Here’s to reaching all the places we’ve never been. Fly Emirates to 6 continents. EDITORIAL Celebrating the best Dear friends of football, The year 2013 has only just got under way, but already we have celebrated the fi rst highlight of the year, with the successful staging of the latest FIFA Ballon d’Or gala in Zurich providing an uplifting start to what promises to be a very exciting year. In an age when newspapers and other media are frequently fi lled with negative stories, we should cherish the fact that, in the world of sport at least, there is still a desire to celebrate positive achievements and praise those players who have excelled beyond even the expectations of their peers. That has certainly been the case for Lionel Messi, who has further cemented his reputation as one of the best players of all time after winning the FIFA Ballon d’Or for an unprecedented fourth year running. As Messi himself reminded the gala guests, however, individual achievements are only possible in football with the support of your team “The latest FIFA Ballon and it was fi tting that strong team efforts were also refl ected among the d’Or gala provided an the night’s other sporting awards – with Spain coach Vicente del Bosque picking up the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Men’s Football award in uplifting start to what recognition of his side’s EURO 2012 triumph, and USA striker Abby Wambach and former head coach Pia Sundhage winning the FIFA Women’s World promises to be a very Player of the Year and FIFA World Coach of the Year for Women’s Football awards, following on from the Americans’ victory in last year’s Women’s exciting year” Olympic Football Tournament. As well as highlighting spectacular feats – such as the stunning goal that earned Miroslav Stoch this year’s FIFA Puskás Award – the gala also gave us the chance to honour those who have upheld our game’s most important values. The bestowal of the FIFA Fair Play Award on the Uzbekistan Football Federation for the exemplary conduct of its teams in 2012 was just such a moment. I was similarly delighted to hand this year’s FIFA Presidential Award to Franz Beckenbauer – a man who has put his heart and soul into football during a remarkable career that has seen him excel as a player, as a coach and as an administrator. With the awards ceremony over for another year, we can now look forward to seeing which stars will shine brightest in 2013 – a year which will also be very important for all of us at FIFA. As always, there are plenty of competitions to look forward to. An obvious highlight will be Brazil’s staging of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013, with the traditional curtain-opener to next year’s FIFA World Cup™ involving no fewer than four former world champions for the fi rst time in its history. The Confederations Cup is just one of six senior and youth tournaments taking place during the next 12 months, however, with Morocco’s hosting of the fi rst FIFA Club World Cup on African soil and Tahiti’s staging of the fi rst Beach Soccer World Cup in Oceania among other “fi rsts”. We can also look forward to more stars of the future emerging on to the scene at the FIFA U-20 and U-17 World Cups in Turkey and the UAE respectively. It only remains for me to wish all FIFA World readers success in achieving whatever goals you have set for yourselves in the coming year. For the Game. For the World. Joseph S. • Futsal Rules
FUTSAL GUIDE INTRODUCTION TO FUTSAL FUTSAL was first played in 1885. Roger Grain in Montevideo, Uruguay defined the modern standard set of rules in 1932. FUTSAL’s essential elements consist of five players a side on a basketball size court with a variety of surfaces using a no-bounce ball. The sport is a great skill developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking, and pinpoint passing. The no-bounce ball requires players to propel the ball using skill and the proper technique, rather than rely on the bounce of the ball. The priority in FUTSAL is to motivate players in a safe environment conducive to learning. The more pleasure kids derive from their participation, the more they wish to play and practice on their own. While their instinct to play is natural, their affection and appreciation for FUTSAL must be cultivated. FUTSAL is a great developer of such skills as: x Stop and go x Ball control x Quick feet x Dribbling x Shooting skill and power x Strategy and tactics x Individual and team play x Fair play FUTSAL: x Allows players numerous opportunities to frequently touch the one "toy" on the field, namely, the ball. x Presents many opportunities to score goals and score goals often. x Encourages regaining possession of the ball as a productive, fun and rewarding part of the game (defending). x Maximizes active participation and minimizes inactivity and boredom. x Eliminates complicated rules such as offsides that may hinder youngsters from "playing" and learning. x Allows the game to be the teacher! In Latin America and many countries in Europe, FUTSAL is second only to soccer as the most played sport.

  • Legacy Plan 1 Introduction
LEGACY PLAN 1 INTRODUCTION In 2021, Lithuania will host the biggest sports event in the country’s history – the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021™. The three host cities, Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda, will welcome the best futsal national teams in the world. Hosting such an event will have a significant impact on Lithuanian futsal, the host cities and the country itself. 2 PURPOSE The legacy plan will help to identify and predict the impact that the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 will have on futsal in the country and on Lithuania’s profile in international sport. The aim is to leave a legacy for futsal in Lithuania, and to grow professionalism in the sport and the rate of participation. 3 CURRENT SITUATION Futsal in Lithuania is currently semi-professional. A total of ten teams participated in the futsal A league in 2019/2020. The Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) also organises the LFF Futsal Cup, in which a minimum of 14 futsal teams participate each year. Looking at children’s participation, 210 girls’ teams (2,000 girls) and 283 boys’ teams (2,750 boys) participated across various grassroots futsal competitions in the 2019/2020 season. Research conducted by Kantar in 2019 showed that a third of respondents (30%) are aware of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 being held in the country. There is an opportunity for this event to bring new fans to futsal, especially as Lithuania will be competing in a Futsal World Cup or FIFA event for the very first time. 4 VISION Our legacy plan is based on the goal to present the tournament as the greatest achievement in the history of Lithuanian football and as a unique opportunity for Lithuanians to experience world-class futsal live.

  • Sports India and World
SPORTS INDIA AND WORLD World Cup Cricket History The idea of organising a World Cup of cricket was mooted and agreed to in principle in 1971 when such a proposal was discussed at a meeting of the International Cricket Conference in London. However, due to various commitments the tournaments could not be staged until 1975 when the original plan of a South African team's visit to England fell through following opposition to the country's racial policy. England's Prudential Assurance Company came forward with sponsorship and for three consecutive years - 1975, 1979 and 1983, the one-day limited overs cricket tournament was held in England. It became famous as the Prudential Cup. In the first two tournaments, apart from the six full members of the International Cricket Conference (England, Australia, West Indies, New Zealand, India and Pakistan), Sri Lanka, before being elevated to Test status in 1981, had joined East Africa in 1975 and Canada in 1979 (two top teams among the associate members) to complete the groups in the tournaments proper. The West Indies, under Clive Lloyd, not only won the first two tournaments in 1975 and 1979 but in true Calypso style they produced sparkling cricket and confirmed their unassailable supremacy in this game. India broke the West Indian stranglehold in 1983 to open a new chapter in the brief annals of this prestigious tournament.
