SZIJART6 Relatives and Miles A Regional Approach to the Social Relations of the Lesser Nobility in the County of Somogy in the Eighteenth Century ABSTRACT Through seven socio-economic criteria the author establishes three characteristic Ievels of the lesser nobility of Co. Somogy in the eighteenth century, than takes samples consisting of three families from them. The analysis is based on the assumption that the geographical extent of social relations is rejlected by the network of places where these families brought their wivesfrom or married offtheir daughters to. Theconclusion of this regional approach to the social relations ofthe lesser nobility is that the typical geographical sphere of life was the narrow neighbourhood of their village for the petty nobility, while for the well-to-dogentry it was approximately the county and for the wealthy andinjluential leading families it was a larger geographical unit. While at the time of its foundation in the early eleventh century the system of counties (comitatus, wirmegye) in the kingdom of Hungary was a bulwark of royal power, from the end of the thirteenth century it had been gradually transformed into the organ of the local self-government of the nobility. In the eighteenth century the nobility exercised the bul.k of administration, certain judicial and local legislative power througb the organization of the county. The head of the county was thefoispdn (supremus comes) appointed by the king, usually a lay or ecclesiastical lord absent from the county, while the actual self-go vernment of the county was directcd by the elected alispdn (vicecomes). -

The constitutional status of the judiciary is underpinned by its origins in the royal prerogative and its legal relationship with the Crown, dating from the medieval period when the prerogatives were exercised by the monarch personally. By virtue of the prerogative the monarch is the source and fountain of justice, and all jurisdiction is derived from her1. Hence, in legal contemplation, the Sovereign's Majesty is deemed always to be present in court2 and, by the terms of the coronation oath and by the maxims of the common law, as also by the ancient charters and statutes confirming the liberties of the subject, the monarch is bound to cause law and justice in mercy to be administered in all judgments3. Short Title.- These rules may be called the Government of India (Transaction of Business) Rules, 1961. 2. Definition.- In these rules, "department" means any of the Ministries, Departments, Secretariats and Offices specified in the First Schedule to the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961. 3. Disposal of Business by Ministries.- Subject to the provisions of these Rules in regard to consultation with other departments and submission of cases to the Prime Minister, the Cabinet and its Committees and the President, all business allotted to a department under the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, shall be disposed of by, or under the general or special directions of, the Minister-in-charge. 4. Inter-Departmental Consultations.- (1) When the subject of a case concerns more than one department, no decision be taken or order issued until all such departments have concurred, or, failing such concurrence, a decision thereon has been taken by or under the authority of the Cabinet. Explanation- Every case in which a decision, if taken in one Department, is likely to affect the transaction of business allotted to another department, shall be deemed to be a case the subject of which concerns more than one department. -

| 73 The lower nobility in the Kingdom of Bohemia in the early 15 th century, based on the example of Jan Sádlo of Smilkov Silvie Van ēurova Preliminary communication UDK 177.6:32>(437.3)“14“ Abstract During the Hussite revolution, the lower nobility became an important, complex and powerful political force and exerted considerable influence over the Czech Kingdom. The life of Jan Sádlo of Smilkov is used as an example of a lower nobleman who, due to the political situation, was able to become an influential person and become involved in political developments prior to the revolution and in the revolution’s first year. The story of his life offers some possible interpretations of the events that may have impacted the lower nobility’s life at the beginning of 15 th century. Keywords : Lower nobility, Jan Sádlo of Smilkov, pre-Hussite period, Deeds of Complaint, Hussite revolution In the pre-Hussite period, the lower nobility represented a largely heterogeneous and also quite numerous class of medieval society. The influence of this social group on the growing crisis in the pre-Hussite period, its very involvement in the revolution and its in many regards not inconsiderable role during the Hussite Wars have been explored by several generations of historians thus far (Hole ēek 1979, 83-106; Polívka 1982b, Mezník 1987; Pla ēek 2008, Grant 2015). Yet new, unexplored issues still arise regarding the lower nobility’s property (Polívka 1978: 261-272, Jurok 2000: 63-64, Šmahel 2001: 230-242), its local position (Petrá Ÿ 1994: Mezník 1999: 129-137, 362-375; Mlate ēek 2004) and continuity, as well as kinship ties (Mlate ēek 2014) and its involvement in politics. -

From The Sunday Times May 1, 2005 Blair planned Iraq war from start Michael Smith INSIDE Downing Street Tony Blair had gathered some of his senior ministers and advisers for a pivotal meeting in the build-up to the Iraq war. It was 9am on July 23, 2002, eight months before the invasion began and long before the public was told war was inevitable. The discussion that morning was highly confidential. As minutes of the proceedings, headed “Secret and strictly personal — UK eyes only”, state: “This record is extremely sensitive. No further copies should be made. It should be shown only to those with a genuine need to know its contents.” In the room were the prime minister, Jack Straw, the foreign secretary, Geoff Hoon, the defence secretary, Lord Goldsmith, the attorney-general, and military and intelligence chiefs. Also listed on the minutes are Alastair Campbell, then Blair’s director of strategy, Jonathan Powell, his chief of staff, and Sally Morgan, director of government relations. What they were about to discuss would dominate the political agenda for years to come and indelibly stain Blair’s reputation; and last week the issue exploded again on the political scene as Blair campaigned in the hope of winning a third term as prime minister. For the secret documents — seen by The Sunday Times — reveal that on that Tuesday in 2002: Blair was right from the outset committed to supporting US plans for “regime change” in Iraq.
