Annual Report 2010-2011• • 25 Benilde-St. Margaret’s The success of Benilde-St. Margaret’s School depends on the combined efforts of students, families, alumni, donors, faculty and staff, administration and the Board of Directors. I’d like to personally thank everyone who is part of the BSM community for our success during the past year.

We recently completed our Raise the Red Capital Campaign, the most successful campaign in our school’s history. A special thanks to our many generous donors who contributed to the campaign and who are recognized in this annual report. Because of this campaign we have been able to continue to invest in our students, our academic programs and our facilities despite the challenging economic environment.

A major focus of the administration and the board this year was to develop long-term strategies to maintain the affordability and accessibility of BSM for years to come. Affordability and accessibility will be a top priority as we begin a new strategic planning cycle and lay the groundwork for future capital campaigns.

BSM is a dynamic Catholic learning community, and it has been my pleasure to serve as the chair of the board for the last two years. Our family looks forward to continuing our investment in the BSM community.

Last year, we saw our investment in technology pay off as every student in grades 7-12 began using a laptop. We’ve redesigned our library to take advantage of online research and information resources. Now, teachers are taking advantage of everything the Internet and Intranet have to offer. Students are becoming more technically literate and prepared for college and life. We’re managing our resources by recycling and reducing the use of paper.

With the implementation of the BSM Hour, we added an eighth period to the daily senior high schedule. We completed phasing in the program based on the Catholic bishops’ curriculum framework for developing catechetical materials for high school students. Weve begun focusing on wellness issues. We’ve increased the investment in our teaching staff.

Nothing has happened without contributions from you and the support of our board of directors. Thank you. Cary Musech also deserves thanks for his service as chair of the BSM Board of Directors.

When Cary took the gavel, we were in the midst of the Raise the Red Campaign. Despite difficult economic times, he was a champion for our FirstFund (Annual Fund), and encouraged us as we worked to make BSM affordable through tuition assistance. On his watch, we’ve seen the preservation of our environmental footprint and the completion of the newly dedicated McQuinn Athletic Complex.

Rodney Jordan now holds the gavel as we begin the next chapter in BSM’s history. The board will help guide BSM through our next strategic planning process and develop a vision for 2020. With the community’s support and enrollment very near capacity, we’re on the right foot.
