Nikolina Bobic, University of Sydney Re-Negotiating Balkanism: Body De-Stabilizing in Belgrade’s Republic Square The notion of translation will be thought through as re-rendering of the discourse of Balkanism in general, and a specific event in Belgrade spurred by NATO’s Operation Allied Force in 1999 in particular. The event, also known as ‘Songs Sustained Us’, occurred in Belgrade’s public space, notably the Republic Square. The potential of Balkanism re-translated and deployed to expose an alternative use of a human body in public space, is that it collapses the binary structure of subject-object and inside-outside. The focus of this paper will not be on the meaning of NATO’s intervention, but how a particular political order operates in response to the deployment of Belgrade’s public spaces as agency of resistance.

Using linear regressions, it was found that the total number of participants, both from Serbia and abroad, significantly increased; total number of male and female participants, both from Serbia and abroad, significantly increased ; the number of women is growing more than men every year, especially inthe sample of participants from Serbia; the number of participants by age categories of 5 years, for women and men from Serbia increased to the age group of 30- 35 years, and then slowly decreased; the percentage of men and women in the 30-39 age category is increasing; the proportion of female seniors and female veterans is increasing. Statistically significant decreases: percentage of men in the 50-59 age category; percentage of male veterans. The percentage of male seniors didnot change. It can be concluded that the number of participants in the Belgrade Marathon, especially participants from Serbia, is increasing significantly, with a trend that exceeds many marathons in the world.

Repić Ćujić V., Juhas I., National Marathon Championships from 1930... PHYSICAL CULTURE 2013; 67 (1): 48-60 Vesna Repić Ćujić 1 796.422.16.093(497.11) Irina Juhas2 Original scientifi c paper 1 Serbian Institute for Sports and Sports Medicine, Belgrade, Serbia 2 University of Belgrade, Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, Belgrade, Serbia NATIONAL MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS FROM 1930 IN THE KINGDOM OF YUGOSLAVIA UNTIL 2010 IN THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA Abstract The worldwide appearance of marathon, as athletic discipline, resulted in organizing of National Championships as well. In the majority of countries, they occurred between the two world wars, same applying to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The goal of this research was to fi nd, gather, reconstruct and critically analyse the data about national championships from 1930 to 2010. With regard to the time frame, depending on historical events, it was divided into following periods: 1. from the 1st National Championship in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1930 to 1939; 2. from the National Championship of DFY in 1949 to 1990; 3. from 1992 to 2003, when Serbia and Montenegro ceased to exist; 4. from 2003 to 2010. The fi rst data mentioning national championship goes back to 1930. The idea, according to the found information, was initiated by the marathon runner Dimitrije Stefanovic. During the period from 1930 to the beginning of the World War II, ten marathon championships had been held, one of which took place in Belgrade. There were only few competitors, which was also common for the national championships of other countries. During the period from 1949 to 1991, marathon was mainly organized within the national championships together with other disciplines, and after that, it became part of mass marathons.

  • Report on Activities and Accomplishments in 2014
HlcIndexOut: 35-F110501 Belgrade, March 14, 2015 Report on activities and accomplishments in 2014 Mission The Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) supports post-Yugoslav societies in the promotion of the rule of law and the acceptance of the legacy of grave human rights violations, and therefore in establishing the criminal responsibility of perpetrators, serving justice, and preventing recurrence. 1 Introduction In March 2014, Serbia held early parliamentary elections. The coalition gathered around the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) won an absolute majority in the Serbian Parliament. The SNS and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) formed a new Government in April, with Aleksandar Vučić, former First Deputy PM, as the new Prime Minister, thus confirming the continued political domination of the actors who served in the Slobodan Milošević regime during the armed conflicts in the Former Yugoslavia during the 1990s. The new Government, just like the preceding ones, did not put the principles and values of transitional justice and dealing with the crimes of the nineties at the top of its political agenda. However, at the same time, the Government sent a message to domestic and international audiences signalling Serbia’s unqualified commitment to EU accession process and the social and institutional reforms that need to be undertaken on the path towards accession.1 In March 2012, Serbia was granted the status of EU candidate country. In January 2014, the EU officially commenced EU accession talks with Serbia. In 2014, the European Commission (EC) completed the screening process for chapters 23 and 24, related to the judiciary, fundamental rights, justice, freedoms and security.
