  • 2021 “Meditations of Our Hearts”
2021 “Meditations of Our Hearts” A Lenten Devotional of the First Presbyterian Church Jacksonville, Illinois “Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14 Last year, in the midst of Lent, our world completely changed. Schools, businesses, and life seemed to halt. The Lenten disciplines we practiced for years took a dramatic turn, we cancelled in-person worship, and overnight we shifted to live-streaming worship. The world we live in today is very different than it was last year. We have quickly learned that we have little control in our world. When everything is shifting and raging around us it can be very difficult to hold onto something solid. Yet, we are reminded in Psalm 46 much wisdom in times of certainty. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea (Psalm 46:1-3). As a new year has come, and as seasons continue to pass, we discover that we are approaching another season of Lent. It is comforting to have rhythms and seasons. Lent can provide a helpful rhythm in the midst of chaos. Lent is a season that provides preparation and study, and a rhythm of prayer and fasting. According to the prophet Isaiah, the fast God desires the most is to lift the burden of bondage, feed the hungry, house the homeless, clothe the naked and share sympathy (Isaiah 58:6-7).

August 1 2016, Issue 510 Bud & Broadway On The Move Taking a morning show on a remarkable journey from market No. 188 to No. 22 was all part of the five- (and-a-half) year plan for WIL/St. Louis’ Bud & Broadway. Of course, their decades of programming and on-air experience helped. Country Aircheck reached out for a travelogue. In 2010, WTVY/Dothan, AL PD Jerry Broadway brought in Bud Ford for afternoons. “After he and I met and started hanging out, we figured out pretty quick that we should be doing a morning show together,” says Broadway. “I was already on the morning show, and an opportunity came up to add a partner, and I decided Bud was going to be that guy.” Don’t Be Your Own Boss: The two tapped prodigious programming experience – Ford’s includes WKDF/Nashville – and aimed to create a show either would hire. Easier said than done, Flatts Forward: Big Machine’s Rascal Flatts in Dallas Saturday it turns out. “It challenges us,” says Ford. “There are two sides. (7/30). Active since 1947, it soon became the first radio station in America that was programmed entirely for African Americans.[1] It featured black radio personalities; its success in building an audience attracted radio advertisers suddenly aware of a "new" market among black listeners. The station had a strong influence on music, hiring musicians early in their careers, and playing their music to an audience that reached through the Mississippi Delta to the Gulf Coast. The station started the WDIA Goodwill Fund to help and empower black communities. Owned by iHeartMedia, Inc., the station's studios are located in Southeast Memphis, and the transmitter site is in North Memphis.
