WEEK 2 (NOV. 20-24, 2020) 2 wcha.com WCHA TO CELEBRATE 70 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE IN 2020-21 #WEAREWCHA The Men’s League of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association will celebrate seven decades of history this season the league announced Nov. 9.

Beginning in the December, the league will announce a series of All-Decade Teams and a Coach and Player of the Decade for the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. All current and former WCHA member institutions were asked to submit nominees for consideration and nearly 200 current and former players and coaches were nominated. The honorees will be selected by a panel of current and former WCHA staff and media members who have covered the league.

“As the oldest college hockey league in the NCAA, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association has established A Tradition of Excellence since its founding in 1951,” WCHA Men’s League Commissioner Bill Robertson said. “Our alumni include some of the greatest players in intercollegiate and professional hockey and we are excited to recognize their excellence during the years they competed in the WCHA.”

Johnson Hits the Century Mark: Bowling Green's Max Johnson became the 74th player in program history to reach 100 career points in the Falcons' season opener with Adrian on Nov. 13. Johnson is the third Falcon in the past two seasons to reach the mark, joining current teammate Brandon Kruse and 2019-20 senior Alec Rauhauser who both surpassed the century mark last season. By joining Kruse in the Century Club, Bowling Green is now the only team in the NCAA with two active 100 point scorers on its roster. There are just four active players in Division I college hockey with at least 100 career points entering this weekend.

Bowling Green Shares Top Spot Among Returning Leaders: Bowling Green and Michigan Tech rank among the top eight teams in terms of returning goal scorers entering the 2020-21 season. BGSU's 96 returning goals on this season's roster ties for the top spot in the NCAA with North Dakota. Michigan Tech's 86 returning goals ranks No. 5. The WCHA joins the NCHC as the only two leagues with multiple teams in the top 8.

Brian Halonen was named the MVP of Winter Carnival after having two goals and two assists on the weekend. • In other non-conference play, the Huskies will play Northern Michigan four times, host Minnesota State, and travel to Bemidji State before WCHA play begins in January. • Tech has seven freshmen on the roster. The class consists of goaltender Cayden Bailey, defensemen Jed Pietila and Brett Thorne, and forwards Carson Bantle, Arvid Caderoth, Nick Nardella, and Blais Richartz. • Mark Sinclair transferred to Michigan Tech from Alabama Huntsville in the offseason. He ranked second in the WCHA with 971 saves in 2019-20. He made 40 saves in seven games last season with a career-high 54 save performance against Bowling Green (Feb. 28). Sinclair was twice named WCHA Goaltender of the Week during the 2018-19 season. • Michigan Tech fi nished the 2019-20 season with a 21-15-3 overall record, winning 20 games for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
