British Dodgeball is recognised as the National Governing Body for dodgeball in the UK by the World Dodgeball Federation and the European Dodgeball Federation. British Dodgeball are a non-profit organisation whose sole purpose is to develop the of dodgeball in the UK. We offer support and services to national teams, clubs, players, coaches, officials, educational institutions and organisations. Dodgeball is the 2nd most participated in schools and over 50,000 young adults play regularly due to its alternative and inclusive nature. We are passionately driven to develop the sport of dodgeball for all. We are the leading national dodgeball federation throughout Europe and the world.

We develop dodgeball throughout the UK. Next season, we will coordinate over 20 competitive leagues in England, host the WDBF World Championships 2020 in Scotland, work with Sport Wales to develop new clubs and set up a tutor delivery team to increase coach education provision in Northern Ireland.

Dodgeball is a huge sport amongst young people; it is the 2nd most participated team sport in schools and 4th most participated team sport amongst young people aged 5-16. 70% of actively participating adults are aged 16-24, with a strong student demographic. Dodgeball was officially recognised as a sport by Sport England in 2008. We aim to develop the well-known game into a standardised, high quality sport.

After just two years of our organisation being founded, dodgeball is growing at an incredible rate in the UK. Due to our development team’s high quality, participant-centred approach which involves partners where appropriate to strengthen our brand and increase impact, we can present numerous opportunities for you to get involved and become affiliated with one of the fastest growing sports at both grass-roots and international level.

We have laid the groundwork for our most ambitious season yet, with new competitions and international events acting as a catalyst for growth. Dodgeball is the 4th most participated team sport in the UK amongst young people (8.7% of all 5–16 year olds played it at least once in the past week, amounting to 613,00 individuals). Over 400,000 adults aged over 16 have played dodgeball at least once in the last year. There is a strong under 16 and young adult demographic (70% of all playing adults are aged 16-24 years old) however the sport is known for its inclusivity and provision of opportunities for older people to get active. Under British Dodgeball, the community side of the sport is flourishing.

Currently applying for Sport England National Governing Body (NGB) recognition. We aim to secure official NGB status in Winter 2019/2020. Long term goals include gaining core funding in the 2021 sport funding cycle.

Dodgeball is extremely popular amongst students – 6.3% of all students in the UK (1 in every 16) played dodgeball at least once in the last year, amounting to 100,000 students. 11,000 of these (0.7% of all students) play dodgeball more regularly, at least twice in the last 28 days. Many people began playing competitively at university level; competitions are more popular than ever before, having grown from just one national competition per year in 2008 to 9 leagues and 6 national competitions in 2019.

Community: Our 2019-2020 season will have 6 prestigious adult open events, and 5 junior open events. Key events include the British Open & British Junior Open, where almost 100 teams will battle it out. Other events include our Championship series, the pinnacle of which are the British Championships and English Junior Championships; the best 12 men’s, women’s and junior teams from the UK clash for the titles in Liverpool (Jul 2020), attracting 300 spectators through the weekend.

School: For the first time, our 2019-2020 season will contain a comprehensive schools competition pathway consisting of 8 regional schools opens and over 1,000 pupils participating. Run in partnership with local colleges, over 120 students will get the opportunity to earn a leadership qualification and gain experience in event management and officiating. The school calendar will culminate in the Schools National Championship, where 32 schools and over 300 young people will compete for the title in Manchester (Jul 2020). Expect media interest at this event.

University: We will coordinate 5 national university opens in the 2019-2020 season. Each university open event will see 200 students from up to 40 universities competing. The pinnacle of the university competitions calendar is the University Championships (April 2020) with over 300 students competing.

We will coordinate 25 adult and 5 junior leagues in the 2019-2020 season. These range from local & regional leagues up to top- flight men’s, women’s and mixed Super Leagues. Leagues consist of 6-9 meets throughout the Sep-Jun season.

British Dodgeball will host the first ever combined foam and cloth dodgeball world championships (Sep, 2020). 48 teams from the best dodgeball nations on the planet will compete over 6 days in the Emirates Arena, Glasgow, in the biggest dodgeball competition the world has ever seen. The Great Britain Dodgeball team will be targeting gold medals in all 4 categories, increasing public awareness.

Before the WDBF World Championships 2019 Over 2,000 spectators will witness the event begins, over 100 local young people will take unfold live whilst half a million minutes of part in workshops ran by international frantic action will be viewed online. Expect players in order to raise aspirations. Further mainstream media exposure in the build-up and legacy work will engage over 3000 young throughout the event. people.

The Great Britain Dodgeball team has been newly set up in 2019 to compete at world-level events. Containing many World and European Championship medallists from the home nations alongside the best players from the UK’s top leagues, GB can only be described as a super-team.

In 2019, the Great Britain men’s team will compete at the WDBF World Foam Dodgeball Championships in Cancun before preparing to field competitive teams in all 4 categories at the upcoming WDBF World Dodgeball Championships in Glasgow (Sep, 2020). The Home Nations League was created to broaden our high-performance player pathway. The Home Nations League is for adult 1st and 2nd teams from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to compete in mixed, men’s and women’s matches.
