Connie Francis America's Sweetheart of Song
Celebrity Profile Connie Francis America’s Sweetheart of Song Photos Courtesy of Connie Francis At merely the age of 4, Concetta Rosemarie Franconero made her debut at Olympic Park in Irvington, New Jersey, singing “Anchors Away,” while accompanying herself on the accordion. Connie developed a love of music from the first time her father, George played the concertina that his father brought from Italy in 1905. From that point on, music became Connie’s world. Connie’s father took her to every radio and tel- evision audition in existence so she could reap the benefits and experiences of live per- formances. Little did young Concetta fathom that she would become the world’s most popular female singer and the number one best selling female recording artist of all time. At age 11, Connie was a regular on “Marie Moser’s Starlets” local Newark TV show nd later appeared on the “Ted Mack Amateur Hour.” The following year she made yet another national TV appearance on the “Arthur Godfrey Talent Scout Show,” finally ending up with a four-year stint as regular on “Startime,” a TV show that featured tal- ented child performers. The show was produced by the late George Scheck, who would become her lifetime manager. Connie never missed a week in her four years on the show, showing indeed her stability and stamina as a trouper. In her early teens she was sought after to make demo recordings for music publishers who were impressed with her distinctive voice. However, at the sessions she was told deliberately to imitate other artists for whom they wanted to pitch their songs. -

Dion and the Teen Idols
DION AND THE TEEN IDOLS OVERVIEW ESSENTIAL QUESTION What role did the so-called “teen idols” of the late 1950s play in bringing Rock and Roll into mainstream American culture? OVERVIEW Rock and Roll evolved from Rhythm and Blues, a sound developed by African-American musicians that by the early 1950s had begun to reach a new audience among young white teenagers. By nature of its association with black America, there were those who feared that Rock and Roll was a corrupting influence on American youth, promoting socializing between races and juvenile delinquency. Music was not the only thing that disturbed those concerned about Rock and Roll’s influence. Films such as The Wild One (1953), featuring Marlon Brando as the leader of a motorcycle gang, seemed to suggest that teenagers, if not given proper guidance, might fall in with the “wrong kind of crowd.” In an attempt to encourage “good citizenship,” Parent-Teacher Associations and superintendents across the country created codes of conduct for their pupils to monitor school attire, curfew hours, and social behavior both on and off campus. Rock and Roll, and the culture around it, were viewed as something to control. Concurrently, pioneer jockey Alan Freed, the man who first attached the term “Rock and Roll” to the latest R&B recordings, was encountering troubles of his own. In August 1957, Freed’s ABC teen dance show Big Beat was cancelled after African-American artist Frankie Lymon was seen dancing with a white girl on the program, an image that outraged the network’s southern affiliates. -

This would be an excellent book to read in a book club because there are so many philosophical aspects to it, you have the perfect material for some great discussions. Two generous stars. Let Me In. But it's been done before. Is it a good read? If one more person talks about the swooning I'm going to barf. Usually those three things would make a very interesting novel, but for some reason it didn't this time around. She suddenly wakes up wanting to go back to the civilization to meet and save her sister on the day Logan, her love interest, is conveniently set to leave for Eden City. There were so many different things going on, I just got lost in all of it. That part was a little much for me. On Bandcamp Radio. Not really. It was so easy to predict, not even a slight swoon-worthy effect. Scott with a local tourist photographer Alain Delon. On one day? The release date is scheduled for October 4, by Entangled Teen. It was amazing. Jan 10, Jeninne rated it it was ok. There are open questions we have about the world and what will happen — and the perspective changes as well! Previous Post. Callie future memory shows her killing her little sister. The world in this book is pretty much ruled by the memory you receive from your future self when you turn Forget Tomorrow Writer Do I recommend this book? Je trouvais que Callie faisait trop petite fille dans ses raisonnements. -
BOBBY CHARLES LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie Van Varik
BOBBY CHARLES LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik. Bobby Charles was born Robert Charles Guidry on 21st February 1938 in Abbeville, Louisiana. A native Cajun himself, he recalled that his life “changed for ever” when he re-tuned his parents’ radio set from a local Cajun station to one playing records by Fats Domino. Most successful as a songwriter, he is regarded as one of the founding fathers of swamp pop. His own vocal style was laidback and drawling. His biggest successes were songs other artists covered, such as ‘See You Later Alligator’ by Bill Haley & His Comets; ‘Walking To New Orleans’ by Fats Domino – with whom he recorded a duet of the same song in the 1990s – and ‘(I Don’t Know Why) But I Do’ by Clarence “Frogman” Henry. It allowed him to live off the songwriting royalties for the rest of his life! Two other well-known compositions are ‘The Jealous Kind’, recorded by Joe Cocker, and ‘Tennessee Blues’ which Kris Kristofferson committed to record. Disenchanted with the music business, Bobby disappeared from the music scene in the mid-1960s but returned in 1972 with a self-titled album on the Bearsville label on which he was accompanied by Rick Danko and several other members of the Band and Dr John. Bobby later made a rare live appearance as a guest singer on stage at The Last Waltz, the 1976 farewell concert of the Band, although his contribution was cut from Martin Scorsese’s film of the event. Bobby Charles returned to the studio in later years, recording a European-only album called Clean Water in 1987. -
