A MESSAGE FROM MONSIGNOR BOB The Feast of Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Christ, is one of the most solemn celebrations in our Church year. We recall the moment before the arrest, suffering and death of Jesus when He gave us the entirety of Himself to sustain us in our faith and draw us closer to the Father. In that upper room on Holy Thursday, life changed forever for those of us who believe. “While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, ‘Take it; this is my body.’ Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, ‘This is the blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.’” Mark 14: 2226 The simplicity of His words and actions does not capture the depth of this pouring forth of His life for each of us. How blessed are we to be able to partake of the very life of Christ. This feast is a day of thanksgiving (eucharistia) for all the Lord does for us and His willingness to share Himself with whomever chooses to worthily partake of the Holy Eucha- rist. And how blessed are we who know and believe and rely on the power of the Eucharist to give us life, hope, strength and a deeper faith and trust in God’s endless love for us. It is a day when we need to pray for the members of our fami- lies and our friends who no longer receive the Eucharist or believe in the real presence. Jesus reminds us that unless we eat His Body and drink His Blood, we have no life. How true that is when we look at the condition of our world in these times! The value of life is not part of the contemporary agenda. As we approach the altar of the Lord, let us remind our- selves of the great gift Holy Eucharist is for all of us! This is also a day to remind ourselves of the importance of saying grace before we eat our meals. Saying this prayer on Thanksgiving Day is not enough! It should be a part of our everyday lives. Jesus models this for us as he prayed before that meal in the upper room. We need to take every opportunity we are given to thank God for all the blessings He pours into our lives! Congratulations to our deacons as they celebrate their ordination anniversaries this month: June 8 M Deacon Norm Roos (25 years) June 9 Deacon Rick Scinto (9 years) June 15 M Deacon Mike Ronan (2 years) We are blessed as a parish by the service of these three men, who often go far beyond what is expected of them. Thanks to their wives and their families for the sacrifices they make on our behalf. PLEASE JOIN US NEXT SUNDAY, JUNE 13, FOLLOWING THE 11:30 A.M. MASS AS WE CELBRATE THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEACON NORM AND SAY THANKS TO LARRY GARDNER WHO IS RE- TIRING AS OUR FOLK CHOIR COORDINATOR. BOTH OF THESE MEN HAVE GIVEN MUCH TO US, AND IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE TAKE TIME TO THANK THEM. THEIR RECEPTION WILL BE HELD IN THE BELL GARDEN (WEATHER PERMITTING). CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SAINT ROSE GRADUATES AND ALL OUR GRADUATES FROM OUR CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOLS! We are all very proud of each of them and are grateful to their parents who sacrificed in order to provide a faith based education for their children. I pray that God keep close watch over them as they continue to grow in wisdom, age and grace! Thank you for your patience as we begin our new Mass schedule this weekend. We will evaluate the schedule at the end of the summer once we have our planning for the fall in place. I know it is never easy to change Mass times and to ad- just your personal schedules, so your cooperation is doubly appreciated! Thanks also to the many people who are supporting our decision about not hosting a carnival this year. It was a difficult one to make, but I am certain that it was the right decision as we continue to move forward in the midst of this pandemic which is still part of us! Please do your best to support our Sweepstakes!
