That’s what The Smashing Pumpkins are asking their fans to do for the 13 songs on their new album OCEANIA, out June 19 via Martha’s Music/EMI Label Services/Caroline Distribution. Longtime fans of the visual arts--including their groundbreaking music videos and memorable album covers/packaging--THE SMASHING PUMPKINS want to inspire creativity and evoke ones personal vision for each song, simply based on the title. That’s the idea behind their new social media endeavor, whereby fans can create their own imagery for any of the album’s 13 songs, tag them with #SPoceania and share them with each other via Instagram, Pinterest, Deviantart and Facebook and Twitter. The Smashing Pumpkins will also share, like and repost and repin on the official Smashing Pumpkins social sites and some images may end up on the official website. Artists can utilize photos, designs, paintings and words to imagine their own vision of the songs on OCEANIA including “Quasar,” “Panopticon,” “The Celestials,” “Violet Rays,” “My Love is Winter,” “One Diamond, One Heart,” “Pinwheels,” “Oceania,” “Pale Horse,” “The Chimera,” “Glissandra,” “Inkless” and “Wildflower.” (Full track listing below.)     IAVA Recipient: Secretary Mattis Letter: Greetings, First, thank you for your service and sacrifice and for your incredible leadership that so many in the military and veteran community have experienced and respect. As you know, more than 1.5 million veterans have have educated themselves with the Post-9/11 GI Bill, and almost 70% of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) members have used or transferred this benefit to a dependent. It could very well be the most transformative federal benefit created. The new restriction on Post-9/11 GI Bill transferability to only those with less than 16 years of service is a completely unnecessary reduction of this critical benefit, and it will ultimately hurt our military recruitment and readiness. In a time of war, it remains enormously important to recruit and retain qualified servicemembers, especially with an ever-decreasing pool of eligible recruits. For years, IAVA has been at the forefront of this fight. We led the effort to establish this benefit in 2008 and we have successfully defended it in recent years. We cannot allow our GI Bill to be dismantled or abused. This is why I am standing with my fellow IAVA members to respectfully request that you reverse this counterproductive policy change that creates barriers to access to these transformative benefits. The GI Bill has been earned by millions of men and women on the battlefield and around the world and it should not be subjected to arbitrary restrictions that limit its use. Again, thank you for your leadership and I ask that you take action now to reverse this decision.

    “When I listen to Gish,” Billy Corgan says today, “what I hear is a beautiful naïveté.” They say you never forget the first time, and even twenty years later, the 1991 debut album by Smashing Pumpkins –– guitarist and vocalist Corgan, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, bassist D’arcy Wretzky and guitarist James Iha –– remains the unforgettable start of a musical conversation that continues to resonate with millions of fans all around the world. In retrospect, Gish can clearly be heard as a groundbreaking album in the history of what would soon become more much widely known as alternative rock. Gish was, after all, the promising debut of a band that would help alternative rock quickly become part of a new, grungier mainstream. But back in the beginning, Gish was simply the memorable opening salvo by a band from Chicago that really didn’t fit in anywhere in the rock world –– that is, until bands like Smashing Pumpkins helped change the rock world once and for all. To hear Corgan tell it now, Smashing Pumpkins came by their beautiful naïveté naturally. “We’d had very little exposure to the national stage,” he explains. “There’s no way that if we had been exposed to all of what was going on in New York and L.A. earlier, we would have made Gish. This is one of those weird albums that sounds like it came from some guy who crawls up out of the basement holding a record in his hands proudly –– a little like the first time we heard Dinosaur Jr. You think, ‘who the hell is this?
