This Week’s Top Headline THE TAMING OF THE DREW: In 14 combined appearances with Single-A Potomac and Single-A Hagerstown, RHP Drew Storen has 33 strikeouts and 0 walks in 19.0 innings…Storen, Washington’s first-round pick (10th overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, has fanned 22 and allowed just one hit over 11.0 scoreless innings in his last 8 games between Potomac and Hagerstown…prior to joining the P-Nats on July 19, the Stanford University product struck out 26 and did not walk a batter in 14.2 innings (11 games) with the Suns. Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs International League North Division 53-48, 2nd Place, 3.5 Games Back CURIOUS JORGE: OF Jorge Padilla, a 2009 IL All-Star selection, leads full-season minor leaguers with a .363 batting average…Padilla has hit safely in 32 of his last 35 games, going 51-for-134 (.381) with 20 runs scored during the tear…his .423 on-base percentage ranks 2nd in the IL…he has reached base safely via hit, walk or HBP 132 times in 88 games (1.5 times per contest).     MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. Woensdag is tijdens het toernooi voor velen een bijzondere dag. ‘s Avonds staat er bijna altijd een wedstrijd op het programma tussen twee ploegen die vantevoren worden gezien als titelkandidaat. Of gewoon een avond met een belangrijke wedstrijd, zoals in het verleden bijvoorbeeld het duel tussen Nederland en de Sullivans. Maar de woensdag is voor veel medewerkers ook op een andere manier bijzonder. Elk toernooi zijn er ruim honderd vrijwilligers van ‘s morgens vroeg tot ‘s avonds laat in de weer om alles op en rond het veld goed te laten verlopen. Woensdag is het toernooi halverwege en dan slaat bij velen meestal even een moment van vermoeidheid toe. Gelukkig duurt dat nooit lang, want als de middagwedstijd eenmaal is gespeeld is iedereen weer fris en fruitig. Helemaal klaar voor de volgende vijf dagen van het toernooi.
