Journals growth and global impact Royal Society of Chemistry The Royal Society of Chemistry is the world’s leading chemistry community, advancing excellence in the chemical sciences. With over 51,000 members and a knowledge business that spans the globe, we are the UK’s professional body for chemical scientists, supporting and representing our members and bringing together chemical scientists from all over the world.

A not-for-profit organisation with a heritage that spans 170 years, we have an ambitious international vision for the future. Around the world, we invest in educating future generations of scientists. We raise and maintain standards. We partner with industry and academia, promoting collaboration and innovation. We advise Government on scientific policy. And we promote the talent, information and ideas that lead to great advances in science.

In a complex and changing world, chemistry and the chemical sciences are essential. They are vital in our everyday lives and will be vital in helping the world respond to some of its biggest challenges.

We’re working to shape the future of the chemical sciences – for the benefit of science and humanity.

Our global publishing business helps us to do just that. We publish more than 40 peer-reviewed journals, two magazines, and over 1,300 books, spanning analytical science, biological chemistry, catalysis, chemical biology & medicinal chemistry, energy, engineering, environmental science, food science, general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, materials science, nanoscience, organic chemistry and physical chemistry.

In 2014, the number of articles published in our journals 2009 increased to over 36,000 articles. 2010 In fact, we published more than three times as many articles in 2014 than we did in 2008. 2011

It’s not just the increase in global output that is making 2012 these numbers bigger: our share of the market has trebled since 2008. Other major chemistry publishers 2013 have seen their share decrease during that time. 2014

*Chemistry Education Research and Practice is listed in the Education, Scientific Disciplines category. It is the highest ranked journal devoted solely to chemistry education. A journal’s Impact Factor is an indication of the average number of citations received per individual paper in the preceding two years. The annual figure is calculated by dividing the number of citations to relevant articles in a year by the number of citeable articles published in the preceding two years. The Five-year Impact Factor is an indication of the average number of times articles from a journal published in the past five years have been cited in the Journal Citation Reports year. For journals in subjects where citation activity continues to rise through several years, this metric allows more of their total citation activity to be included in a critical performance metric.
