Kerry Richardson is a fully trained & experienced freelance television producer working mainly in factual and documentary television, including long-form programmes. Credits include output for BBC1, BBC2, and E4. Her career spans more than 20 years and she continues to work as both a series producer and as a producer-director.

Series Producer Kerry produced her first series for BBC1 in 2003 and has subsequently gone on to produce factual series for BBC2 and Channel 4. All have been long-form, new series/formats with some shot on HD. She has arranged shoots in nearly 30 countries on 5 continents and has produced drama documentaries, authored travelogue, staged large scale public events and structured ‘reality’ series.

Producer-Director Kerry’s directing career spans 20 years, and she usually produces as well as directing. She has directed in many factual genres, and has worked in all lengths from short magazine inserts to 60 mins long-form. Her output has been transmitted on BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4 and E4.

Development producer Kerry has continuously developed new programme and series concepts and has gained a number of commissions for the BBC, notably at BBC Bristol and at independent Kudos Productions. She has also developed exciting projects for new media for Tony Garnet’s drama production company, World Productions.

Executive Producer Kerry was appointed to this role at independent TVF in 1996 to head up its non-broadcast department. She maintained this position until deciding to return to broadcast television in 1998 but now aspires to expand her experience into broadcast executive producing.

PRODUCER-DIRECTOR 2010 Kerry recently produced and directed several internationally Food: what goes I your basket? shot food journeys for this new 6 x 60 mins Channel 4 food Remarkable Television (Endemol) series. Working with fresh new on-screen talent Ravinder For Channel 4 Bhopal, Kerry filmed in challenging locations such as Zimbabwe, Kenya and Morocco.

SERIES PRODUCER and 2009 This new 6 x 60 mins formatted factual series follows the PRODUCER-DIRECTOR fortunes of six families who have left the rat race to pursue a My Dream Farm, with Monty Don farming life. With little experience of their own, the advice of Betty TV for Channel 4 mentor Monty Don is crucial.

TX January/February 2010 As well as producing this series, Kerry also directed 3 episodes (half the series) as part of the formatting process of a series intended to be a returnable format.

PRODUCER-DIRECTOR 2008 60 mins documentary about French designer and botanist No Grounds For Gardening Patric Blanc – shot in Paris. Kerry continues to undertake BBC Birmingham for BBC2 directing work from time to time.

SERIES PRODUCER 2006/08 A 10 x 60 mins high-definition documentary series, presented Around the World in 80 Gardens by Monty Don and shot in 24 different countries on 5 BBC Birmingham for BBC2 continents. Destinations include China and Japan, India, South And Central America and Australia.

CHARITY FUND RAISER 2005/06 Kerry took a sabbatical from TV production and spent over a Butterfly World Trust year helping to raise funds to build Butterfly World, an Eden Project style butterfly conservation foundation near St Albans, now under construction.

SERIES PRODUCER 2003/04 A 6 x 60 mins series that traces the history of entertainment The History of Magic magic from its roots in Shamanism, through the Golden Age BBC Bristol for BBC2 of big stage illusions in the late 19th century and into the glitzy 20th century world of Vegas and TV megastars.

SERIES PRODUCER This three x 60 mins formatted factual series takes the lid off Death By … Gardening, Pets and Home 2003 the UK’s most common accidents. Presented by Tommy BBC Bristol for BBC1 Walsh (Gardening), Andy Kane (Homes) and Ben Fogel (Pets) and featured dramatic reconstructions of accidents.

PRODUCER-DIRECTOR-ORIGINATOR 2002/03 60 mins special that affectionately traced 50 years of change The Joy of Home in British homes. This documentary was directly BBC Bristol for BBC2 commissioned by then Head of BBC2, Jane Root on delivery of the finished ‘The Joy of Gardening’.

PRODUCER-ORIGINATOR 2002 The Joy of Gardening (below) returned in new guise, this time The Joy of Gardening: Four Seasons looking at gardeners’ passions for the four seasons. DEVELOPMENT PRODUCER 2000/01 Kerry worked closely with then Head of Factual Mark Hill in search of BBC Bristol, Factual Entertainment commissions in gardening and lifestyle documentaries and series. This work resulted in 3 significant commissions, all of which Kerry went on to produce and direct.

DEVELOPMENT PRODUCER 1999 Kerry initiated a ‘living lab’ style concept long before the term Confidence Lab ‘reality series’ had been coined. Working in collaboration with Kudos Productions for BBC2 eminent producer Charlotte Black, ‘Confidence Lab’ - a 4 x 60 mins series designed to help people with body images issues – was commissioned by BBC2.

PRESENTER 1993 Kerry was as co-presenter of this C4 angling series and has Screaming Reels occasionally returned to presenting during her career for Discovery Kudos Productions for Channel4 Channel and for the Ford Motor Company.
