To date, much of what little research exists on this group of elders focuses on acculturation and related stress, but there is limited research on the daily life experiences of these older adults, particularly as they pertain to family life, the practice of filial piety, and informal support exchange within their households, as well as their social lives more generally. -

Laali A journey of a woman in search of true love and she drifted to understand the concept of transcendental oneness. 1 About the Author The author has education in epistemology and taught philosophy and culture in the university. He is working as a senior journalist and covered socio- economic stories in Rajasthan and Gujarat- great states of culture and customs of India. 2 The story of an illiterate woman of Rajasthan in India who in her journey of finding transcendental love realizes that marriage is not only the answer. After her broken marriage she tries several live in-relationships to find true love. She knows that the feeling of transcendental love, a love beyond logic and reasoning, exists and she starts searching the meaning of love, during her journey, she tries to understand principles of Hindu religion and philosophy to understand the reality and truth that fabricates the society to live in accordance with right knowledge. The lower communities that remained suppressed for thousands of years have their own customs and rituals and have their own closed society but unfortunately their literatures and customs got no place in writing because education was mostly limited to upper class. The story also tells that Indian philosophy was never applied to get the real advantage of such knowledge. And therefore philosophies remained just reciting of books and prevailing system of society and confused common man. I am thankful to my daughter Sanghamitra and son Kumar Bodhisattva who persuaded me to continue my writing. They came in my life as little angels. 3 Index 1. -

Ceremonies- Section 7 Institution or the formation of a Hindu marriage can be found under Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 which clearly lays down certain conditions prerequisite for the formation of a marriage, or the conditions necessary for a marriage to become valid in the eyes of law. Section 7 of Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 provides certain ceremonies to be performed under the heading “Ceremonies for a Hindu Marriage”. It is important to know the conditions, under which Hindu marriage can be termed as a valid marriage, or legal authentication. So far as old Hindu Law is concerned, Manusmriti, or the Laws of Manu, describes eight kinds of marriage: Brahmana (Brahma) — where the father of the bride invites a man learned in the Vedas and is of good conduct, and gives his daughter in marriage to him after decking her with jewels and costly garments. Gods (Daiva) — where the daughter is groomed with ornaments and given to a priest, who duly officiates at a ritual of sacrifice during the course of the performance of this rite. Rishis (Arsha) — when the father gives away his daughter after receiving a cow and a bull from the bridegroom. Prajapati - (Prajapatya) — where the father gives away his daughter after blessing the couple with the text ―May both of you perform together your duties‖ Asuras— when the bridegroom receives the bride after bestowing wealth to her kinsmen and to the bride herself according to his own will. Gandharva — the voluntary union of a maiden and her lover, which arises from desire and sexual intercourse for its purpose. -

AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF STATUS OF WOMEN IN DHARMASHASTRA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE YAJNAVALKYA-SMRITI RAJENDRA D. MESHRAM Ph.D. Research Scholar, Post Graduate Department of Sanskrit Language & Literature, KavikulaguruKalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek - 441106, Dist. Nagpur, (MS) INDIA Yajnavalkya is a well-known personality in the Sanskrit Literature. He is mentioned in the Vedas and Mahabharata. He has contributed a lot in the Dharmashastra. It is said that he was a wise man in the court of Janaka of Mithila. The code of holy law is known after his name as Yajnavalkya-Smriti. Yajnavalkya-Smriti is later than Manu-Smriti. The Yajnavalkya-Smriti has three Chapters viz. Acharadhyaya, Vyavaharadhyaya and Prayascchittadhyaya. Yajnavalkya-Smriti was considered as an ideal code of conduct. Purified than that of the Manu-Smriti. It is evident from this Smriti that man was treating women as his personal property because of dominance of Pitrusattak system in society. The condition of women was very deplorable and difficult. There is mention of very hard rules for the women and had few rights and had no desire. They were discriminated on the basis of gender. INTRODUCTION The Yajnavalkya-Smriti, the code of conduct of ancient time, was the widely accepted by the Hindus. There are controversies regarding the period of composition of Yajnavalkya-Smriti His period is between 8th to 7th century B.C. It is considered that he was earliest philosopher and is credited for coining monism. His name is mentioned in Bramhanas, Aranyakas and Upanishadas. The dialogues in Brihadaranyaka Upanishada suggest that he has two wives. -

It marks completion of half the years of one’s lifetime as, in Hinduism, 120 years is considered the life span of a human being. In modern times, this sounds highly optimistic and exaggerated but the sixtieth year in one’s life is a significant milestone nevertheless, a memorable turning point, a touching reminder of the rich, mellowed life to unfold in the years to come. This milestone marks celebration and gratitude for this God- given life. I am grateful to the Almighty for the blessings He has always bestowed on my life, provided me with more than I could ever have imagined, given me family and friends who bless me every day with kind words and actions, and has surrounded me with people who always look out for me. I was fortunate to celebrate my 60th birthday with all of you, my friends. Press FOREWORD Afart from laying the foundations of demography in this subcontinent, a hundred years 0 the Indian Census has also produced 'elaborate and scholarly accounts of the variegated phenomena of Indian life sometimes with no statistics attached, but usually with just enough statistics to give empirical underpinning to their conclusions. In a country, largely illiterate, wht!re statistical or numerical comprehension of even such a simple thing as age was liable to be inaccurate, an understanding of the social stnicture was essential. It was more necessary to attain a broad understanding of what was hap pening around oneself than to wrap oneself up in 'statistical ingenuity' or 'ma'thGmatical manipulation'. This explains why the Indian Census came to be interested in 'many by-paths' and 'nearly every branch of scholarship, from anthropology and sociology to geo graphy and religion~. In the last few decades the Census has increasingly turned its efforts-to the presen tation of village Statistics. This suits the temper of the times as well as our political and economic structure. For even as we have a great deal of centralization on the one hand and decentralisation on the other, my colleagues thought it would be a welcQme continua tion of the Census tradition to try to invest the dry bones of village statistics with flesh and-blood accounts of social structure and social change.
