciplinary decisions (e.g. match forfeits when a 3-0 result is determined). Records of inactive countries A number of UEFA associations have been affected by dissolution or splits of member associations. For statistical purposes, the records of these inactive countries have been allocated elsewhere: therefore, all Soviet Union matches are awarded to Russia; all West Germany – but not East Germany – matches are awarded to Germany; all Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro matches are awarded to Serbia; all Czechoslovakia matches are allocated to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Abandoned/forfeited matches For statisical purposes, when a match has been started and then abandoned but later forfeited, the result on the pitch at the time of abandonment is counted. Matches that never started and were either cancelled or forfeited are not included in the overall statistics. • A Turbulent Year for Ukraine Urbulent Was the Way to Describe 2009 for Ukraine, Which Plunged Into Financial Crisis
No. 3 THE UKRAINIAN WEEKLY SUNDAY, JANUARY 17, 2010 5 2009: THE YEAR IN REVIEW A turbulent year for Ukraine urbulent was the way to describe 2009 for Ukraine, which plunged into financial crisis. No other European country suffered as much as TUkraine, whose currency was devalued by more than 60 percent since its peak of 4.95 hrv per $1 in August 2008. In addition, the country’s industrial production fell by 31 percent in 2009. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko con- fronted the challenge of minimizing the crisis fallout, while at the same time campaigning for the 2010 presi- dential elections. Her critics attacked her for pursuing populist policies, such as increasing wages and hiring more government staff, when the state treasury was broke as early as the spring. Ms. Tymoshenko herself admitted that her gov- ernment would not have been able to make all its pay- ments without the help of three tranches of loans, worth approximately $10.6 billion, provided by the International Monetary Fund. Her critics believe that instead of borrowing money, Ms. Tymoshenko should have been introducing radical reforms to the Ukrainian economy, reducing government waste, eliminating out- dated Soviet-era benefits and trimming the bureaucracy. The year began with what is becoming an annual tra- Offi cial Website of Ukraine’s President dition in Ukraine – a natural gas conflict provoked by the government of Russian Federation Prime Minister President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko at the heated February 10 meeting of Vladimir Putin. Whereas the New Year’s Day crisis of the National Security and Defense Council.

  • FC Shakhtar Annual Report Season 2009|10
www.shakhtar.com FC Shakhtar Annual Report season 2009|10 The season 2009/2010 turned out to be interesting and eventful. I think the fans will remember it for many years to come. WE HAVE CONSTRUCTED DONBASS ARENA – THE STADIUM IS OF A HIGH EUROPEAN STANDARD. IT MEETS THE AIMS AND AMBITIONS OF OUR CLUB. Donbass Arena was constructed for Shakhtar to play there and for the spectators to eagerly come and support their team. I think we managed to achieve this. Before the opening of Donbass Arena I had supposed that 30–35 thousand spectators were a real number for an ordinary game of the Ukrainian Championship. The first year of the stadium’s operation proved it. Shakhtar won the gold medals of 2009/2010 Ukrainian Championship. It is the fifth champion’s title of our team. This time Shakhtar starts the most prestigious European club tournament from the group stage. The Club’s management and fans are looking forward to the successful performance of our team. I’d also like to say that we are very grateful to the head coach, Mircea Lucescu, for the team he’s created. Over the last 6 years, we’ve won 4 championship titles, the UEFA Cup, and we are showing spectacular football of high European standard. Today we all believe in our team and this means for We BELIEVE in our team us a lot more than just words. with our whole HEARTS We believe in our team with our whole hearts and know, whoever our team plays against, we may expect victory.
