Allison Taylor The oldest continuously published newspaper in Bulloch County Thursday, September 24,1998 News Editor mions Our Opinion Pike house arson was a reckless, dangerous act The recent arson fire at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house should spark some serious thought in all of us here at GSU. Why would someone feel the need to purposely set fire to a building belonging to a group of students? Are there problems on or off campus so bad that they can only be solved by the destruction of someone else's property? And did those who set the fire even stop to think that someone could have been inside when the fire was lit, thus endangering lives? We live in a society where people often don't think twice about hurting others. Neverminding the fact that we are all living in this world together, some set out to destroy things that their enemies treasure. Or did someone in the organization think it was funny to set the fire? Could it be more devious than that? Did someone set the fire to possibly destroy a house for insurance money? While it sounds horrible, it could have happened. People could have been hurt! The fire could have destroyed the woods surrounding the house and it might have spread to otherhousesinthearea. Also, firefighters »T>te had to put themselves in danger to extinguish the fire. No one should have set that fire, no matter what their reasoning. The damage could have been much worse. It's a question of morals, a thing which many of us are Why we don't call him William 'Jesus' Clinton lacking in.
