Tour Club Leisure Guide 2021 Issue No. 17 | 1 Welcome to Bay Tours & Charters Leisure Guide As I write this, and we head into Christmas and the holiday season it’s hard not to reflect on what has been a difficult year for all of us. Not too many of us will be sorry to see the back of 2020. From a business perspective, there’s never been a more difficult time to be in the tourism industry. The international visitors are no longer here and who knows when they’ll be back. No more cruise ships stopping at Napier until further notice. And whilst some may say “Thank goodness for that. No more traffic nightmares in central Napier, no more hordes of people up Te Mata Peak!” the reality is that thousands of households in Hawke’s Bay rely on the income generated by tourism and a very significant chunk of that has simply disappeared. Napier, in particular, has relied heavily on tourism for decades and whilst the international visitors are no longer currently here, Kiwis have returned to Hawke’s Bay in droves and I suspect this summer, visitations to the region will have more of a family feel. Here at Bay Tours, whilst we certainly haven’t been immune to the huge drop in overseas visitors, we’re thankful for the continued success of the Tour Club. It has been truly heartening to look back at the last 6 months and recall how enthusiastically members responded to our first tentative steps to get out and about again after the lockdown. -

Page | 1 West Auckland Airport, Parakai - Strategic Intentions Executive Summary West Auckland Airport Company Limited (WAACL) proposes expansion to become a Regional Airport. Moving forward now would enable the airport to grow in step with the long-term recovery of the aviation sector over the next three to five years. West Auckland Airport, Parakai is the nearest airport for over 450,000 residents of North and West Auckland, who currently must journey through the city congestion to Auckland International Airport for domestic flights. West Auckland Airport, Parakai’s catchment is comparable to those of the successful Wellington and Christchurch airports. WAACL is an ‘Airport Authority’ with established consent for commercial aviation and has operated on its current site since the early ‘80s. It seeks an equity partner to help purchase additional land required and carry out the detailed investigations and consultations necessary to realise this development potential. Preliminary analysis indicates the passenger numbers will be strong and all critical elements for a successful expansion can be met. This strategic intentions paper outlines the long-term vision and lays the framework for the evolution of the airport. Development would bring significant economic and environmental benefits to the area and bring forward improvements to the Railway and State Highway 16 roading infrastructure, both of which pass close to the airport. 1. Scope and Purpose WAACL offers this strategic intentions paper as a preliminary guide that should inform the development of a full master plan. -
Air New Zealand Profit More Than Doubles
Media release 29 August 2013 Air New Zealand profit more than doubles Air New Zealand today announced earnings before taxation of $256 million for the 2013 financial year, an increase of 172 percent on the previous year and the company’s best result in five years. The net profit after taxation was $182 million, which is $111 million or 156 percent up on the previous year. Operating cash flow was the highest ever at $750 million, and the company reported cash holdings of $1.15 billion. Gearing improved seven percentage points to 39.1 percent, a record low for the airline. A fully imputed final dividend of 5.0 cents per share has been declared, taking the total dividend for the year to 8.0 cents per share, a 45 percent increase on the previous year. Chairman John Palmer says the result places Air New Zealand amongst the best performing airlines globally. “We are focused on further improving on this result in the 2014 financial year. Based on the airline’s forecast of market demand and fuel prices at current levels, early results and forward bookings are encouraging.” he says. “This result is one that investors, Air New Zealanders, customers and our nation can be proud of. It marks the start of an exciting new phase as Chief Executive Officer Christopher Luxon and his management team drive their Go Beyond strategy to grow the airline,” Mr Palmer says. “Strong results allow Air New Zealand to reinvest in its products, services, training and development to further enhance the customer experience and to connect more people and businesses than ever to, from and within New Zealand.” Air New Zealand has committed to investing NZ$1.8 billion in aircraft over the next three years. -
