ELIZABETH DE TREJO Soprano

In 2019-20 season soprano Elizabeth de Trejo debuted the role of Donna Anna in Florida Grand ’s production of Don Giovanni, and will be heard in numerous concerts and recitals, including a debut as soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the York Symphony. She received critical reviews as the soprano soloist in the US premiere of Joachim Raff’s De Profundis and the Te Deum of Lilli Boulanger with The Orchestra NOW at under the baton of Leon Botstein and was also heard as the soprano soloist in Verdi’s Requiem with the Oratorio Society of New York, again at Carnegie Hall, followed by a return to the National Chorale for Mozart’s Vespers and Requiem. Earlier in the season she sang Donna Anna in Syracuse Opera’s production of Don Giovanni.

In 2017-2018 Elizabeth sang the Goddess Venus in Offenbach's Orphees aux Enfers with New Orleans Opera, and was featured on the Naxos label in songs by the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Sara Teasdale, composed by Michael J. Trott, at the behest of the Poetry Society of New York. In 2016 she was soprano soloist at David Geffen Hall in Orff's Carmina Burana with the National Chorale and was a distinguished guest artist at the Great Mountains Music Festival in South Korea, performing works of Bellini and Beethoven with the Festival Orchestra conducted by Kent Tritle. Elizabeth recently performed the roles of Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte with North Carolina Opera, Norma with St. Petersburg Opera, and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with the Savannah Voice Festival.

Elizabeth made her debut in Lulu in the 2009-2010 season, also debuting the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor with Opera Tampa, then returned to Carnegie Hall to perform Carmina Burana with MidAmerica Productions. During the 2010-2011 season she returned to Opera Tampa as Violetta in La Traviata. Other credits include her Carnegie Hall debut as soloist under the baton of John Rutter, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and Gilda in with Toledo Opera, Adina in L’Elisir d’amore with Dayton Opera, and Marguerite in Faust with Opera Tampa. Ms. De Trejo received critical acclaim as Violetta in La Traviata for Miami Opera, Adele in Die Fledermaus and Die Freundin in Lehar’s Der Frühling in Milan. She also

recorded the title role of Mascagni’s Il Si with Orchestra Verdi. Additional roles include Poppea in L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare, Juliette in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette and Rosina in Anton Coppola’s epic opera, Sacco and Vanzetti, Musetta in La Boheme, Clarice in Haydn’s Il Mondo della Luna in Basel, Switzerland, and Die Königen die Nacht in Die Zauberflöte für Kinder with the Opernhaus Zürich.

In addition to her operatic repertoire, Elizabeth is a passionate recitalist, having sung extensively in Europe, Asia and the United States as a guest soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, Beethoven's Mass in C, and the Brahms, Fauré and Mozart Requiems, to name a few. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Gerda Lissner Opera competition, MacAllister Opera competition, the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions, the Jenny Lind Soprano competition, the Rosa Ponselle competition, the Giulio Gari Foundation Opera competition and the Liederkranz Foundation competition and was the first ever recipient of the Randolph "Randy" Mickelson Memorial Fund Award. De Trejo won a career grant from the Career Bridges Foundation and the Sergio Franchi Foundation, and was honored to be recommended for the Career Grant Awards.

Elizabeth can be seen on the EMI Classics DVD of Der Rosenkavalier with Vasselina Kasarova, Nina Stemma, and Alfred Muff under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst and Sven Erich Bechtolf. She attended Loyola University where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance, and Yale University, earning her Master of Music. Ms. De Trejo was previously a studio member of the Opernhaus Zürich. Post-graduation, she joined the International Opera Studio of the Opernhaus Zürich. She is a faculty member of the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, The Bel Canto in Tuscany program with Giovanni Reggioli and Maestro William Crutchfield, and is former President of Joy In Singing.
