Peter Cancro — Jersey Mike’s Subs

Questionnaire Response No. 1 Detail your professional achievements.

Peter Cancro is founder and CEO of Jersey Mike’s Subs. In 1972, Peter was a high school student in Point Pleasant. He began working at the local sandwich shop, Mike's Subs, at the age of 14. He loved the authentic submarine sandwiches. But even more, he loved working behind the counter, interacting with his customers. He took pride in knowing their names and what they ordered.

When Peter was a senior in high school, he overheard the owner of Mike's Subs discussing selling the business. At the age of 17 — before he was legally able to slice a sub — Peter decided to buy the shop. He asked his football coach, who also happened to be a banker, to help him out and, that coach came through and backed his loan.

Today, Jersey Mike’s is a sub sandwich franchise with more than 1,500 stores open and under development nationwide. Jersey Mike's continued its steady growth in 2014 opening 155 new restaurants throughout the country, with unit growth of 20 percent. In 2014, the company reported a system-wide sales increase of 30 percent, to $525 million. Jersey Mike’s wins best sub awards in virtually every market it enters.

Jersey Mike’s was named:

• #1 fastest-growing restaurant chain with more than $200 million in annual systemwide sales (Technomic, 2015). • #1 fastest growing chain two years running (Nation’s Restaurant News Top 100) in 2015 & 2014. • #8 on 2015 Fast Casual Top 100 Movers & Shakers List (FastCasual.com)

Questionnaire Response No. 2 How have these achievements advanced the principles of franchising as a viable business strategy, and its positive visibility?

This amazing growth shows the potential for both a franchisor and franchisees. Jersey Mike’s was founded in 1956 as Mike’s Subs at a time when there were very few franchise restaurants or hamburger, pizza, chicken or taco chains. In fact, the submarine sandwich was a relatively new item in American society at that time. Back then, proprietors or mom-and-pop businesses would open their stores in basic storefront locations. To survive and thrive, they had to offer exceptional quality products, coupled with unparalleled service. This was paramount for Peter and became the platform for future growth.

For years after Peter bought Mike’s, he watched customers come in at the end of the summer to get several giant subs wrapped for travel to carry back to their homes across the country. He saw the opportunity to expand the Jersey Mike’s experience and, in 1987, Peter began franchising. He changed the name from Mike's Subs to Jersey Mike's Subs to capture the authenticity of original store.

Peter Cancro — Jersey Mike’s Subs

This model has served Jersey Mike’s well and has allowed the company to steadily replicate its success nationwide by finding exceptional operators who believe in Peter’s mission to bring customers A Sub Above®, the highest quality, freshest made sub in the industry and give back to their local community.

Questionnaire Response No. 3 List the leadership and/or committee/task force positions you have held in IFA.

(see below for IFA involvement company-wide)

Questionnaire Response No. 4 List other awards and honors bestowed upon you by the franchising community.

 Peter Cancro was presented with IFA’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Feb. 2013  2013 Golden Chain Award Winner by Nation’s Restaurant News  International Foodservice Manufacturers Association (IFMA) first-ever Regional Chain Excellence Award (2009)

Questionnaire Response No. 5 Detail your history of community involvement.

As a young entrepreneur, Peter learned the importance of giving to local causes by following the lead of other more established business people in his community. These mentors helped Peter shape his philosophy that giving was important on a personal level, but also important to business success. Most important to Peter was giving because it was the right thing to do. It’s a philosophy that Peter emphasizes with all Jersey Mike’s store owners: support the community that supports you.

Since 2010, locations throughout the country have raised nearly $13 million for local charities and distributed more than 1 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes. For instance:

 In March 2015, Jersey Mike’s celebrated its 5th Annual “Month of Giving,” a national fundraising campaign, raising more than $3 million for 150 local charities. Since the program started five years ago, Jersey Mike’s and its generous customers have raised more than $8 million.  Since 2012, Jersey Mike’s has raised close to $1 million to support Wreaths Across America. In 2014, more than 700,000 remembrance wreaths were placed in honor of veterans nationally and abroad, including, for the first time, on the graves of every veteran buried at Arlington National Cemetery. All year round, through a variety of programs, Jersey Mike’s franchisees support the military and their families.  In 2014, Jersey Mike's raised $310,000 for local community partners including high schools, hospitals and other worthy organizations as part of fundraisers to celebrate the openings of 155 new locations across the country.

Peter Cancro — Jersey Mike’s Subs

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

Peter’s passion for giving has become contagious among franchisees and, as the law of attraction dictates, it has gotten the attention of many like-minded folks who care about people and want to be part of a greater purpose. The passion has grown to such great heights that this fervor for helping others has become a “must have” personality trait for prospective franchisees.

Peter’s authentic commitment to giving back has been widely recognized and his example has spurred on community outreach throughout the Jersey Mike’s organization. Award examples include:  36th Annual Joshua Huddy Distinguished Citizen Award, The Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America (2009)  Limbs for Life Honoree (2010)  Community Service Award from the Greater Monmouth Chamber of Commerce (2011)  Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey Humanitarian Award (2011)  Susan G. Komen for the Cure® first ever Rookie of the Year Award (2012)  FoodBank Distinguished Citizens Award (2012)  Association for Retarded Citizens Honoree (2012)  Monmouth University’s Distinguished Business Leader (2014)

Despite his title, Peter still jumps behind the counter to test his skills (he is still one of the fastest slicers in the company!) and demonstrate his passion for the product and the customer. He tries to instill that passion in every store he enters and with every franchisee he meets.

Questionnaire Response No. 9 Are there legal, financial or other issues or situations that your selection as the recipient of an IFA award might raise which have the potential to attract negative publicity or attention for the association and/or the franchising industry? Please describe.

Jerry L. Clum, Jr. — Top Ten Percent (TTP Franchising, Inc.)

Questionnaire Response No. 1 Detail your professional achievements.

I have 18 years of franchising experience spanning all facets of franchising from Franchisor Founder/CEO of two franchise systems, Master Franchisee of two states, Franchisee of a dozen franchises, Franchise Consultant to franchisors and as a Franchise Broker.

I am the founder and ex-CEO/President of Comfort Keepers. I founded this company in 1998 and started franchising it in 1999. In less than eight years, I grew the company to nearly 700 locations in 48 states and eight countries with annual revenues in excess of $300 million. I handled all candidate calls, every discovery day and a large portion of the initial training and on-going support. (Since I sold the system, it is now over 750 locations an $350 million annually.)

I've also been a multi-unit franchisee of six franchise brands with a total of twelve franchised locations as well as an equity owner of Master Franchisee of two states. I spent five years as a franchise broker and three years as a franchise consultant to franchisors. I just recently founded a new franchise, Top Ten Percent. In approximately six months we have opened 10 new territories with another 12 under development. I was also bestowed the honor of Ernst and Young's Entrepreneur of the Year 2004 and inducted into the Entrepreneur Hall of Fame.

Questionnaire Response No. 2 How have these achievements advanced the principles of franchising as a viable business strategy, and its positive visibility?

I have been fortunate to have had many successes in franchising and I believe even more fortunate to have seen franchising from nearly all perspectives. Due to my diverse experience and success in franchising, I've become a credible source to both new businesses wanting to franchise their operation and to the ten's of thousands of candidates I've had the pleasure of being able to consult with on the many benefits of franchise ownership. I've personally introduced and assisted well over a thousand individuals into franchise ownership who have created ten's of thousands of jobs and several billion dollars in revenues while dramatically improving their earning potential and lifestyle.

Questionnaire Response No. 3 List the leadership and/or committee/task force positions you have held in IFA.

 Franchisor Forum 2005, 2006

 Marketing Committee (Now Marketing and Technology) 2005, 2006.

Jerry L. Clum, Jr. — Top Ten Percent (TTP Franchising, Inc.)

Questionnaire Response No. 4 List other awards and honors bestowed upon you by the franchising community.

While I feel very lucky to have received many awards over the years, I do not recall any personal awards I've received specifically from the franchising community. The first franchise company I founded, Comfort Keepers, has achieved rankings in the Entrepreneur Franchise 500 as high as #57 on the top 500 list and #1 in it's industry category, #58 in Fastest-Growing, #16 in Top Home-based/Mobile and #55 in America's Top Global Franchises, as well as being #20 in Franchise Gator's Franchise 100. The Franchise Research Institute selected Comfort Keepers as a Certified World-Class Franchise.

Questionnaire Response No. 5 Detail your history of community involvement.

I've been invited to speak at various high schools and elementary schools to teach and encourage youth about the benefits of business and franchise ownership.

I've personally provided significant donations through my church to install over 1,000 water filtration systems in the homes of families in third-world countries and funds to rebuild an associated church in Zimbabwe that was completely destroyed by a hurricane.

I've had my franchised companies sponsor numerous youth baseball programs, built new dugouts and concession stands. I've been actively involved with coaching youth baseball and with the Boy Scouts.

In my current franchise system we have created the TTP Foundation and 10% of our profits are earmarked for local and national charitable causes to include United Way, Feed The Children, Habitat for Humanity, ASPCA, American Cancer Society, Easter Seals, Catholic Charities USA, St. Jude Children Research Hospital, United Jewish Communities, Shriners Hospital and the American Red Cross.

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

I subscribe to the philosophy that you can have everything in life you want if you just help enough other people get what they want and this goes double for community involvement. All the success and money in the world doesn't hold a candle to the feeling you have helping others. Of course, for those community involvement activities that we do under our franchise brand there is the added value to separate your franchise brand from other businesses by showing you're a world-class business and one that gives back to the community.

Jerry L. Clum, Jr. — Top Ten Percent (TTP Franchising, Inc.)

Questionnaire Response No. 7 Provide details on any pertinent legal actions that concern franchise systems with which you have been affiliated.

One of the most concerning proposed changes is the joint employer standard that the National Labor Relations Board has been proposing. This would be devastating to nearly all franchise models. I have taken an educational approach to this problem by writing letters to the congressman in my district and our state senator. I have had lunch meetings with other elected officials to discuss this proposal and to educate them on the serious damage this could cause to the economy. I've found that many did not have a good grasp on how franchised businesses were different than corporately owned and managed locations and often, when they fully understand the differences and the ramification of a policy such as this, they begin to come around.

Questionnaire Response No. 8 Include any other information that you believe may be helpful to IFA in its consideration of you as an honoree.

Authored the now sold-out book, "Zero to $100 Million in Five Years". This book promotes and encourages franchise ownership. Since it has been completely sold out for about nine years now, used copies are selling on Amazon.com for $100-450 each. Best selling author and motivational speaker Brian Tracy as well past IFA President Matthew Shay endorsed this book.

Questionnaire Response No. 9 Are there legal, financial or other issues or situations that your selection as the recipient of an IFA award might raise which have the potential to attract negative publicity or attention for the association and/or the franchising industry? Please describe.

Tariq Farid — Edible Arrangements

Questionnaire Response No. 1 Detail your professional achievements.

I am a living example of the power that franchising can have in helping someone realize their dreams.

As an immigrant to the U.S. from , I watched as my father worked three jobs to support our family. By my mid-teens, I had been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug and while still in high school I opened a flower shop. With family members helping out in the store as needed, my one flower shop soon bloomed into four.

In the process, I realized that the existing software didn’t meet my needs, and created a customized program to organize delivery and other aspects of the business. The software worked so well that I began selling it throughout the floral industry and created a computer company. The company evolved into Netsolace, Inc., which sold software to franchise companies.

My next entrepreneurial effort would change my world and the gift industry forever. It was an inventive take on my flower bouquets made of carefully sculpted fresh-fruit. I launched Edible Arrangements from an East Haven, Conn., storefront in 1999. Two years later we opened our first franchise location. Today the company has more than 1,200 franchise locations around the world.

In addition, in 2014 I purchased franchise software company eMaximation, which has since been rebranded as Naranga, and expanded the suite of services to provide franchise companies with simple, customized solutions to help them drive sales, improve operational efficiency, and easily connect with their franchisees.

Questionnaire Response No. 2 How have these achievements advanced the principles of franchising as a viable business strategy, and its positive visibility?

The global growth of Edible Arrangements through franchising and the success of our franchisees are shining examples of the strength of the franchise business model both as a tool for expansion for the franchisor and a pathway to business ownership for the franchisees. As a result of our success and the popularity of our product, we and our franchisees are frequently sought out by the news media, organizers of industry events and other high-visibility venues to tell our story.

In every case, we take full advantage of these opportunities to promote franchising and the role it has played in our growth and will play in the future. I have recently spoken to business leaders from around the world on the impact of franchising at events such as the Retail & Consumer Goods Executive Summit hosted by the Wharton School of Business and GE Capital’s 4th Annual Middle Market Summit that included more than 1,100 business leaders, policy makers, academics and members of the media. Tariq Farid — Edible Arrangements

Whether being interviewed on a network news program or a local newspaper, I use every opportunity to promote franchising and the impact it has had on my life and the life of small business owners everywhere.

Questionnaire Response No. 3 List the leadership and/or committee/task force positions you have held in IFA.

I have successfully completed the Certified Franchise Executive program. I have also facilitated multiple leadership and speaking sessions at various IFA conferences.

I have contributed to and supported FranPAC and the IFA Educational Foundation.

I am a founding sponsor of the IFA’s NextGen program and earlier this year shared my experiences in franchising with the winners of the Young Entrepreneurs in Franchising Competition.

Questionnaire Response No. 4 List other awards and honors bestowed upon you by the franchising community.

 2008 IFA Entrepreneur of the Year  2009 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in Retail and Consumer Products in Metro New York  2011 Board of Governors of the Institute of Franchise Executives Certified Franchise Executive

Questionnaire Response No. 5 Detail your history of community involvement.

Community involvement is near and dear to my heart. When my mother passed away in 2000, I started the Salma K. Farid Foundation in her memory. The organization has built a school in her name in my birthplace of Sahiwal, Pakistan and also a hospital in the same town that provides free medicine and healthcare to over 30,000 people annually. I also serve on the board of American Halal.

In addition, my private charitable foundation, the Tariq Farid Foundation, had contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars that have benefited numerous programs and services in the U.S. and internationally, including hospitals, schools, community centers, soup kitchens, revitalization efforts as well as organizations fighting poverty, childhood cancer and promoting leadership opportunities for youth.

Within Edible Arrangements we launched “Hero’s Welcome,” a nationwide initiative designed to help veterans become business owners and re-enter the Tariq Farid — Edible Arrangements workforce. We also donated $125,000 to VetFran. In addition to offering military veterans discounts on their franchise fee and mentoring from franchisees who are veterans, we also set goal of hiring a minimum of 1,000 military veterans in our stores, and providing each a pathway for career development.

I also contributed $75,000 to support the first-ever IFA technology conference in Atlanta.

Finally, through our Edible Cares umbrella program, Edible Arrangements and our franchisees are involved in hundreds of community involvement programs ranging from straight cash contributions to donations of fresh fruit to area food banks to participation in fundraising events and support a variety of causes and foundations.

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

Beyond the impact on the community, each of these programs brings heightened awareness to Edible Arrangements and, as a result, to the impact that a franchise company can have both locally and on a global scale. Through our Hero’s Welcome program and VetFran affiliation, especially, we are able to promote the many opportunities that franchising provides individuals and the resulting impact they can have on their community.

Questionnaire Response No. 7 Provide details on any pertinent legal actions that concern franchise systems with which you have been affiliated.

As with any franchise system, there are occasionally issues and concerns that are raised by franchisees. Edible Arrangements is no different and in each situation we work closely with the franchisees to resolve the issue internally.

Questionnaire Response No. 8 Include any other information that you believe may be helpful to IFA in its consideration of you as an honoree.

As I have stated on numerous occasions during appearances on national news programs and to national news outlets, I am a living example that the American Dream is alive and well. I immigrated to the as a child and was able to turn a small shop in into a global chain with more than 1,200 locations worldwide. In the process, Edible Arrangements created a new category within a highly competitive industry. None of this could have been accomplished if not for franchising and the opportunities it creates for both the franchisor and the franchisee. I have always been -- and will continue to be – an advocate and champion for the franchising model due to the opportunities it provides for individuals, this country and the global community each and every day.

Tariq Farid — Edible Arrangements

Russ Frith—Former CEO, Lawn Doctor

Questionnaire Response No. 1 Detail your professional achievements.

 Acme Markets Inc. with whom I was promoted several times to various management positions and was the youngest person to achieve the role of store supervisor responsible for all store operations.  I was the US and Canadian Marketing Manager for Cottman Transmissions and was a major player in helping grow Cottman to the largest Transmission Company in Canada.  The majority of my professional career was with Lawn Doctor Inc. starting as Director of Marketing and advancing to President & CEO. During my tenure the company grew from about 20 units to just under 500 units and became the largest lawn care franchisor in the US. I continue to serve of Lawn Doctor's Board of Directors.

Questionnaire Response No. 2 How have these achievements advanced the principles of franchising as a viable business strategy, and its positive visibility?

During my career I have always maintained a philosophy that franchisees are my business partners and that any franchise system could only grow if both parties could benefit from corporate decisions. This approach allowed both franchisees and franchisor to focus on growing the revenue stream verses how to divide it. As a result the franchisees in our system promoted franchising as a viable means to achieve personal success.

Questionnaire Response No. 3 List the leadership and/or committee/task force positions you have held in IFA.

I have held many leadership positions at the IFA;

 Chairman of IFA  Board member of IFA  Member of the IFA Executive Committee  Treasurer of IFA for 12 years  Chairman of the Finance Audit & Budget  Member of an earlier strategic planning committee  Chairman of the Awards Committee  Chairman of the Nominating Committee Chairman of the Convention Committee Chairman Past Chairman's Council  Member of IFA Education Foundation Board of Trustees  Treasurer of the IFA Educational Foundation

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

Many of the above activities were givebacks to the community and only benefited franchising to the extent that I was able to talk about franchising in an informal way. What did create a positive awareness in a more formal environment were my lectures at the three universities listed above. There I was able to talk about the benefits of franchising and have positive impact on some bright young minds.

Questionnaire Response No. 7 Provide details on any pertinent legal actions that concern franchise systems with which you have been affiliated.

Russ Frith—Former CEO, Lawn Doctor

Questionnaire Response No. 8 Include any other information that you believe may be helpful to IFA in its consideration of you as an honoree.

I believe that my long term involvement in the IFA has made a material difference in were the IFA is today. I was instrumental in moving IFA from a position of no money or long term view of its role to one of financial stability and focused objectives. I was also a board member when we cast the vote for franchisee inclusion.

Questionnaire Response No. 9 Are there legal, financial or other issues or situations that your selection as the recipient of an IFA award might raise which have the potential to attract negative publicity or attention for the association and/or the franchising industry? Please describe.

I have no legal of financial issues that would cast a negative light on franchising or the IFA.

John Galardi — Galardi Group Inc.

Questionnaire Response No. 1 Detail your professional achievements.

Mr. John Galardi was a pioneer among his peers in the Southern California fast food era of the 1950s and 1960s. Along with Ray Kroc of McDonald’s, Glen Bell of Taco Bell and the Snyder’s of the popular In n’ Out chain, John was instrumental in developing the first drive through restaurant as a result of constantly re-engineering his hot dog operation to better serve customers with greater efficiency and a tasty, hot product.

Questionnaire Response No. 2 How have these achievements advanced the principles of franchising as a viable business strategy, and its positive visibility?

John (like many entrepreneurs) was never satisfied with just one or two locations. He realized that the best way to grow his chain was through franchising. Between 1961 when he officially opened his first location in Southern California until 1971 the chain saw tremendous growth to almost 400 locations within the decade. The franchise model assisted in this growth spurt and with his proven business model for serving up delicious Hot Dogs at value pricing, did the chain take off as it did!

Questionnaire Response No. 3 List the leadership and/or committee/task force positions you have held in IFA.

Mr. Galardi passed away in the Spring of 2013. As the Director of Franchise Development, I am currently on the IFA International Committee to assist with the development and marketing of using international markets as a means to spur growth beyond our domestic borders.

Questionnaire Response No. 4 List other awards and honors bestowed upon you by the franchising community.

Mr. Galardi and Wienerschnitzel have been a spot light brand ranked by Franchise Times on numerous occasions as well as voted Best Fast Food in Los Angeles in addition to receiving several “Telly” awards in advertising for excellence in TV commercials.

Questionnaire Response No. 5 Detail your history of community involvement.

Wienerschnitzel is deeply rooted in the Southern California community, especially Orange Courty where the corporate headquarters are located. The County of Orange provided recognition to Wienerschnitzel on its 50th anniversary in 2011. Furthermore, Wienerschnitzel is involved in CHOC (Children’s John Galardi — Galardi Group Inc.

Hospital of Orange County) where every Christmas season the entire corporate office goes and serves free Hot Dogs to the children, their families and hospital staff who care for these ill children.

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

Through brand awareness by being in the public spotlight through these philanthropic efforts, it helps to highlight that anyone who has the desire and initiative to become a small business owner can do so through proven business models provided through a franchised system.

Questionnaire Response No. 7 Provide details on any pertinent legal actions that concern franchise systems with which you have been affiliated.

Currently in the State of California there is litigation whereby plaintiff contends that the franchisor acted as an employer versus an independent entity that has significant legal implication on franchise systems not only throughout California but also for the entire franchise industry. As a member of the ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers), we are helping to fight such litigation and legislation that is not business friendly.

Questionnaire Response No. 8 Include any other information that you believe may be helpful to IFA in its consideration of you as an honoree.

John Galardi was truly a pioneer if only by the company he kept. His close friendship with Glen Bell truly elevated his position as a franchise ambassador. To be associated with giants in this fast food niche speaks volumes of who he was as an individual.

Questionnaire Response No. 9 Are there legal, financial or other issues or situations that your selection as the recipient of an IFA award might raise which have the potential to attract negative publicity or attention for the association and/or the franchising industry? Please describe.

None that I am aware of.

Questionnaire Response No. 2 How have these achievements advanced the principles of franchising as a viable business strategy, and its positive visibility?

Many if not all of these accomplishments are direct expressions of my appreciation of the franchising model and the opportunities it creates for enterprising individuals to get involved in a business of their own while having the support, systems and expertise of a “partner” in their operations who

Cynthia Gartman—IKOR, USA continually strives to perfect the business concept being franchised. They are similarly examples of my philosophy that well-developed franchise systems lead to more successful and happy franchisees, which leads to bigger and better franchise systems in a continuing cycle.

Along these lines, I am proud of my role in establishing the IFA’s Fran-Guard program. As Chair of the ICFE Board of Governors and Chair of the Fran- Guard Committee, I led a group of expert volunteers in creating an improved compliance program that the IFA could roll out in various venues and through several different mediums. The program launched in 2010. Aimed at presenting a clear and profitable business case for compliance, the program demonstrates that the franchise industry has the ability to self-regulate and does not need outside regulatory forces coming to bear upon it. I moderated sessions at IFA Conventions and Legal Roundtables in the last few years (about 16 presentations in all) and, with the assistance of other presenters, offered the Business Case for compliance to each attendee. We also created a “Train the Provider” process through which IFA members can become Fran- Guard providers and offer this program to more individuals. To date, we have trained more than 400 people from 185 companies.

I have been active in state and national guardianship associations as well as several local guardianship organizations in Texas and Pennsylvania. These

Cynthia Gartman—IKOR, USA organizations help ensure the protection of seniors and the disabled. I am active in my local church, Mt. Vernon Mennonite Church, volunteering regularly in the Currency Commission, women’s ministry and missions work as well as teaching Sunday School.

I was a founding member of the Board of Directors of Parenting Alone, a 503c organization aimed at providing support and ministry to single-parent families. I served on this Board until 2009. I have also served on other boards, such as The Mediation Council, was a Girl Scout Leader, Recording Secretary for a previous church and a counselor with the Camp Fire Girls.

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

It has been my long-held belief that two critical factors in the success of any franchise system are the strength and reputation of the franchise community as a whole. Driven by that belief, I have for many years committed time to participating in industry initiatives in addition to fulfilling the responsibilities of my position as a franchise executive. As an example, I was a member of the IFA Minorities in Franchising Committee from 1998 to 2009, and served as its Chairman in 2008. Throughout my tenure with this committee, we worked to foster franchise relationships and improve the number and success of minority participants in franchising, particularly with respect to franchisees. I am proud of the minority representation at IKOR even though we are a small system.

Since January 2009 I have been heading up the IFA’s Fran-Guard™ program, an initiative being developed under the supervision and guidance of the ICFE Board of Governors. The Fran-Guard program is a revised and expanded franchise sales management and compliance program. Through this program, we demonstrate that when a strong business case for compliance is present inside a franchise organization, stronger franchisor-franchisee relations will be built. The program also was created to demonstrate that the franchise community has the ability to self-regulate and does not need outside regulatory forces coming to bear upon it. I have moderated more than 16 Fran-Guard sessions over the past four years.

Franchising opens a world of opportunity to a wide spectrum of people. At Liberty Tax, we have been able to attract individuals from very different career paths and social strata who have embraced our model and found great success as small business owners. This includes military veterans, working moms, recent immigrants, CPAs, former athletes, and more. They have prospered and their success has attracted media attention and positive spotlight on franchising and how it can lift individuals and families from their current circumstances to new and rewarding heights. Our franchisees’ success combined with the company’s success demonstrate to all onlookers and prospective business owners that franchising is a viable business strategy.

Hunger is the world’s No. 1 health risk, according to World Food Programme. That reality and my abiding belief that the fortunate must give back put me on a mission to end world hunger. I co-founded Stop Hunger Now with the Rev. Ray Buchanan and Run for Food International. Stop Hunger Now was actively involved in efforts to aid Haiti after the massive earthquake in 2010. Along with my financial contribution, Liberty Tax offices across the country made donations for every tax return prepared in their offices. Run for Food International has the same goal, but it is working to end hunger one country at a time. We’ve begun that work in Nicaragua.

Giving permeates our corporate culture and our franchisees’ operations. At our corporate offices, employees are engaged in efforts to help their communities. We are a National Sponsor of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and a National Premier Partner for Cell Phones for Soldiers. At the franchisee level, we’ve helped people and communities across the country. In Texas, we’ve helped men in a halfway house get back on their feet by employing them in our stores. Across North Carolina, we’ve raised money to donate to the food bank. John T. Hewitt — Liberty Tax Service

In 2010, we created Una Familia Sin Fronteras to provide educational courses and life skills workshops for recent immigrants and others in the Hispanic community. The foundation has partnerships have included the White House Initiative on Education Excellence and the U.S. Department of Education.

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

Across the United States and Canada, people in communities large and small see Liberty Tax franchisees actively engaged in raising money for good causes, hiring people who are down on their luck, helping their neighbors and participating in local events. This activity demonstrates that franchise stores are not fly-by-night operations that come into a community solely to profit. Franchisees have roots in the community and a stake in making their neighborhoods a better place for all.

A CEO can have the vision for a company and a company can provide the tools for franchisees, but it is in the success of franchisees that we realize what we have been able to accomplish. Michael & Marian Ilitch — Little Caesars

Questionnaire Response No. 1 Detail your professional achievements.

Michael and Marian Ilitch, the founders of Little Caesars, dreamed big, took risks and grew one pizza shop in Garden City, Michigan into an international pizza chain. They invested their life savings toward opening a single Little Caesars pizza shop in 1959. To grow the chain, Mike and Marian franchised their stores. That decision, and the growth of Little Caesars as a global franchise has provided business opportunities for many individual franchisees to operate their own family businesses, while at the same time providing employment opportunities for many thousands of individuals both in stores and the corporate office.

The rapid growth of the company continues today. In fact, Little Caesars is the world’s fastest growing pizza chain in the U.S, the largest carryout-only pizza chain in the world, and an internationally known brand, with locations in all 50 states and 18 countries and territories worldwide.

Little Caesars success has been fueled by innovation, even from day one. When they opened their doors in 1959, people thought a carry out restaurant without tables and chairs would fail, but Mike and Marian’s innovative idea paid off. Since then, Little Caesars has a long history of industry first and innovation including pioneering a two-for-one pizza deal later known as Pizza!Pizza!® Mr. Ilitch developed a conveyor oven specially designed to bake pizza quickly and consistently to keep up with customer demand. He created unique products like Crazy Bread®, which became a standard accompaniment to pizza and was mimicked by other pizza chains. Little Caesars also broke the status quo in introducing the revolutionary $5 HOT-N- READY concept, making pizzas ready when customers walk in, with no need to call ahead or wait in line. More recently, Little Caesars was also the first national chain to introduce Detroit-style deep dish pizza (DEEP!DEEP! Dish), a pretzel crust pizza, and a bacon wrapped pizza to its menu nationwide.

The success of Little Caesars allowed Mike and Marian to own other successful businesses in the food, sports and entertainment industries, including the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, Fox Theatre, Olympia Entertainment, Olympia Development, Blue Line Foodservice Distribution, Champion Foods, Ilitch Holdings, Inc., Little Caesars Pizza Kit Fundraising Program, and a variety of venues within these entities.

Questionnaire Response No. 2 How have these achievements advanced the principles of franchising as a viable business strategy, and its positive visibility?

Entrepreneurs thrive in the Little Caesars system because our support services focus on franchisee's business. For franchisees and franchise candidates, Little Caesars is rapidly expanding in markets throughout the world, providing an opportunity for independence in a franchise system. In addition, Little Caesars supports its franchisees through strong brand awareness with one of the most recognized brand characters in the country, Little Caesar.

Little Caesars Pizza is recognized among the value leaders in the foodservice industry. We pride ourselves on our winning concept and products that uniquely meet customers’ needs and create a strong value proposition. Being a value-based brand has had a positive impact on the company, its Michael & Marian Ilitch — Little Caesars franchisees, and customers. For an unprecedented 8th year, Little Caesars has been named the “Best Value in America” among all major quick serve restaurant chains (Sandelman Research Quick Track Awards of Excellence). Little Caesars is constantly listening to our customers to make sure they get the most out of their experience with us.

Little Caesars innovative Hot-N-Ready concept has changed the competitive landscape. Customers really love our HOT-N-READY products, which can only be found at Little Caesars Pizza. Many customers don’t want to wait for their meal, so our unique position in the pizza segment gives us an advantage over our competitors. The Hot-N-Ready concept also translates into a simple operating model for our franchisees.

Little Caesars long history of innovation extends to franchising. For instance, the chain built stores where pizza was never served before, such as in sports arenas, college dormitories, and military bases – many of these long before the competition.

Questionnaire Response No. 3 List the leadership and/or committee/task force positions you have held in IFA.

Mr. Ilitch has encouraged Little Caesars employees to be actively involved in the IFA. This includes regularly attending the IFA's Annual Conference, the IFA Legal Symposium and the Public Affairs Conference (together with our franchisee of the year). Our executives have spoken at the IFA Annual Conference. For example, two of our executives spoke at the IFA Annual Conference this year and one was on the Annual Conference Committee. Employees of Little Caesars have participated in the CFE program. Our executives have also contributed articles to IFA’s magazine, Franchising World.

At the heart of Little Caesars philosophy is a deep commitment to its franchisees, colleagues, and community members. In addition to efforts made by individual restaurants worldwide, Little Caesars Pizza is true to its belief in giving back to the communities in which it serves.

Little Caesars Pizza and its franchisees are dedicated to countless organizations throughout the world. Our restaurants participate in school-related programs and have supported worthwhile charities, as well as community and neighborhood programs, through restaurant-sponsored fundraisers and in- store functions. Many of our franchisees and employees volunteer their time for numerous charitable causes and have raised millions of dollars all over the world.

One of the most significant corporate programs Little Caesars Pizza has funded is an award-winning, nationally recognized program called the Little Caesars Love Kitchen. Established by Little Caesars in 1985, the Little Caesars Love Kitchen is a mobile kitchen on wheels. It has traveled throughout the country for more than 30 years providing meals to more than three million homeless, hungry and displaced families. Local Little Caesars franchise owners and company regional offices donate all food and labor costs for the Love Kitchen servings. An estimated 50,000 Little Caesars franchise owners and employees have volunteered their time over the years to support the program in their local communities. In addition to its regular servings at local shelters, the Little Caesars Love Kitchen has also responded to disasters such as tornadoes and hurricanes, as well as the site of the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and the 1995 Federal Building bombing in Oklahoma City. Former Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush awarded The President's Volunteer Action Award Citation to Little Caesars for its volunteers' contributions to the Love Kitchen. Little Caesars also received a Presidential Citation for Private Sector Initiatives for the Love Kitchen program under the Reagan administration. It has received a certificate of appreciation from the State of Michigan, was recognized by the Detroit City Council for its efforts in the Gulf Coast region and Michael & Marian Ilitch — Little Caesars most recently received Congressional Recognition from the Michigan House of Representatives for its 30 years of service to the communities in which it operates.

In 2006, Little Caesars introduced the Little Caesars Veterans Program as a way to thank our vets for the service they and their families have given to our country. The program provides franchise business opportunities to qualified, honorably discharged veterans transitioning to civilian life or seeking a career change.

Michael and Marian Ilitch began sponsorship of amateur hockey in the 1960s and started sponsoring the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League in 1978. The league was created to increase the level of competitive play and provide more opportunities for metro Detroit youth hockey players. Little Caesars Hockey Program has grown into the nation’s largest amateur youth ice hockey league, and includes the AAA Hockey Club, Travel Hockey and the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL).

The Ilitch family also established a non-profit foundation called Ilitch Charities in 2000. Ilitch Charities invests in our community's future by supporting innovative, collaborative, and measurable programs in the areas of community development, human services, education, and recreation through contributions from the Ilitch companies, their colleagues, and the generosity of others.

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

Michael Ilitch is recognized locally and nationally as a deeply committed community leader and has accomplished many great things for the community through his humanitarian spirit and personal dedication. His success with Little Caesars has made it all possible. Mr. Ilitch has shown by example that Detroit is an excellent place to do business and that the Little Caesars franchise is an outstanding business opportunity around the world.

He’s encouraged Little Caesars franchisees to share his love helping others and reach out to the communities where we do business. Little Caesars participate in school related programs and have raised thousands of dollars for worthwhile charities, as well as community and neighborhood programs, through restaurant-sponsored fundraisers and in-store functions. Furthermore, many of franchisees and employees volunteer their time for numerous charitable causes and have raised millions of dollars all over the world.

Questionnaire Response No. 7 Provide details on any pertinent legal actions that concern franchise systems with which you have been affiliated. As with any franchisor-franchisee relationship, there have been some challenges throughout the years. But Michael Ilitch has personally met each challenge head-on with truth, honesty and a commitment to resolve the issue quickly and fairly. He recognizes there must be a team approach taken that can benefit both parties. Mr. Ilitch encourages very open and frequent communication within the franchise system. Franchisees are included in the decision making process through various corporate-franchisee committees. Michael & Marian Ilitch — Little Caesars

Questionnaire Response No. 8 Include any other information that you believe may be helpful to IFA in its consideration of you as an honoree.

Franchising is built on the same relationship principles that families grow from. Michael and Marian Ilitch raised their 7 children with the same family values that became the Little Caesars philosophy.

In spite of his numerous successes, Michael Ilitch has remained humble. He possesses a high degree of honesty and integrity and is a shining example of what hard work, dedication and perseverance can achieve. He willingly shares his success with employees by providing a fun environment in which to work with competitive benefits and tremendous growth opportunities. Franchisees have been able to operate successful businesses for themselves due to the strong Little Caesars brand created by innovative and successful marketing and a quality product at a great value. Mr. Ilitch’s eagerness to help our nation’s youth and those less fortunate speaks volumes about his caring heart and community spirit. Mr. Ilitch would be fitting to be inducted into the IFA Hall of Fame and a testament to the type of individual that brings pride to the franchise community.

Jo Kirchner — Primrose Schools, Inc.

Questionnaire Response No. 1 Detail your professional achievements.

As president and CEO of Primrose Schools®, I oversee strategic direction and manage the franchise company’s vision to deliver the best and most trusted education and care for children and families across the country. I guide new business development and brand strategy while leading quality, sustainable and profitable growth for the hundreds of Primrose schools our franchise owners operate.

My career with Primrose Schools began more than two decades ago as vice president. I was later promoted to senior vice president before becoming president and CEO in 1999. Since then, I have grown the brand from four schools in metro Atlanta to more than 300 schools coast-to-coast, serving more than 48,000 children.

As a member of our Education Advisory Board, I helped pioneer our Balanced Learning® curriculum. The research-based curriculum is consistently and systemically delivered in all our schools. Primrose was selected to partner with AdvancED to develop and pilot new Standards for Quality Early Learning Schools and was the first to earn AdvancED Corporation Systems Accreditation under these standards in 2012.

I serve on several boards for organizations including Reach Out and Read, AdvancED and the Early Care and Education Consortium (ECEC). With the ECEC board, I recently visited the White House to discuss the importance of early education curriculum with the Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

Additionally, I established the Primrose Promise, a corporate social responsibility program that brings our curriculum to at-risk children and founded the Primrose Children’s Foundation that provides support to not-for-profit organizations benefitting children.

Questionnaire Response No. 2 How have these achievements advanced the principles of franchising as a viable business strategy, and its positive visibility?

The growth of Primrose Schools from just four schools in Georgia more than 30 years ago to now more than 300 schools coast-to-coast has only been made possible by strategic focus and application of successful business principles. These principles including investing in an opportunity where you’ll see the greatest return; creating a consistent delivery model that ensures quality; and, collaborating with key stakeholders, are what have helped me guide the company to where it is today.

I have taken these same business principles and applied them to the Primrose franchising model. With national focus on high-quality early education and care for children, demand for high-quality providers has grown. I believe it is incumbent upon Primrose as the industry leader to respond to this demand by opening more high-quality schools. In 2014, we expanded in six new states, opening 19 schools and awarding 45 new franchise agreements. Furthermore, through a national partnership with Save the Children, we are also providing resources to at-risk children. Through our national franchise Jo Kirchner — Primrose Schools, Inc. structure, we are creating positive and systemic change that reaches far beyond our schools.

I’m confident these efforts will bring positive visibility to the franchising industry and showcase the viability and influence of a franchise business model.

Primrose Schools was recently named as a Top 200 Franchise to Buy in 2015 by Forbes, and the fifth best to buy in the $500,000+ category. We were also listed as #146 on the 2014 list of the Top 200 Franchises issued by Franchise Times each year. And, I was recognized among the Top 24 Women in Franchising by Franchising Update.

I have also received a number of awards and honors for entrepreneurship and business leadership including receiving the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) Award in 2014 in the Community Service category. And, recently, I was named among the Top 10 for the 2015 John C. Maxwell Leadership Awards. Additionally, in 2010, I received the first International Excellence in Education Award and was selected to serve on the AdvancED International Board of Trustees in 2012, becoming the first individual to represent early childhood education.

In 2011, I received Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the southeast region and was named Female Executive of the Year with a Gold Stevie® Award for Women in Business in 2013. Both of these awards recognizes the achievements of women executives, entrepreneurs and the organizations they run.

Questionnaire Response No. 5 Detail your history of community involvement.

I have been extremely dedicated to advancing education for all children, which has led to multiple partnerships for Primrose Schools and many servant leadership roles in which I serve.

In 2014, Primrose Schools formed a multi-year partnership with Save the Children to focus on early literacy, child sponsorship and protection from harm for at-risk children in America. We understand the incredible value of corporate social responsibility and feel called to change the course of education beyond our franchise schools by advocating for better access to quality early education resources. I also have the honor of serving on the Board of Jo Kirchner — Primrose Schools, Inc.

Directors for Reach Out and Read, a national non-profit that partners with pediatricians to promote early literacy and school readiness to four million children nationwide. The Primrose Children’s Foundation has been able to raise and donate more than $1.2 million to Reach Out and Read, placing more than 250,000 books directly in the hands of at-risk children.

Additionally, I serve on the executive committee of the Early Care and Education Consortium, a non-profit alliance connecting America’s national, regional and independent providers of high-quality child care and early education programs. Locally, I am an active member and partner with the Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students (GEEARS).

Furthermore, from coast-to-coast, across all of our franchise school locations, Primrose children, families, staff and Franchise Owners raise money and donate items throughout the year to various local causes. Last year alone, Primrose schools raised more than $500,000 for charities in their communities.

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

Now more than ever, the focus on the importance of high-quality early education for all children is strong. This, in turn, has created an opportunity for early educational franchisors to respond. Through my own community involvement and partnerships, I’ve been able to bring awareness to this national issue and successfully position Primrose to respond to the demand.

And, as a franchise company, we’re able to respond more quickly to the demands whether through establishing more early education and care centers or through our systemic structure that provides additional resources to the communities where our schools operate. Moreover, through our Service Excellence Assurance program, we ensure high-quality and consistent standards across each of our Primrose schools. Our teachers receive extensive training that is updated every year, as well as ongoing mentoring to keep them abreast of current research and best practices to ensure our children are receiving the best education possible. This attention to the quality of the business Primrose provides brings positive awareness to the franchise industry as a whole.

Questionnaire Response No. 7 Provide details on any pertinent legal actions that concern franchise systems with which you have been affiliated.

I have not been affiliated with any pertinent legal actions concerning franchise systems.

Jo Kirchner — Primrose Schools, Inc.

Questionnaire Response No. 8 Include any other information that you believe may be helpful to IFA in its consideration of you as an honoree.

According to FRANdata and the Franchise Business Review, only 38 percent of franchised enterprises remain after five years. At Primrose, our Franchise Owners are viewed as CEOs of their independently owned and operated schools and many have been a part of our company for more than 10 years.

We do this is by choosing Franchise Owners who are passionate about the opportunity and more importantly the focus and direction of our company. We look for Franchise Owners who understand and value the same business principles that have helped drive the Primrose brand, in turn furthering the growth of the business.

Primrose Franchise Owners stay because of the success they find not only with an average school annual revenue of approximately $1.6 million; but, also, with the personal benefits they receive in contributing to a greater cause by helping our children build the right foundation for future learning and life. Additionally, earlier this year, we celebrated the highest full-time enrollment rate in Primrose’s history which was well over the industry average, proving the success of our franchise model and demand for more quality early education schools in our country.

I’ve made it my mission to continue to draw on bright and passionate entrepreneurs to grow the Primrose Schools Franchise Company through purposeful innovation and transformation.

Questionnaire Response No. 9 Are there legal, financial or other issues or situations that your selection as the recipient of an IFA award might raise which have the potential to attract negative publicity or attention for the association and/or the franchising industry? Please describe.

No. There are no legal, financial or other issues neither myself nor Primrose Schools are involved in that may attract negative publicity or attention for the IFA or franchising industry.

Questionnaire Response No. 2 How have these achievements advanced the principles of franchising as a viable business strategy, and its positive visibility?

VetFran is an important connection for Veterans, especially those transitioning from military to civilian careers. Much remains to be done to enhance this program, and I am looking forward to playing an active role in expanding it as Chairman.

As president of ISBN, I got the CEOs of Great Clips and Fantastic Sams on our Board of Directors, joining Regis Corp. and Sport Clips as franchised business representatives. This helped to raise the profile of franchised salons in the haircare industry to a significant degree.

In my work with the VFW, and through Sport Clips’ successful Help A Hero program, we’ve been able to show the public a strong example of local business Gordon Logan — Sport Clips, Inc. men and women giving back through their franchises, and making a difference.

Of the six winners of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year award (Central Texas), I was the only one who started a franchise company. To receive the award was a true honor, and I was glad to have the opportunity to represent our industry among this group of successful entrepreneurs.

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

We are dedicated to giving back to our communities, with a focus on kids and veterans. Our involvement has helped raise positive awareness of franchising by unselfishly donating time and money to these causes. By participating in these causes, Sport Clips stores, including my personal stores in the Austin, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada areas, are showing how franchises are in a unique position to make a positive impact at both the community-level, as individual stores, and at the national-level, when they come together as a system.

For national campaigns, such as Help A Hero and the American Red Cross, Sport Clips, Inc. equips franchisees to support these causes by providing fundraising tools, such as donation canisters, in-store signage, communication tools, fundraising giveaways, themed wearables, and more. Further support for the campaigns are provided by Sport Clips’ marketing team members, in conjunction with our partners, who work together to ensure the causes are communicated publicly using an integrated method - TV, radio, web assets, social media, news media outreach (including franchise industry media), etc. In communicating Sport Clips’ support of these worthy causes, we are also working to show how “franchising gives back”!

Questionnaire Response No. 7 Provide details on any pertinent legal actions that concern franchise systems with which you have been affiliated.

Other than minor routine legal actions that come with the territory in franchising (or any other business), we have involvement with very few legal issues. We do not currently have any active litigation.

Questionnaire Response No. 8 Include any other information that you believe may be helpful to IFA in its consideration of you as an honoree.

I started as a franchisee of Command Performance salons in 1979 and served on the Creditors’ Committee during that franchisor’s Chapter 11. I was subsequently elected to the Board of Directors to represent franchisees for two terms in the 1980s. Later, I was elected President and Executive Director of our franchisee association, which was disbanded after another franchisee and I bought the franchisor in 1991. We helped the franchisees of that system make an orderly exit from a failed system before starting Sport Clips in 1993, with our first prototype salon. After two years, I began franchising in November 1995 with no outside funding, and today, our family controls 90+ percent of the company (some key employees own the balance).

We have always put a high value on training and support, which is validated by our success rate… only four stores closed since 2010, and two of those were leases not renewed due to shopping centers having problems with anchors closing. We have almost 1,400 locations in the U.S. and Canada, and are proud to be opening in our 50th state in July.

Questionnaire Response No. 9 Are there legal, financial or other issues or situations that your selection as the recipient of an IFA award might raise which have the potential to attract negative publicity or attention for the association and/or the franchising industry? Please describe.

Greg Longe—Clean Brands - bizzie - 1800 Dry Clean

Questionnaire Response No. 1 Detail your professional achievements.

I have spent the 3 decades in franchising. I have worked for Ziebart for 11 Years, rising from an entry level position to the executive committee, responsible for World Wide Development and two of the first automotive co-brand developments in existence. I’ve held the position of CEO at Molly Maid and Mr. Handyman simultaneously. The latter of which I started from the first franchisee. I’ve co-founded my own companies under my “AFS” umbrella and purchased and developed AutoQual and Drive N Style which I developed into national brands and then sold to Driven Brands and Ken Walker. I co-founded Dryer Vent Wizard, starting with the first franchisee and sold it to my partners in December after serving as the only CEO for 8 years. I also purchased Zoup of North America, HandyPro International and more than doubled their size before selling them back to their founders. I purchased Rooster’s Mens Grooming Centers and tripled their size before selling it to Regis in 2010. I stayed on as president until December of 2012. I currently hold the position of COO at The Huntington Company, a multi-concept franchisor including the following franchises; 1-800-DryClean, bizziebox, Pressed4Time and Martinizing, in an effort to change the dry cleaning industry. I developed the first ever Franchise Management degree at Northwood University from conception, to IFA introduction, accreditation and announcement at this year’s convention. Through the years my greatest professional accomplishments have been my involvement in the development of close to one thousand self-employment careers and professional careers in the franchise industry. For that I’m am truly grateful and honored.

Questionnaire Response No. 2 How have these achievements advanced the principles of franchising as a viable business strategy, and its positive visibility?

In many of the journeys above, I franchised new industries such as Mr. Handyman, HandyPro, (HP’s business format includes aging in place remodeling for seniors and people with debilitating diseases. Never done before in a handy man environment). Other new industry’s with small niche’s like Dry Vent Wizard and Rooster’s Men’s Grooming we proved could be franchised and served as self-employment careers. Most of the companies above were new industries or niche markets in existing industries proving the franchising model many times over. Now in its third year, the new degree at Northwood will bring new young talent to our industry every year!

Questionnaire Response No. 3 List the leadership and/or committee/task force positions you have held in IFA.

Since 1990, I’ve managed countless panel discussions, seminars and workshops with the latest project the new Northwood Degree accomplished through the hard work of the NU staff and countless hours of involvement by John Reynolds and the IFA Educational Committees.

Questionnaire Response No. 4 List other awards and honors bestowed upon you by the franchising community.

I was unanimously elected to the Dryer Vent Wizard Hall of Fame. Prior to that most of the awards I’ve received were special achievement awards from my friends at Service Brands, Ziebart International, the brands I’ve built through the years and many awards for performance from Franchoice and Frannet, Greg Longe—Clean Brands - bizzie - 1800 Dry Clean

Franchise Buyer and Matchpoint.

My CFE will be complete in August 2015.

Questionnaire Response No. 5 Detail your history of community involvement.

I am currently a member of several non- profit boards. In the city of Detroit, I’m on the executive board of the Detroit Pastoral Council, comprised of clergy and business people producing and on-going effort to keep the Catholic Church open in the city. I created and co-chair the franchise advisory committee for the franchise management degree at Northwood University. The first of its kind. I’m very active in the franchise community helping fellow franchisors around the state of Michigan and others in the industry.

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

I think the most important project to heighten the positive awareness of the franchise industry is the work on the NU degree. I brought the idea to NU and 18 months later we have the first ever degree. The degree is both a major and a minor and soon will be in all 3 campuses around the country. Next will be the adult education programs both on line and in class rooms for franchising and through NU. I was fortunate to participate in the dedication of a new NU building in south eastern Michigan and interviewed on the news about the degree and NU.

Questionnaire Response No. 7 Provide details on any pertinent legal actions that concern franchise systems with which you have been affiliated.

Throughout the years I’ve only been party to one issue. During the financial crisis of 2008/2009 we lost arbitration to a disgruntled franchisee that landed what was left of an automotive company tied to cars sales in bankruptcy. Both Micheal Seid and Lane Fisher and countless staff and friends can attest to the fact that I had no personal wrong doing in the issue. The name of the franchise was Collision on Wheels. All matters have been settled between me, the franchisee and the trustee without any wrong doing on my part.

Questionnaire Response No. 8 Include any other information that you believe may be helpful to IFA in its consideration of you as an honoree.

I’ve dedicated my life to franchising and I’m a long way from done. I’ve owned a number of very successful franchise companies, I’ve operated several successful franchises myself and with my family and through it all I’ve focused on the people. The staff, the franchisees, their staff, our vendors and fellow franchise industry professionals. I’ve always tried to make time for the people for without which there is no industry or business in franchising. It always has been a relationship, human resource business and industry.

Ron’s business and franchising experience is extensive, spanning four concepts and 25 years. He has been a multi-unit operator, a developer and a franchisee. Ron and I have both moderated round tables at the IFA National Convention and the WFC.

One honor she received was as the Hi Noon Business & Professional Women’s Club “Working Mother of the Year”. In her present position as Director of Corporate Culture for the Tilted Kilt corporate headquarters she oversees the annual convention planning, coordination of conferences and conventions attended by corporate staff, staff team building, costume development and wrangles her husband, Ron’s schedule.

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

I feel our involvement with all of the above organizations has heightened positive awareness of franchising because each recognition puts us in contact with people who may not truly understand the franchise model and many times they want to talk about the Tilted Kilt, our business model and our success. We have had several restaurateurs come to us for advice about franchising their business and we are happy to sit down with them and share our experience. We especially have had lots of exposure because of Ron’s appearance on Undercover Boss (it continues to rerun all over the world).

My husband Ron was the General for this Tilted Kilt journey. I have been with him all the way, but there would be no Tilted Kilt Franchise without the Vision, Guts, Tenacity, Creativity, Leadership, Intelligence and Integrity that he possesses. (and, he’s a bit of a gambler too). The Tilted Kilt brand is fueled by his commitment to The Code of the Clan Tilted Kilt by which he expects every person at every level of the organization to operate. The code embodies the values of pride, integrity, respect, strong work ethic and fun. Ron believes in building customer loyalty through exceptional service and commitment to family and community

Questionnaire Response No. 5 Detail your history of community involvement.

My wife, Karen, and I founded the Ms. Molly Foundation in 1996 after discovering that many of our Molly Maid franchisee employees were calling in sick as a result of being abused by their husbands or boyfriends. We decided to identify a cause that franchisees, employees, customers and home office staff could all support.

We founded Ms. Molly Foundation (501(c) 3 non-profit charity) in 1996. The Foundation funds domestic violence shelters across the country and works to eliminate domestic violence through public education and awareness. Molly Maid owners are encouraged to show their community support raising funds, collecting personal care items and by offering cleaning services to their local shelter. An annual drive is held each October during Domestic Violence Month with over $1.5 million raised to date for 140 local shelters across the United States. 100% of the proceeds flow to local domestic violence shelters.

Since 2009, Mr. Handyman International's franchise owners have donated nearly 3,000 hours of repair, maintenance and improvement work to community organizations or members on the National Day of Service & Remembrance. Each September 11, many of our technicians, franchisees and Home Office team members spend the day at fire stations, military veteran's homes, domestic violence shelters and other local agencies in need of our assistance.

David McKinnon—Service Brands International

Questionnaire Response No. 6 Demonstrate how this has transcended commercial benefit and heightened the positive awareness of franchising.

There is a defining difference between Service Brands International and so many other franchisors due to our culture of caring about our Franchisees and stated commitment to community service.

Our current three brands carry a fabulous family spirit that is contagious throughout the network. Franchisees recognize and respond to the culture of our business by being generous with each other and with their communities at large. When Super Storm Sandy hit, at a franchisee's suggestion, we raised over $30,000 to subsidize the paychecks of unemployed Home Service Professionals and

Technicians. Words whisper; actions shout! The family spirit within our brands is incredible.

Molly Maid is committed to erase domestic violence through the Ms. Molly Foundation. Many prospective franchisees choose Molly Maid over other franchise opportunities because of that commitment. Home office encouragement of owners to be a part of the community where they live and do business is actually a selling point for our brand.

Each year on the National Day of Service (the day before 9/11) our Mr. Handyman franchisees are encouraged to complete meaningful projects. In 2012, for example, many franchisees aimed their service at fire department facilities.

Questionnaire Response No. 7 Provide details on any pertinent legal actions that concern franchise systems with which you have been affiliated.

Our relationship with all our brand franchisees is very positive. I know that our franchisees would be proud of the fact that I am being considered for this award. I have had the opportunity to observe him as he eagerly volunteers his time to teach the soldiers of the Warrior Transition Battalion (Wounded Warriors) at Ft. Benning, GA., about franchising. Greg explains the advantages and disadvantages of operating a franchised business versus going it alone when starting up a business. He is unbiased, never advocating one system over another, as he describes the franchising world to soldiers transitioning to the private sector. He truly believes that franchising is the best way to go for our military heroes.”

We just opened our 40th store in eight years and 10 months. Greg has been with us each step of the way. He helped me believe that I could achieve success and financial security in franchising. “I had the opportunity to work directly with Greg as a Regional Director – Franchising for Aaron’s. Thanks to my 10 years working for Greg, I am today VP, Director of Franchise Sales for Buddy’s Home Furnishing. This would not be possible without the sales, management and people skills I learned from Greg. He has been an important role model in shaping my professional career. I will forever be grateful.” Ben Green, VP, Director of Franchise Sales, Buddy’s Home Furnishings Questionnaire Response No. 9 Are there legal, financial or other issues or situations that your selection as the recipient of an IFA award might raise which have the potential to attract negative publicity or attention for the association and/or the franchising industry?
