The gala black-tie event has grown in stature and rotates between a different city each year. This year the ACRAs will be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday,10 October and will start at the earlier time of 6.00 pm (red carpet 5.00 pm). Chief executive officer of Commercial Radio Australia, Joan Warner said; “The ACRAs are a much anticipated event within a highly competitive radio industry. The depth of talent each year across all areas of radio in Australia makes the job of the peer and industry judging panel very difficult.” Organised by Commercial Radio Australia on behalf of the radio industry, the national Awards cover 33 categories. Winners are announced in each category across three areas: metropolitan, provincial and country commercial radio stations, and encompass all areas of commercial radio broadcasting including news, talk, sport, music and entertainment. The ACRAs differ from television‟s Logie Awards in that they are peer judged by industry members. The ACRAs follow the National Radio Conference, which will be held at Jupiters on the Gold Coast on Friday 9 October. A complete list of the 2015 ACRAs finalists follows. (NB: Hall of Fame no finalists, one inductee announced on the night). ABAC Adjudication Panel Determination No. 123/17 Product: Cellarbrations Company: ALM Liquor Group Media: Radio Complainant: McCusker Centre for Action on Alcohol and Youth Date of decision: 10 January 2018 Panelists: Professor The Hon Michael Lavarch (Chief Adjudicator) Jeanne Strachan Professor Richard Mattick Introduction 1. This determination by the ABAC Adjudication Panel (“the Panel”) concerns the placement of an advertisement for Cellarbrations by ALM Liquor Group (“the Company”) on radio station Nova 93.7FM during the Kate, Tim & Marty show at 4.25pm, 4.45pm and 4.50pm on Friday 8 December 2017 and arises from a complaint received on 12 December 2017. 2. Alcohol marketing in Australia is subject to an amalgam of laws and codes of practice, that regulate and guide the content and, to some extent, the placement of marketing. Given the mix of government and industry influences and requirements in place, it is accurate to describe the regime applying to alcohol marketing as quasi-regulation. The most important provisions applying to alcohol marketing are found in: (a) Commonwealth and State laws: • Australian Consumer Law – which applies to the marketing of all products or services, and lays down baseline requirements, such as that marketing must not be deceptive or misleading; • legislation administered by the Australian Communications and Media Authority – which goes to the endorsement of industry codes that place restrictions on alcohol advertising on free to air television; • State liquor licensing laws – which regulate retail

View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by The University of Sydney: Sydney eScholarship Journals online DOROTHY GREEN MEMORIAL LECTURE Narrative Lives and Human Rights: Stolen Generation Narratives and the Ethics of Recognition KAY SCHAFFER, UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE Dorothy Green was a formidable figure in the field of Australian literature. I first met her twenty five years ago at a symposium in Sydney hosted by Geoffrey Sharp, the then editor of Arena. The idea for the gathering grew out of the pres- entation of a number of innovative papers that had been delivered to the first ASAL Conference, held at Monash University in 1978 that offered what then were emergent feminist and cultural studies perspectives. At the ASAL confer- ence, and later at the Sharp symposium, I presented a paper on Katharine Susannah Prichard, entitled “Of an End a New Beginning,” that utilized feminist, neo- marxist and psychobiographic tools to analyse the creative tension between Prichard’s biography, her Marxist politics and the marked Lawrentian tendencies in her fiction. Geoff later published it in Arena in 1979 (Iseman). It was my first published piece of critical writing in Australia. A number of (then) young (and now well-known) scholars whose work pio- neered Australian feminist and cultural studies, including film and popular cul- ture, had delivered papers at ASAL and were subsequently invited to the seminar in Sydney. Many of us worked at the intersections of literature, politics, philoso- phy and popular culture and came from interdisciplinary faculties in the CAEs, the Institutes of Technology and newer universities.
